How much Menthol (or how many drops) should I add to some of my recipes for an average/normal menthol cooling effect?

Hello! I have several mint, fruit, etc recipes that are complete/final, but I've recently decided I'd like to add a little menthol to some of them.

I recently tried a recipe I found that had 1 drop per 15ml, and I could only barely taste the menthol - it didn't really have a cooling effect at all.

So I was wondering, how much Menthol (or how many drops or %) should I add to some of my recipes? What is a standard or normal amount you'd add for an average menthol cooling effect?

Would it be 2-3 drops per 15ml? 1-3%? etc.

The type of menthol I have is: Wizard Labs "Menthol Liquid 10% PG Solution".

I thought asking here might save me from having to do a bunch of test recipes again.

0.5%: This will just cool your juice off slightly. You'll be able to tell its there, but it won't be overpowering.
1%: It will be much more present at this level. Depending on the strength of your menthol flavor, you might start masking other flavors at this level.
3%: You won't be able to taste any other flavorings you use, so don't bother using them.
10%: This will do to your sinuses what an undercooked taco bell burrito does to your bunghole.

Also if you are strictly going for a cooling effect and not necessarily looking for the menthol flavor try koolada

I rarely use menthol (FA Arctic Winter), but right now I'm really digging 1.5% FA Peppermint and 0.5% FA Menthol. Reminds me of those soft Peppermint candies that melt in your mouth. Pleasantly cool and slightly sweet, a nice, non-gunking palate refresher IMO.

Out of interest, have you tried pairing Peppermint with anything else?

I may have a few recipes you're interested in, but all of my flavors are TFA. Stuff like peppermint+spearmint+wintergreen, just peppermint, peppermint+sweet cream, maybe some others. These are some of the recipes I may add a bit of menthol to.

I bought FA Menthol on a lark, Peppermint for the HeadInClouds Thin Mints recipe, but since I started sub-ohm dripping I can't stand that recipe anymore.

I've been thinking about a slightly minty lemonade, maybe, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I use those exact flavors but add 2%TFA French Vanilla and it makes an awesome creamy mint juice

Try adding some Fuji and you'll be pretty close to a good xmas candy cane juice.

hmmm 10% isnt really alot of menthol. the premix i make is 33% (20ml of PG and the rest is crystals in a 30ml bottle) and tbh i never mix it into any recipes. i make 10ml bottles at a time of menthol ejuice with 15% of the solution (1.5 ml to 8.5 PG/VG) and this is a decent strength menthol ejuice ive found. Then ill add a lil bit to my tank as i see fit.. right now in my one setup i have my favorite tobacco flavor, ill fill the tank up then squirt just a little bit of the menthol in just to get that cooling kick from it. i think the average recipe that requires menthol might be refering to a 1/3 solution. I think the TFA menthol is actually just that. you might want to increase the "1drop/15ml" by 3 then add an extra drop for good luck ;)

edit - i was incorrect... here is the description for TFA menthol.. they actually use 66% menthol 33% PG... so you might actually need 6 drops/15ml to have the correct ratio for the recipe...

Water soluble.

Menthol flavoring in Propylene Glycol.

If you'd prefer to work with menthol crystals, you can duplicate our menthol blend by the ratio:

For 1000 grams 660 grams menthol crystals 340 grams PG

So, about 1 third PG and two thirds Menthol, by weight.

Ingredients: Menthol, Propylene Glycol.

Personally, I like 1 drop per 10ml. When I add 2 drops per 10ml, I start to get that freeze effect, which I don't like.

Last batch I made it did 1 drop per 10ml and it was to Strong for me. And all I could taste was menthol. I have been mixing a drop of this mix in with some other flavors and having decent success.
