Grape Germaine, a study in abstract cocktails
submitted almost 9 years ago by HocusKrokusFrugivore

My final piece working with the Flavor Monks Gin line this year, but with many more expected after new years is over!

I started with a grape base using both INW Grapes and FLV Grape. INW has a slightly candied finish, where FLV comes closer to grape juice. I wanted both of those qualities to show, so we started at equal parts both at 2.5% allows them both to shine without overpowering the other, creating a sort of muddled grapes type of sensation. Earlier versions I went lower and higher with the other but they just balance better at even ratios.

FLV Elderflower, if you've ever had a cocktail with St Germaine in it, you'll know this flavor straight away. A niche floral for most, but it's ideal for these sort of bright, herbal gin flavors. Brightly floral with a distinct elderflower flavor that you can't miss. A bit potent fresh, but just right after 2-3 days steep.

FM OMGin: Hands down my favorite gin from their line. It's simply super versatile. At 3% it stands out just enough to cut through some of the thicker sweet notes in the grape base and support those light floral notes in the FLV Elderflower. For those unfamiliar with Flavor Monks Gin line I highly recommend FM OMGin. It's a very bright, clean gin flavor that tastes of fresh juniper berries, and absolutely no awkward pine/cheap shitty fin flavors. It's an excellently realized top shelf gin flavor.

Being a fan of sweet cocktails I added 2% Erythritol (5% in VG) in my final recipe, but it's super optional if you're into a more bitter/less sweet cocktail. In closing, here's

Grape Germaine

Ingredient|% :---|---: Elderflower (Flavorah)|0.25 Erythritol 5% (NN)|2 Grape (Flavorah)|2.5 Grapes (INAWERA)|2.5 OMGin Flavor Monks|3

Flavor total: 10.25%

Remember to rate it at e-liquid-recipes.com!

Edit: If you're in the market for some flavors, like the Flavor Monks line, from the UK Chef's Flavours has excellent International shipping prices. It runs only about 6.50$ USD to order from them to the US.

That exchange rate is kind of awesome right now. Finally pulled the trigger on that entire gin line. I'm interested to give this one a shot.

Wow, looks super interesting and yummy! Hadn't thought about using the Elderflower with Gin. I've only used FA Gin, and while good, I'd definitely be in the market for other Gin flavors if they're really good. How would you compare that gin to FA Gin if you've used it?

Side question: have you used FA Bergamot with Gin?

It's world's smoother than FA Gin. FA Gin is decent, but I get a little sort of piney off flavor sometimes. FM OMGin (and their other gins) are really something else. Ultra smooth, fresh juniper, a dash of bitters. A real deal top shelf gin flavor.

I have an FA Bergamot/FM OMGin with FA Jasmine and FLV Lemonade steeping but it isn't ready yet.

My original versions just had INW Grapes in it, and it was really still very good. The FLV made a nice addition to it, but it's just as well without.
