What do you think outer space tastes like?
submitted almost 9 years ago by bobbysavageResident Tobacco Specialist

I know that question isn't really quantifiable or makes sense.

Stay with me here. If you think of the beach what flavors do you think of? Piña colada maybe, but the difference is a lot of people have inhabited the beach and done people things there. Oh and I guess coconuts grow there fwiw.

If you think of the North Pole or Santa Clause maybe gingerbread or peppermint comes to mind.

My girlfriend seems to think st louis tastes like fried chicken. Neither of us have been there I seem to agree with her though. I don't know why but I believe her yo.

Space probably tastes like ozone if that even has a taste or maybe some weird tank like taste when scuba diving.

What available flavors would outer space taste like if you think about it.

I am not thinking like space jam bc I don't think their recipes are really that great.

I think of outer space im thinking it's cold, and black.

Hmm maybe koolada or peppermint and licorice eww gross maybe blackberry sounds better.

maybe it's a bomb pop for you.

I want to know: what flavors you would attribute to outer space? I realize that's like asking what does the color purple sound like (screwed and chopped?). Maybe I dosed myself too much back in the day or just the right amount (we may never know).

Existential terror at the sheer smallness of humanity and our utter insignificance, so FA Pineapple.

Seriously though, space is empty and cold. Dark berries and a slight touch of absinthe. Maybe with a barely there wisp of smoky vanilla.

FA Pineapple tastes like onions to me

Absinthe, dark berries, and side of flv brie (moon) cheese

You've got to think dark. Dark fruits, dark tobacco, anise, maybe some nuts... Maybe Koolada or another mint for some of the "cold" aspect if you prefer.

We are on the same page I think anise also Came to mind. I don't like anise or licorice though hmm definitely with you on dark fruits n mints kooolada n tobacco came to mind.

Maybe even chocolate

by wh1skeyk1ngalmost 9 years agoThanks for reading this flair

I'd try FLV Red Burley or INW Dark For Pipe for the chocolate, most others are too candy-like or sweet. Those 2 are almost a better dark chocolate than anything else "chocolate" I've tried, but they need steep time to accomplish that.

Edit: steep time

I will upvote just about anything with Red Bur and Dark For P. But imo, space does not taste like tobacco because it would be impossible to light a match up there to smoke it :/ But then again, I'm clearly overthinking all of this lol.

Not what you were asking, but space smells like the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ejected from the creation of stars.

> Each time, when I repressed the airlock, opened the hatch and welcomed two tired workers inside, a peculiar odor tickled my olfactory senses. At first I couldn’t quite place it. It must have come from the air ducts that re-pressed the compartment. Then I noticed that this smell was on their suit, helmet, gloves, and tools. It was more pronounced on fabrics than on metal or plastic surfaces. It is hard to describe this smell; it is definitely not the olfactory equivalent to describing the palette sensations of some new food as “tastes like chicken.” The best description I can come up with is metallic; a rather pleasant sweet metallic sensation. It reminded me of my college summers where I labored for many hours with an arc welding torch repairing heavy equipment for a small logging outfit. It reminded me of pleasant sweet smelling welding fumes. That is the smell of space.

Popsci:

> The smell of space is so distinct that, three years ago, NASA reached out to Steven Pearce of the fragrance maker Omega Ingredients to re-create the odor for its training simulations. "Recently we did the smell of the moon," Pearce says. "Astronauts compared it to spent gunpowder."

Buzzfeed:

> To me, space smells like a mixture between walnuts and the brake pads of my motorbike

> To @astro_reid, space smells like a pile of wet clothes after a day in the snow (and he’s got a point there)

> Astronomers announced in 2009 that a dust cloud at the centre of our galaxy contains ethyl formate. Ethyl formate is the chemical that gives raspberries their distinct flavour, but actually smells of rum.

> They said it is a very unique smell. As they pulled the hatch open on the Soyuz side, I smelled “SPACE.” It was strange… kind of like burned almond cookie.

So, maybe something like a smoky, nutty, rum?

by ckivealmost 9 years ago

If we look at the Russian space program, I'm also going to guess vodka. So, space probably tastes like booze.

Thinking more along the lines of flavors:

Cold = menthols and mints. Dark = woody, nutty, smoky flavors "Astronaut foods" = dry neopolitan ice cream, etc... Star Trek and The Expanse = exotic fruits

Maybe a tropical fruit version of a neopolitan with a slight touch of cooling and cactus, mixed with just a nudge of FW Hazelnut?

awww yea that sounds horribly delicious.

When /u/technokat said "...hot metal"

I thought of that nasty flavor of hitting an rda that had not been wicked yet.

I had to google PAHs interesting read. Great answers from both of you.

>color purple sound like (screwed and chopped?)

First of all, that makes perfect sense. Anything chopped and screwed is either black, purple or dark blue to me. Second, you definitely have a touch of synesthesia.

And now to the point of this pressing discussion.. Space obviously tastes like Light Up Life Savers and Oreos. I don't know if that would be good in a tank but it is what it is homie.

2 points

by bobbysavagealmost 9 years agoResident Tobacco Specialist

>Light up life savers and Oreos.

Fukn ded. hahahahahah

Edit: to skirt the rda staining this is where the dual rda mods come in handy. Load one up with Oreos and the other up with lifesavers... Then re-evaluate my life and....

Blast off!

I think we're on to something here. Might I suggest a pair of flexible drip tips for dual RDAing. They're like the swirly straws of the vape world.

That drip tip Is so bad. Anything is possible though I saw nesquick crazy straw glasses last night at the grocery store.

I think they beat us to it in a way more streamlined manner

Your solution is way cheaper though I already got 2 mods/rdas

Raspberries, well, the Milky Way galaxy anyways. Residing amongst the galaxy is a molecule known as ethyl formate, which ironically, is what gives the raspberry its flavour. Fun fact, it resembles the aroma of rum too.

I think instead of portraying it for what it is, it should be portrayed for what it could be: very alien-ey instead of cold and hostile.

It's creamy but a weird and very light cream, as if the milk came from an animal you never seen before... you want to say it's fruity but you can't put a name on that fruit. They've shown you pictures in the form of visions, they looked like Dragonfruits but with yellow flesh and pink skin.

Can I hit your vape bruh ?

Haha I'm gunna say you dosed your self just right. I would say dark fruits, tart and bitter. Maybe koolada cold, not minty cold.

P.s. as a kid I heard the moon was made of cheese. So maybe flv brie cheese with some dark berries and a touch of koolada. Sounds kinda funky tho lol, but who knows!

Dark berries and fruit like others have mentioned, but also some crazy flavor benders. Like not natural dark berries or fruits, but those that have an odd candy taste to them, almost jelly candy like, but more like how Airheads makes fruit flavors taste. I dunno man, you've got me tripping out now and I'm not even high yet.

I just think of some indescribable mix of artifical flavors combined to make a crazy delicious and sweet e juice that all the space pioneers call "liquid snake"

And they pull up to the fueling stations and ask "Ay.. How much for a bottle of yer finest sweet liquid snake?"

3 points

Here's the Urban Dictionary definition of Totally Awesome Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake :

>An incredibly potent drug that causes you to "get so high your brains will blow chunks into the milky way." It causes you to go insane and leaves your mind a blank slate. It was used by members of the hair metal band, Snakes n' Barrels, during their reunion concert and caused all but their lead singer, Pickles, to go insane.

"Hey, you guys want to try some Totally Awesome Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake?"

"We got some Totally Awesome Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake from a dude."

At first I thought this thread is completely crazy, but then it actually kind of make sense reading some of the replies and the associations that are making. Nice inspiring creative process, well done!

I'll personally go with either blue and dark berries or sour green apple. Might not be apple actually, but definetly something very bright green coloured, not unnecessary unnatural, but definitely not dark.
