Hello! This is my very first recipe that I've developed and I thought I'd share it with the community. My inspiration was Vapor in a Bottle's Seduction. It's not a clone of it as much as it's my version of a raspberry lemon/lime vape. I know there are a lot of ingredients but I experimented with less and couldn't get all the lemon and lime notes I wanted without using a couple of each.
I've spent almost 6 weeks developing this recipe. It's not perfect but I believe it's good enough to share. First I worked on the lemon/lime base and then moved on to adding the berries once I was really happy with the base.
This is my first recipe and first recipe post, so please go easy on me. I'd like to thank this sub for helping me with my initial first stupid questions and providing such a wealth of information and help to me as a new mixer.
Berry Manilime
2% Juicy Lemon (CAP)
1% Key Lime (TPA)
2% Lemon (INAWERA)
1% Lemon Sicily (FA)
4% Lime Tahity (Cold Pressed) (FA)
1% Raspberry (Sweet) (TPA)
2% Raspberry Concentrate (INAWERA)
2% Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA)
.5% Cactus (INAWERA)
1% Marshmallow (TPA)
This recipe really needs to steep for 7-10 days and air out a little bit a couple times over that steep. That INW Lemon is a beast to tame.
CAP Juicy Lemon - This lemon is really light tasting and weak. I'm using it here mostly for it's subtle musky rind/oil flavor to bring a layer of zest to the citrus profile.
TPA Key Lime - This flavor is pretty dry and can bring a lot of harshness, but it provides that sweet key lime note I'm looking for.
INW Lemon - This is a strong strong lemon. Unsteeped it can be unbearable and definitely a LOT furniture polishy. If you tone it down a little and use it wisely it can come forward as a nice main lemon in your mix.
Lemon Sicily - I'm using this lemon here because it's really natural, juicy and also has that rind/oil zest note that it brings.
FA Lime Tahity (Cold Pressed) - This lime to me is very natural and acts as the lime base for all the other flavors to build upon.
TPA Raspberry (Sweet) - I'm using this as one of the raspberry notes because it brings a really nice sweet ripe raspberry. However, alone this one can get a little perfumey. It's best when you toss other raspberries or even strawberry in with it.
INW Raspberry Concentrate - This is a great raspberry. I use it to produce the main body of the raspberry and the TPA to give it the perfumey notes it needs.
TPA Strawberry (Ripe) - I couldn't get the sweet raspberry profile that I was really looking for without adding a little bit of this. It rounds out the raspberry with it's sweet ripe "berriness".
TPA Marshmallow - I'm using this to bring a bit of fluffiness, sweetness and to smooth out the mouth feel. All that citrus definitely needs something sweet to round it out and make it pop. I also tried Cotton Candy (ethyl maltol) and FA Hard Candy. The Cotton Candy tended to mute a few of the citrus notes and the Hard Candy made it too much like a Jolly Rancher. I definitely wasn't going for candy here.
INW Cactus - This brings the juiciness that this mix so badly needed. The INW Lemon and the TPA Lime can be a bit dry and harsh and really need something to counteract that. Without this ingredient the mix is just way too dry.
EDIT: One thing I might add is that most people will probably want to add a touch of sweetener to this. I can't stand the taste of sucralose so I don't add any.
EDIT 2: I've taken u/BillHorror and u/thedirtyprojector's advice and tweaked this recipe a bit. I simplified the lime, reduced the raspberry and added a bit more Cactus for juiciness. It's still very berry forward with a great citrus base as I wanted but it's smoother and less complicated.
Cactus (INAWERA) 1%
Juicy Lemon (CAP) 1%
Lemon (INAWERA Flavours">INW) 2%
Lime Tahity (Cold Pressed) (FA) 1%
Marshmallow (TPA) 1%
Raspberry (Sweet) (TPA) 1%
Raspberry Concentrate (INW) 1%
Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA) 2%
Sweetener .5% (optional)
2% INW Raspberry sounds a little over the top... But I have been needing to try a new citrus...
How much would you recommend to get in the mix with all that citrus?
Honestly I just noticed the 4% Lime Cold Press...which also strikes me as crazy high. (I rarely hit 1.5% on the LCP and generally use INW Raspberry in 10ths of a percent, but to be fair, I shake and vape INW Lemon 2% in a couple recipes all the time). Being those are both wicked strong flavors, you might tone them both down a bit. I don't want to suggest anything too specific since I haven't tried the recipe as it is yet. I'm going to try and squeeze the last drops of my Raspberry sweet to mix it your way, and will come back with a better answer lol...
Also if you haven't tried it Inawera Lime is amazing. Highest I use it is 2% in a Strawberry Limeade. And their Lemon Mix at 0.5% on top of INW Lemon at 2% is my favorite Lemon combo.
Edit: good call on the sweetener... Stuff is a juice killer to me. It's why I haven't vaped a commercial liquid in nearly two years... and strawberry ripe and marshmallow have plenty maltol in them to act as a sweetener
I typically use it around 1%. 2% is where it starts to get a little too harsh. If you want to add dimension to the raspberry, adds TFA Raspberry Sweet or Capella Raspberry at 2%.
As for your citrus, I would drop TFA Keylime. Decrease FA Lime Cold Press to 1%. Reduce Juicy Lemon to 1%. Omit FA Lemon Sicily OR INW Lemon, use one or the other. Too many limes and lemons just start overriding and muting each other. Keep it simple.
I tried keeping the citrus base simple and it just wasn't what I wanted. I'm going to tweak it a little based on suggestions in a week or so. I'd like to wait and get feedback from those who have mixed and steeped it.
Thank you very much for your suggestions. Constructive criticism is always helpful and truly welcome.
Hahaha...man oh man, that is an awesome name.
Also, I might have to give this a shot once I accumulate the ingredients (also just starting out). Thanks for the recipe!!
This sounds right up my alley. I like lemon/lime mixes :) And I have all the proper ingredients! I will definitely mix this and give it a go. Thanks for posting this and for the notes. They help me as a new mixer :)
Be sure to let me know what you think!
