I've been mixing about 6 months. This sub was super helpful and I mixed every recipe I could see. So many good ones
One day I needed to mix but was exhausted from taking care of my baby all day. I decided to whip up some unflavored to get through a few weeks. I measured the Nic base and VG...375 ml worth.
At first it was weird.
Then it was ok.
Now it's amazing!
Unflavored has a flavor. Kinda sweet, very clean, and a tiny bit of pepper (depending on the nicotine you use). I also find it's impossible to get bored of (not everyone would agree of course).
At this point it's all I vape. I make flavored juice for my wife and friends, but I haven't filled a tank with anything but unflavored in a long time.
Give it a try one day. It's cheap, tasty, and satisfying.
Unflavored is the reason I started DIY! No shops around here would sell me unflavored. To boot, they acted like I just asked to bang their SO. I haven't vaped unflavored in awhile though, will have to try it again soon.
I wonder if it works as a palette cleanser?
Lol wtf? It's the easiest and cheapest mix to make. Don't they like money?
I was really surprised. One employee said "you want us to just sell you VG, PG and nic?" but he said it with the same tone you might say "so you want me to give you my car and a hand job, for free?"
They probably think of it as the same thing as someone going to kfc and asking for a bag of the special seasoning blend.
Buy a 240ml of unflavored 3nic at the b&m, a few bottles of loranns at hobby lobby, and you have juice for a month, and that's a whole month of not buying the latest whiskey barrel aged banana custard whatever at markup pricing...
It makes sense from a retail sales viewpoint.
I'm sure they like money, but the current price model of charging by volume instead of by nicotine content is why it doesn't make sense to sell unflavored nicotine. If I buy a $10 bottle of unflavored 24mg/ml and dump it into 7oz of VG, I just cost the B&M 70 bucks worth of 3mg/ml sales.
If I were to try that with flavored juice I'd get a diluted to hell mess that was practically unvapable, which is what I learned when I tried that with flavored juice.
I usually end up vaping unflavored when I'm working on new liquids. Not so much as a palate cleanser, but more because it doesn't mess with my tasting of the different versions. I also switch to unflavored in the evenings some days. I'll feel like I've worn my tastebuds out, and it would just be a waste of good liquid.
I'm sure I would! You could add a little menthol too
I should try this, though at this point I vape mostly for the flavors and to satiate my oral fixation (I'm on 0mg now). I'm a huge menthol fan in my liquid though, like way more menthol than might be advisable lol.
That's why I do unflavored. It kinda resets my palette.
It makes me less numb to all the flavors, and I don't need as much flavor to enjoy my vapes.
Nowadays, I still buy a lot of flavored stuff from places, flavors that I cannot replicate, and I mix it either 50/50 or 66/33 flavored to unflavored. The 50/50 is more than enough for most everything.
Been vaping unflavored for over a year. Two extra benefits to consider:
-
Flavoring compounds are the most likely part of vaping to have health consequences that we aren't aware of yet. We know them to be safe to eat, but we don't know for sure what the long term effects of inhalation. Unflavored, you're inhaling 3 chemicals that have been extensively researched, so you can evaluate the risks. My mouth and lungs feel better without flavorings. It may be certain flavors that I react poorly to, but I don't have to worry about that anymore.

No matter how delicious, the scent of flavored juice bothers non-vapors, especially indoors. You can't smell it if you're vaping, but the smells can be pretty intrusive. Even when your friends say "ooo, that smells good!" at the first whiff of fruit loops, it gets old. Our sense of smell is an alert system, so it gets our attention. There's no fire and there's no cinnamon rolls, there's just a frequent reminder that you're somewhere nearby vaping. With flavorless, once the vapor isn't visible, it's undetectable. Exotic scents give people the sense that there's stuff in that strange cloud, and that stuff hangs around too. I never would have thought about any of this until I switched to flavorless. Friends and acquaintances who didn't like the idea of vaping, or who I knew preferred I didn't vape around them, suddenly didn't mind at all. My girlfriend and her roommates now enjoy trying to make tornadoes on the coffee table.
To the overall point, if you vape as a healthier and less expensive alternative to cigarettes, flavorless is the way to go, and it tastes good too. I think it's strange that flavored juice is ubiquitous, and for our wallets, our health, and the public image of vaping, I do not think it has done much good.
So if I wanted to cut out all nicotine (currently on 1 or 2mg), I could just vape vg and it would still be slightly sweet?
You're correct!
This could be my endgame for vaping, and it would be so cheap!
I'm going to try this tonight. Hopefully I don't regret spending 70 dollars on the order I just placed on aromas.
I tried it today. Its not as good as OP says it is IMO. I got some sweetness but the Coconut/Rubber taste is overwhelming to me at a wattage at 50 or over, under 45 it didn't really taste like anything.
Hell yeah man, it almost tastes like a sweet coconut to me. I think it's pretty nice and vape that once in a while, but one of my favorite hobbies is tasting so mixing kind of is like a little portal to my taste buds! I've also got a few mixes for when my palate is tired so that leaves me not vaping unflavored very often but unflavored also just feels clean too; I don't think my coils have ever gotten discolored from vaping unflavored.
any palette cleansing recipes you might recommend?
I find my Milk & Honey recipe to be a good go to when my taste buds are tired. Also, I highly recommend any mix with Eucalyptus when your buds are worn out and that will revitalize you pretty quick. Just keep in mind you will need to change your cotton and probably clean out your atty when switching hahaha
Wanted to order some flavour today. Still have 1 liter vg/pg (90/10) 3 mg. Will give it a try.
If it is my thing then I literally pay 20 € for 2.5 months of vaping. Lmao
Holy shit, I saw this at like 4am this morning in my grump sleep deprived Reddit extravaganza and made a small batch before I passed out. Never thought to try unflavoured before. Woke up and saw the clear bottle on my desk, completely forgot I did this at the time but went ahead and gave it a vape. Damn man! It's like candy! Sweet, buttery, creamy! I can't believe it! How the fuck did I hold out so long on this?! Thanks for introducing me to the literal bare bones of this industry! It's defiantly different, definitely all day vape quality, and definitely cheap!
That peppery taste is a characteristic of oxidized nic though so you should check your supply.
