TFA Pineapple
submitted almost 9 years ago by wafflepriest1

Setup: Velocity mini clone with dual Claptons (26/36); .30 ohms @ 65 watts; full wicking.

Testing: TFA Pineapple @ 6.6%; Aged: No steep - 2 weeks.

Flavor Descriptions: At first this flavor tastes like a fresh, ripe, and juicy pineapple that evens gives off a slightly 'wet' feeling similar to INW Cactus. The only profile missing is that slight tang a pineapple has, otherwise it is fairly realistic. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on what you're going for I guess) this is not the profile that sticks around. After an overnight steep it changes into a pineapple juice, like someone took that realistic pineapple and squeezed the juice out of it till all that was left of it was the lifeless, shriveled husk of possibility and a glass of pineapple juice. After a further steep it loses more of its bright and juicy aspects and fades into a sweet candied pineapple, either a literal pineapple candy or a dry pineapple covered in some sugar; it is NOT a particularly bright, juicy, tangy/sharp, realistic pineapple.

Off-flavors: None at around 6%, I could imagine some weird sharp or almost sickly sweet if its pushed too high though. Edit: As many people have mentioned in the comments, some get an almost 'battery-acid' like note if used at too high a percent. This battery acid note can also make the vape very harsh.

Throat hit: None, 0/10 - it is smooth and has a similar 'wet' effect as INW Cactus.

Uses: Despite my ragging on it, I do think this flavor is usable both as a standalone and in a mix. As a standalone it can be used for a sweet, almost candy pineapple flavor and it can used in fruit recipes to add in brightness or make it juicier. Great for giving a slight tropical note to fruit mixes as well.

Pairings: Fruits is obvious, I think it might also work with creams. Can't really see it with any bakeries or custards though.

Closing Thoughts: Even though I ragged on this flavor for the way it changes from realistic to candied I actually really like it. It can help lift certain fruit notes up or add in some natural sweetness (that isn't a strawberry) into a mix, and just tastes pretty damn good in general. Overall I would give it a 7/10. Its been a while since I've done one of these, so please let me know if there's anything I can do differently for future reviews!

Bonus Recipe: So I'm gonna be a jackass and plug my own recipe, Pearadise.

Ingredient | % :--| --: TPA Pineapple | 3 TPA Pear | 6 TPA Dragonfruit | 4 TPA Coconut Extra | 0.5

Really hope I didn't fuck up the table, and if you mix it up I hope you enjoy.

I think it's a bully that will easily overpower other flavors you mix with it (though I'm sure 6% TFA Pear stands up to it well) and hide them behind a giant pineapple lollipop dipped in battery acid.

> Throat hit: None, 0/10

I envy your throat. I find it to be a very useful flavor in moderation, but too much becomes harsh as hell for me.

Team battery acid here as well.

Yeah, I saw that 6.6% and went "Oh gods, I hope he's ok!"

hashtag dead. I'm jealous, it's not a bad flavor, just straight acid on the palate for me though.

Yea, I mix about .5% pineapple and its still the leading note.

Thanks for the additional info - always helpful to have different people's perspectives, especially a more experienced mixer such as yourself. As far as the throat hit goes, I feel so bad that this is harsh for you. I haven't tried it at higher percentages but all I get at 6% or less is a moist/wet vape, no traces of harshness.

Of course. I love being lazy and throwing my $0.02 on flavor reviews while the reviewers do all the hard work. How are you on flavors like TFA Swedish Gummy, TFA Peach Juicy, and FA Passionfruit, throat hit-wise? Those seem to be the harshest to me.

I definitely get a throat hit from Swedish gummy as well. I've only ever used it at 1-2% and even then it's a bit harsh. Not unusable for me, however.

I have not yet tried those three flavorings, although TFA Peach Juicy is on my 'eventually' order list. Just haven't had a reason to order those three yet. I just put a reminder in my mixing notebook to let you know how harsh it is when I get it in though, for science and shit.

Nice review! I definitely get more of a candy type from this. It's an alright flavor but I feel there are better options out there (INW Pineapple comes to mind.)

I will say it works really well in your recipe. It's a very refreshing vape. I find the pineapple to be more forward than the pear and would be curious to see how something like INW or FLV Pineapple would work.

Thanks for sharing Waffle!

Hey Jbird! INW Pineapple, IME, is less than half as strong and more than twice as natural-pineapple-juice tasting as TFA's. It's weird because usually INW flavors quite concentrated. That one is very weak for INW. And yet it costs the same. Almost makes me feel like I'm getting ripped off when I buy it, and yet I can't not buy it, because it's so yummy. I have not tried FLV's, how is that one?

/u/Wafflepriest1 was I was too busy reacting to your review earlier to notice who wrote it... Hi! And, it's nice to see you doing flavor reviews now. Thank you!

INW Pineapple is definitely one their weaker flavors and I kind of feel the same.

FLV remind me of canned pineapple juice. It's really good but you'll need like 3% for that one too

Hey /u/ID10-T! I already responded to your reaction, but I just wanted to say I agree on INW Pineapple - much more realistic and pineapple like. But there was already a flavor review for it and I wanted to write one up (because I have been a lazy fuck and haven't contributed in months lol), so I chose TFA Pineapple to add to the Flavor Reviews - hopefully to prevent people from ordering it with the expectation of a realistic pineapple rather than a candied pineapple.

That is a highly commendable, public-service type thing to do, thank you!

Thanks for reading and for the compliments jbird! I do have INW Pineapple as well and might just have to try it in Pearadise with both you and /u/ID10-T bringing it up.

Hope to see you in the BB chat tonight!

If my ankle bitin curtain climbin nose minin little fuck trophies will let me, I'll be there. Birth control, man, use it.

I'd love to try a version of Pearadise with all of the TFA flavors replaced with their INW counterparts (some % changes would definitely be required). Call it "Polish Pearadise."

I found INW Pineapple rather earthy, but it seems to make a nice pairing with CAP Golden Pineapple. I typically enjoy CAP 3:1 INW

Thanks waffles, I like it when others perceive taste the same as I do, and when I first read 6.6%, I thought holy shite.

I find I can only use this at a max of 3.5% as the main note, it's so strong and bold (and I have half dead taste buds). I get the same changes as you.

I have never had cloudiness.

My very first DIY mix, and the only 1 that was not vapeable was 5% Pineapple and 5% Guava, both TFA. Threw that baby out, bottle and all. LOL

That was the guava haha.

I get massive throat hit at even 3%. I use it regularly at 4% and use EM to calm it down also makes it really juicy.

Is it just that my 2 bottles are bad or this flavor always turn foggy in my mixes?...

2 points

by wafflepriest1almost 9 years ago

I have not experienced this personally, but I'm pretty sure others have claimed this happened to them as well. If I remember right it was explained that the flavorings aren't actually bad, its just that the aromas used to create this flavor tend to cause the cloudiness. I could totally be wrong on this though, hope someone else can chime in.

in my experience with it, it always seemed to make my mixes cloudy. It's a (plastic) tank cracker as well.

And a syringe-melter, for anyone who is still mixing with syringes.

Finally, I can make my 'licking a 9V battery flavor'!

Jk, great review as always :)

You know how some people really love flavors that take them back to their childhood? Well some people also put batteries into their mouth when they were children, and this flavoring was made to recreate that experience. (I mean I don't get this acid note, but apparently its semi-common)

Ya, I'm not gonna confirm that I was one of those kids that licked a 9V battery at least once in my childhood, but I'm also not gonna deny that if I licked one now it would give me a warm sense of nostalgia and forgotten comfort ;)

I prefer INW Pineapple over TFA all day every day. It's one of the few INW flavors that can handle going to to 5-6% and not shit the bed, it's totally dynamic and changes flavor profiles throughout the range.

I've worked on a clone of Adirondack - Cayuga off and on for a year or so and while I'm 99% sure they use TFA Pineapple I prefer my version which uses INW.

2 points

by wafflepriest1almost 9 years ago

Yup, no disagreement there. TFA Pineapple has its place but INW is a better go to pineapple in almost every way.

After reading reviews on TFA pineapple, and seeing where some have the same issue I had with it being cloudy and having a terrible after taste, yet others did not, and unable to find a reason why, I called TFA to find out.

I was told that this particular flavor does not blend well with VG. The horrible after taste is because the flavor molecules are separated unevenly which causes you to taste them separately. This also causes the cloudiness.

Just thought I would share what I was told incase others have this issue. I was close to throwing it in the trash because i thought it was bad.
