Setup: Velocity 2 Clone, Dual 15 wrap 3mm Nifethal 70 coils @.18 ohms. 45W-70w power, 480F temp limit. Full Cotton Wicks.
Testing: FLV Frosting @ 3%, 70/30 VG/PG, Steeped 2 weeks.
Flavor Description: Thick, dense, smooth vanilla frosting. At lower wattages there are butter-cream type frosting notes you'd get on a mid-grade wedding cake. If you crank the wattage it starts to lose some nuance and it gets a even denser canned duncan-hines/pilsbury vanilla frosting, bordering on the mouthfeel you get from the marshmallows out of lucky charms.
Off-flavors: None.
Throat Hit: 1/10, really smooth after a steep.
Uses: The obvious one is frosting on bakeries. Thick mouthfeel would lend itself to use as a thick, sweet vanilla for milkshakes or ice creams. The lucky charms marshmallow texture would work great in cereal mixes, especially the milkier versions.
Pairings: Yellow cake, vanilla cupcake, Nonna's cake, CDS... you get the point. Cereals like CAP Cereal 27, FW Fruity Flakes. Tart citruses and other fruits for flavored frostings. It's a blank slate.
Notes: I was skeptical about this, until I steeped it. Lorann's Cream Cheese Icing is my closest competitor, but this has a much clearer vanilla note and I like the added volume here. It's almost a really good marshmallow flavor. I'm sure how to wax more poetic about it, but it's pretty effective for a sweet, fluffy, vanilla frosting.
Thank you for doing all these wonderful reviews! Sounds like a great option to consider when a vanilla note is desirable vs. using LA CCI when you want a little tangy note instead.
Can you start adding a link to our collection of flavor reviews at the bottom of your future ones? I'm concerned that people might not be aware that valuable resource exists: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/wiki/index/flavor_reviews
awesome, I've been wanting to mess around with this one but haven't gotten around to it yet, so this is some good inspiration! Thank you very much. Also, you're killing it with the flavor notes lately, keep it up =) reviewing just about all the stuff I want to work with hahaha.
Thanks for a well written review. FLV flavors are typically pretty awesome but I suspect they have pretty high levels of diacetyl (suspect i'm no expert). Still I think I'm going to have to pick up a small bottle and play with it.
I don't want to sound too much like a shill, but they seem to have a pretty firm policy on not adding diketones just for the hell of it. The also publish diacetyl, acetyl propionyl, and acetoin levels for all of their concentrates here. The giant caveat here being that most of the flavors they dropped on August 8th are still showing up as "At the lab."
I get the complaints on their price point, but I really do respect the fact that they do have a clear eliquid focus and publish all of that stuff pretty freely.
They usually don't add diketones for the hell of it but they don't shy away from them always. FLV Frosting off the odor definitely contains them. There just isn't a way to get that dense authentic dairy buttery/milky/caramel flavor otherwise. The only way is to get in the ballpark is to creatively use coconut/peach/jasmine like lactonic notes and a few other tricks to create the impression, as they do in their Pound Cake pretty expertly. There's definitely substitutes that play on the structure of diacetyl but ultimately as you would expect they pose similar levels of risk.
had an entirely polarizing experience. I find this flavor to taste nothing like frosting and entirely like icing (THERES A BIG DIFFERENCE). its very lightly sweet and has almost the waxy taste of icing. haven't really found a use for it nor do I see a need for it in anyone's arsenal.
Just curious, but what kind of setup were you using? I definitely got some fluffiness out of it but that seemed to be more pronounced as a i bumped the wattage up.
How would you compare this to vanilla cupcake?
No experience with TFA, minimal with CAP. This has no cake to it. I think CAP is frosting heavy, but has a least some kind of cake note in there. Never single tested the CAP, but this stuff should be thicker and sweeter. Probably a stronger vanilla too.
