Hello you wonderful juice heads. I know recreating Placid has been discussed here ad nauseam but I finally have something that is pretty dang close. While I've tried a number of clone recipes, nothing every quite hit it correctly. I was going through older posts recently and came across a joke comment from one of the ADK folks talking about the recipe for Placid. the comment read something like:
*3% FA puppies and kittens
*7% TFA Hugs and kisses
*3% CASAA/SFATA support
*12% Reddit love
*1.5% Ethyl Maltol
While this is funny, I thought what if...WHAT IF this is a hint at the real deal so I figured I'd play around with these percentages. Based on other clone attempts (and my own), I believe that the most probable flavorings are:
*TFA Pear
*TFA Strawberry (possibly Ripe, or some combo)
*TFA Honeysuckle
*TFA Key Lime
*FA Lime Tahity (Distilled)
*EM
Here is where I started doing some experimenting. I had to find out what was 12% and what was 7%. Had to be either Strawberry or Pear. Even though I tried both, at these percentages, I found it closer with 12% Strawberry, 7% Pear. After this was established, I tried three different lime flavorings: FA Lime Tahity Cold Press, FA Lime Tahity Distilled, and TFA Key Lime. After playing around with this, I decided that one thing was for sure: FA Lime Tahity Distilled is absolutely in Placid. It is the only lime that packs that punchy throat hit (especially when freshly mixed). TFA Key Lime has a great taste in the recipe and maybe it is blended with the Tahity Distilled in the real deal, but for me, only using Tahity Distilled made it work well. So, after all of that, I present to you, my closest clone to date: Placid
Placid
*12% TFA Strawberry
*7% TFA Pear
*3% TFA Honeysuckle
*3% FA Lime Tahity Distilled
*1.5% EM
I would love to hear opinions on this mix or you can even tell me I'm batshit crazy for reading nothing into a joke comment, but I truly think this is as close as anything I've tried to recreating the white whale that is Placid.
This looks very close to what I came up with and a lot of people seem to like it. Though I still feel it's not right.

I'll have to try your percentages for sure. Thanks !
This recipe is amazeballs, thanks dude. I first mixed it two weeks ago and and I've been sucking back 30-40 mls a day. Even had to take a tolerance break already. ;) Haven't had the original placid so I can't speak to the authenticity but your recipe is fantastic. I've been tempted to try changing the sweetener to 0.3% TPA Menthol to see if it boosts the sweetness like it seems to in my tobacco mixes.
I'd be curious to know what you think about NW Strawberry - http://www.ecigexpress.com/diy-e-liquid/diy-e-liquid-flavors/north-west-vg-flavors/strawverry-by-north-west-flavors.html
It has a similar burnt smell to LA banana cream that reminds me of Placid.
If you take what ADK says seriously, then Placid contains flavorings from multiple vendors, at least 3-4 iirc. I've used FA Lime Tahity, and while it's good, I don't think it's in Placid. I use Key Lime instead, and it's pretty good. If you want that punchy throat, try upping the honeysuckle to 5%. Best luck to you, Placid has been a great learning experience for me and lots of others on here. As I type this, I have 1liter of my placid clone, and i'm dripping it at 40watts, life is good!
You make an excellent point. I had tried 12% pear, 7% strawberry and there was definitely a throat hit increase but the flavor wasn't as close. I also agree that there could be 3-4 different company's flavorings as ADK has mentioned. There's something about the Tahity Distilled that imparts a bitter/throat hit aspect that seems to be in Placid (imho). Maybe it's more along the lines of Key lime + bitter wizard or sour? I recall finishing a 250 ml bottle of Placid and the last 5 mls were insanely bitter. I want to crack this so badly!
If it tastes close I'm in. I'm vaping it right now and wouldn't have imagined strawberry would be that high, but it might be.
I don't taste any at all. Could be because I'm in the club. :/
TFA Strawberry in high percentages is like a big black hole with some pungeant surroundings to me. I never tried single Strawberry Ripe. Might be an even stronger "green" part?
How long have you been vaping? Just curious, as I was once in the club. For whatever reason, a year into vaping I started to be able to taste tfa strawberry remarkably well. Now literally all I vape is mustards milk. I feel bad for all the people that can't taste it. I know the struggle.
I am vaping for eight months now. There is like a hint of strawberry I can get from TFA but it's like nothing in the end. I played around a bit with Inaweras Shisha Strawberry and I definitely can taste it in a way.
Luckily I'm not in a struggle as I am enjoying a wide selection of other flavours.
I honestly didn't think having such high percentages of strawberry and pear would work but I was amazed at the results. Whenever I vape Placid, everyone around says it smells like strawberry and cotton candy. Based on some other released "premium" juice recipes, I think 20% flavoring is relatively normal. I personally don't usually mix that high, but wouldn't be surprised if this is close for Placid. As a side note, thanks for all your work on www.juicedb.com. You steered me to a great many delicious retail juices!
