I've made a couple recipes with flavorah flavors, with their Bourbon, Red Burley and honey. After a week of steeping, the recipe was fantastic, but now, 3 weeks later, it tastes really dulled out on my RDA. Has anyone else had problems like this with Flavorah flavors? I recall them stating they want everything to be a shake and vape, perhaps that goes at the cost of flavor durability?
Most other flavors I have only get better over time.
Edit: It's not vapors tongue, obviously, I rotate flavors throughout the day, and others taste just fine.
Edit: Small corrective update https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/5hlk5m/small_update_on_dulling_flavorah_flavors/
Most flavorah flavors die over time, most of those that don't die won't mix well with other manufacturers, and then you have the ones that are absolutely putrid. After these three factors, they have about 5 or 10 amazing flavors, and nothing mediocre.
Why do you say they don't mix well with other manufacturers? Just curious since I have about a bajillion bottles of their stuff from back when they sent out those free care packages.
Because they don't mix well with other vendors? I'm not sure exactly what you want to know, besides that they just don't work out when in a multiple vendor recipe.
I'm asking why they don't mix well, as in:
-
Is there something about the flavors that causes others to taste off?
-
Do they impart a particularly bitter aftertaste when mixed because they are/aren't too sweet?
-
Are they too strong or too weak and get overshadowed in multi-vendor recipes?
Etc etc etc
Interesting! I'll reorder everything I have from flavorah in more renown brands :)
I can only speak on their vanilla custard and cream but neither of them have presented any issues for me. This is a recipe from a local line I produced for a couple years. We sold this juice for over a year with no flavor loss issues, the juice was bottled in amber glass though so perhaps that helped keep the flavor in.
- 5% FLV Vanilla custard
- 3% INW pear
- 1.5% FA almond
- 1.5% INW biscuit
- 1% TFA pie crust
I have everything in amber glass as well :-) Perhaps the biscuit and pie crust taste a bit like custard? I can imagine.
I've got the vanilla custard flavour which is one hell of a custard in my opinion better than Capella's. Now, what you are saying just reminded me the last time I used it. I basically gave up on it because it tasted nothing (I could smell it a tiny bit though). This happened when my 10ml bottle sat there for 6 months in total darkness.
That sucks. Their Vanilla custard is my favorite custard :(
FLV has been far less than impressive to me. Their cost:concentration ratio is rather high for the most part, and rather absurd if I must say. They do have a few diamonds in the rough, but I'd rather boycott their products due to their pricing model.
That being said, I do think the following flavors are rather worth it, feel free to comment or add to the list, as I haven't tried them all due to numerous disappointments, and don't plan on buying many more:
-
Rich Cinnamon - the strongest and most sought after cinnamon on the market. A 15mL for $13 will last you a lifetime.
-
Butterscotch - None of that creamy fufu stuff. A straight and rather boozy butterscotch that stands out rather than blending in.
-
Blueberry Muffin - An intricate balance of blueberry and muffin. Something you probably won't achieve by mixing infinite amounts of other flavors to mimic it.
-
Boysenberry - Reminiscent of the blueberry in their blueberry muffin, but without the muffin. Very unique and rather tasty. I have yet to find a flavor that can take its place.
Strange, I didn't much care for the boysenberry, though I don't think I was using it well; it also seemed a little harsh. Do you have a good recipe you can link using the FLV Boysenberry?
I don't have a digital recipe ATM, (sorry) but I've had good results around 2-3%. It is very reminiscent of the fruit in Blueberry Muffin IMO, without the muffin of course. Honestly, I'm far more in love with FA Bilberry, but I know some people don't care much for that one. FLV Boysenberry is definitely a unique flavor, and it seems to go well with most of your favorite creams.
Could be I wasn't going high enough with it, I don't recall getting much flavor out of it. It also seemed a bit harsh which I think was the most offputting thing about it. I might actually have one still on my steep shelf that has been there since probably august that I'll try again tonight. TY for the info!
Flavorah's peach is the gospel.
I'm just picking up steam on their raspberry flavour too.
I don't have any experience/interest in the flavours you're having trouble with (maybe honey is intriguing to me), I will keep this in mind and bring it to the DIY circles I'm involved in and see if they have similar problems! Flavorah's concentrates are so god damned expensive.. they should never fade!
Just dripped a vanilla custard from 11-11 @ 5% too. No custard, tastes like pure vanilla.
Time to dig up an old FLV tester and see if it faded.. If this is true for all their flavs that would be saddening cuz I love some of their stuff.
I use a lot of flavorah and I haven't necessarily noticed any dulling out over time (more than expected). This could also be because I normally go through testers pretty quick and my big rotations that use them is mostly like creams or very pronounced flavors like melon or brighter earth notes.
