Hey guys, so I've been vaping and making my own e-juice for a while now. Lately, I've become increasingly dissatisfied with sub-ohm vaping as I've come to enjoy the buzz I get off the Juul (not to mention how stealthy it is not having to blow clouds around when I'm out).
I've become interested in Nude Nicotine's Nicotine Salt formulas (Smooth, Signature, Hit). Has anyone had experience with using this in their DIY mixes?
I know, backwards thinking, as everyone seems to want more power, more clouds, lower resistance...but I was thinking that, perhaps if I get a mouth-to-lung tank and turn the wattage down, and mix a high nicotine juice, it will give a satisfying hit and buzz similar to the Juul. Any thoughts or experiences? This would save a whole lot of money.
I have used it a bunch, mainly in my Juul and Icare. I have a recipe in the December thread, but unfortunately my battery is about till die. I'll jump back on here in the AM.
It'd be great to reference that :) thanks a bunch!
I'll say, it all depends on what you're doing which determines what version to get. If you're refilling the Juul, the VG base is a necessity. My Juul refills work best at 80vg/20pg or above. Now, I find NN's Smooth @55-59mg/ml to fall a bit shy of the Juul with respect to that "bite" you get. NN's Hit better replicated that experience for me, however since it's only available in PG, it ruins the "snack crackle pop" experience of the drag, mainly because thinner liquids cause the temp control on the Juul to kick in much quicker.
When refilling your pods, fill them as full as possible, as that initial vacuum needs to form to produce a satisfying drag throughout. I even put the smallest amount of Petroleum Jelly around the black rubber plug, just so it seals that much better.
With respect to my December Mint recipe....ehh, scratch that. I just realized this week that I'd never had a "new" pack of pods, only ones that have sat in a gas station since early 2015.
At the advice of others, I went ahead and tested some FW DoubleMint. Here's my new recipe. *FW DoubleMint --- 7%
*INW Mix Mint --- 1%
*INW Eucalyptus w/ Mint --- .25%
All this with NN Smooth @ 50mg/ml, and up to another 10mg/ml of NN Hit, although that does thin it out some. A small drop of Everclear can help to give more "bite" as well.
Hope this helps.
Even Smooth at that level of nic doesn't replicate that "bite," as you say, from the Juul? Dang, thanks for the input.
Yeah, high VG is an absolute necessity for refilling the pods. However, VG-base nicotine concentrations are so cumbersome to work with.
Thanks so much for the recipe! Weird, you just read my mind. A good mint recipe is what I was looking for :)
So you would use different concentrations of nicotine? That's something I never thought about- that's interesting! I'll probably take your advice here and try for myself! Thanks a bunch.
I would think this would work. I use the signature in 6mg max VG liquids and I'm very satisfied with the quality of the nicotine. It feels like I'm vaping 3mg without going through as much as I would be if it was. I still have nicotine from a previous vendor in the freezer but can't see myself going back to it.
I find the signature to be a bit harsh at 30mg in my Icare, so I would probably use smooth if I were going higher mg than that, but maybe in a juul with the true MTL (Icare is more restricted lung hit) the signature or hit would be fine at 59 mg. I really like the nic salts a lot though, would recommend.
Thanks for your input! I was thinking of getting smooth. The juul isn't necessarily harsh at all- there's some element to it that doesn't get that odd peppery or stinging sensation that freebase nicotine gives at higher %s. Not to mention that I feel it immediately - not sure if it's attributed to nicotine salts being used or just the fact that the e-juice used is 59mg/mL nicotine..hmm.
Yes!! Finally someone like-minded! As the days pass since I started i feel more alone in sticking to the way I vape. Volume vaping just isn't the same. YES you can easily achieve better flavor the majority of the time but I certainly have been able to get some damn good flavor with my go-to base. I definitely go through so much less juice than the average vaper too so that's a plus. I vape low wattage high mg with a tight MTL draw, but with high end drippers and tanks that support that style of vaping. I haven't messed around with nic salts at all, but I typically mix 40/60 (PG/VG) @ 12mg. I can't get away from it. I like to mimic the act and experience of smoking and tend to feel like you when it comes to clouds and whatnot. I really should test my juices at 3mg to really get that flavor to come through and better adjust my mixes but I'm usually a bit too lazy for that haha. Any questions let me know!!
Don't see any reason why it wouldn't
I'm not sure if these nicotine salt formulas by NN would give a similar feeling to the Juul. The high nic e-juice I've made with freebase nicotine doesn't have that cleaner hit...not sure how to describe it. Not necessarily peppery, but kinda stings, I don't know 😕
Salts will have more of a throat hit but will mute flavor imo. But only one way to find out.
You're not the only one that mentioned the flavor being muted. Would you say all 3 variants - Smooth/Signature/Hit - mute flavor?
I'm thinking it won't be much of a problem if I use them to make high nic e-juice for MTL setups, since I'm not flavor-chasing in that endeavor.
Recently ordered a juul to try and also the NN "hit" at 100mg. I have an iStick Pico that I use currently for MTL hits, and I was wondering if it's really worth refilling Juul pods if I can replicate a similar experience with salt-based juice on the Pico. I'm assuming running it with a tank close to closed in airflow, I'd have to lower wattage and use a higher nic amount. Let's say, based on what everyone else is saying here, to mix above 24mg and probably fire closer to 15-20 watts instead of what I currently use with freebase which is 30 watts. Mostly worried if I don't change my setup on the Pico I'll take a vape and instantly get nic sick.. heh
I'm bummed the NN Hit won't work in the Juul due to it being PG, I don't feel like ordering another bottle of Smooth right away -_-
Yeah, I think it's worth giving each of your pods one refill. I'm in your situation- I have PG-based nicotine (but it's not like I'm ever going to work with VG-based nicotine...that's a hassle and a half) at 100mg/mL strength.
At max VG and without having issues with leaking, I was able to make juice at 18mg strength. It doesn't match the original strength of the juices you get prefilled in the pods, but it's worth it to refill them each once to cut some costs down. Try it with a recipe that doesn't use a lot of % for flavorings so you can make the VG as high as possible :)
Complex recipes can't be appreciated through the juul, so just stick with simple stuff. I tried using Wayne's 'Sicle recipe for juul refills...can't appreciate all the notes!
