All I'm looking for in e-juices are realistic, fruity flavors, so I ordered a bunch of MF flavors after trying them and being completely blown away. I sold most of my old TFA, FA and FLV bottles except for some that I know how to use.
Now they'll last me a long time since I just vape 3-4 ml/day, so I'll be good for a while since I bought 10 bottles. So that got me thinking.. should I store them in the fridge? Or do they stay steady being stored in a dark, room temperatured place?
And how important is it to dilute them? Does it affect the quality in any way? I remember reading that they could last longer by diluting them.
How well do they mix? As an example, would Dark Chocolate and Wild Raspberry (or White Cherry) blend well so that both flavors can be tasted individually or could it end up being a diffuse mix?
Has anyone tried to use a magnetic stirrer with MF? Some flavors can be sort of "erased" when stirring for too long, but some really need some stirring to pop.
Happy holidays everbody!
As a new mixer and a long time customer of opensourcevapor I ordered some Medicine Flower flavors too. I wanted to find the answers to the same questions you asked and there is surprisingly, not much info on MF flavors. So I'll be monitoring this thread closely and meanwhile here is what I found so far:
Since the flavors you bought from MF are pure flavors, not like Cap or TFA which are diluted in PG. So people make their own dilutions either 5:1 or 10:1. Whether it is a VG dilution or PG, it's up to you.
According to abdada, once you open the bottle, flavors tend to lose potency as time goes by. So it is best to dilute the whole bottle straight away.
Expect long steep times. Most MF flavors take at least a month to fully develop.
Opensourcevapor used to use exclusively MF flavors before they shut down. They were the reason I got my hands on MF flavors, you can check out some of their recipes and try replicating them. The recipes you can find on eliquidrecipes are the exact recipes, the owner Joshua made the recipes public since he started selling (hence the opensource part).
These were the answers I could find and as for your other questions, hope someone can answer as I'm curious myself too.
Thank you very much man! I took a look at the recipes on ELR, and pretty much every single of them has stevia in them. Is that vital for an MF-recipe? Does MF appear too strong/sour in some cases, and couldn't that be fixed by using less flavor or adding some extra vanilla?
To be honest I don't know. I tried 4 flavors from MF; Vanilla, Blueberry, Strawberry and Lemon and everything except Lemon (well, duh) is super smooth.
I think the stevia addition has more to do with that extra sweetner=commercial taste thing. I did a batch of their Blueberry Cream recipe with 6mg nic and with only a few drops of stevia, it was not harsh even with the fact that I dropped to 3mg since I mixed that batch 1-1,5 month ago.
I still have the original opensource liquids with unopened bottles, I can't vape them anymore because they are way too sweet for me since I started DIY'ing. The only difficulty is determining the stevia percentage. Joshua used to use 120mg/ml stevia concentrate according to a post I found on reddit. So for example I use Now Foods Better Stevia Glycerite formula and asked Now foods about the amount of stevia in their formula. They said Glycerite formula contained %24 stevia. So it should be 240mg stevia per ml (if my assumptions are correct). Therefore a %2 stevia entry in opensource recipe would be %1 with Now Foods Glycerite formula.
The most important thing I can suggest to you is make your own dilutions right away so you don't have to wait that 1 month steeping time every time you want to change something with your recipe. After your dilutions are steeped, you can just mix and tweak as you go like you did with TFA or CAP.
Crap, I forgot to order the vanilla. I mainly use TFA VBIC, is that an OK substitute? And as for the stevia, I'll skip that then! Thank you very much for the solid advice, I'll dilute them right away as I get them. I'm thinking of diluting them in a 30VG/70 mix, as I only use premixed base apart from nicotine. Is that a good idea?
A little Reb A in MF fruits will give them that ripe juicy taste. I use [this] (https://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-630098-nunaturals-nustevia-reb99-1-oz?redirect=1), I mixed it with VG at 120mg/ml per Open Source, but the next bottle I will make 40mg/ml.
I use from 0.1% to 0.25% of the Reb A to ripen the MF fruits, I do not like a sweet vape.
A bottle would last me three lifetimes, but my wife loves it in her coffee. :)
The owner Joshua made the recipes public .
Where are these located , i have searched ELR with no luck .
Thank you
Ping u/abdada and u/NewDrip, you guys seems to know these flavors :)
I believe AB has realized his dream of early retirement, part of which meant getting off social media and internet. I hope I'm wrong, but he hasn't been seen around these parts for many moons.
I have heard from several sources that Medicine Flowers flavoring does dissipate in potency over time. So I agree with the other poster who recommended diluting them. (couldn't hurt and typically makes measuring simpler) As far as blending different flavors together, I find they work ok together. I honestly don't find them as easy to work well as other flavors but it could be merely because I haven't worked with them as long as I have the other brands. (such as TFA, etc) Also, OpenSourceVapor's recipes were awesome. I am really sad to hear that they are closing up shop. They were by far my favorite non PG company.
