Got an email today saying their shipping API was messed up and giving incorrect shipping rates. So hopefully this will address the shipping cost issues. Actual email:
Good evening everyone! We know very well that the shipping update came as a big shock to everyone. We have been working very hard on coming up with solutions. Yesterday when we launched our new software the UPS API was not working properly and was showing rates that were very very over priced. We have now fixed that and we believe there is a HUGE difference.
We are doing everything we can to continue improving these rates. We are listening to everyones feedback and making every effort we can to get back on track.

Didn't they give an explanation for the new rates though? That's awesome that they are fixed but if that was the issue I don't understand why they had a detailed reason for the prices
yesterday if you ordered one of the tfa/cap flavors or 60mg+ nic the only shipping option they had was $27. now i think it's fixed to $9.
as an aside, ECX is now also only shipping those flavors and 60mg+ nic UPS ground also.
$27 is a typical minimum for HAZMAT shipping. Like, if you're shipping a pound of gunpowder it adds $20 onto a normal ground shipping charge. (It nearly doubles the cost of mail order gunpowder, most people order at least 4-8 pounds at a time 'cause it doesn't make much of a difference in shipping cost and you can amortize it over multiple pounds.)
The flavors with alcohol might need to be shipped ground with an ORM-D label, like perfumes, rather than HAZMAT, like explosives.
Shit's complicated and I can't blame them for fuckups at this point in time.
