I've been vaping for a while now, and making my own juice for a little over a year and lately I have been switching to more of a high nic + MTL style vape.
I feel like its one way for me to be certain that I can taste my flavors. I tend to get burnt out pretty quickly with my drippers and get mild vapor's tongue.
Is anyone else find that they are enjoying MTL more and more as of late?
Also my new MTL recipe just for fun. Mixed at 60/40 VG/PG 5mg nic.
Ingredient|% :---|---: Almond (FA)|0.8 Banana Cream (LA)|1 Bavarian Cream (TPA)|3 Coconut Extra (TPA)|0.3 Sugar Cookie (CAP)|6 Vanilla Custard v1 (CAP)|4
Flavor total: 15.1%
Recipe was inspired by /u/ID10-T 's Simple Sugar Cookie. https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/10644#simple_sugar_cookie_by_id10_t
#NOTES:
We should all know about /u/ID10-T Simple Sugar Cookie recipe. Its simple and straight to the point! I wanted to take that and gear it more towards a "Cookies with milk" sorta zone.
Now bear with me here because I only did SLIGHT pre-planning for this recipe, but the idea has been stewing for a while now.
##COOKIE:
Obviously Sugar Cookie (CAP) is the main star here when it comes to the cookie, but Vanilla Custard V1 (CAP) really helps bring in that rich sweet taste we long for in a sugar cookie! I personally wanted to lower the percentage of the sugar cookie from 8% (in the original recipe) to 6%, since I wanted the cookie to taste almost drowned out by some of the milk. (Since, if you have a cookie in milk, the cookie does tend to take a soggy/new flavor)
##MILK:
This is where things get interesting. I found out in a different recipe (I may post it, but its not ready) that Bavarian Cream (TFA) and low percentages of Almond (FA) tend to make a REALLY delicious and rich milk. After a longer steep it may change the flavor profile slightly, but it really does take that milk up a notch! (Typically 3% bav cream and sub 1% almond does the trick). Also when paired with VERY low percentages of coconut extra (TFA) you can get an even richer/fresher milk.
Lastly, the Banana Cream (LA). This one was a odd ball. I've always been interested in low percentages of banana with a creamy base to add that little something extra to a recipe. I can hardly taste it, but I do think that it does help with the overall milky-ness of the flavor. Banana Cream is also a slightly sweet flavor, and that never hurts when your trying to get that sugar cookie profile.
Edit: Added recipe notes.
Love me some mouth to lung, big fan of the Kayfuns. Recipe looks solid, going to mix a bottle of that when I get home.
Most people do that realize dropping $25 a bottle and blowing through it in 2 days with a .1 ohm megaclaptonalienhelixhyper coil doesn't make much financial sense to the general populace. It's fun and great if u need a rush of flavor for whatever reason. But if you're smoking for the nic as most people do. Having a setup that doesn't need refilling constantly and has all day battery is perfectly fine.
Personal setup:
Zero mod
LG HG2 3k mAh battery
NextGen atomizer with 5 ml capacity
1.2 ohm coil
Unflavored 50/50 VG/PG blend with 12 mg nic.
Runs all day, don't need to refill more than twice if I am not fiending on it, and coils don't need cleaning more than three times a week. Wicking and recoiling done every few months (last setup lasted me 7 months).
is the low maintenance really worth vaping an unflavoured mix?
To me personally(after getting used to it) it is. Gunking isn't an exact science, but it seems any sugary additive makes gunking extremely prevalent and very soon.
I notice that gunking isn't as common in high wattage builds that use things like cotton if you are firing at such a high wattage that it feels like the hit is going almost dry at the end of the hit. The reason being is because if you can get the temp high enough and fast enough to instantly blast away that vapor, most gunking characteristics don't have a chance to manifest themselves because the whole liquid is getting vaporized fast and whole. On the other hand if you are vaping and you have a build that has a few second ramp up time, that time of ramp up (that can also be made worse if you're taking a pull and the air is keeping the coil cooler than it would be if you weren't pulling, then it would heat up faster), that time while it's ramping up, along with your pull also cooling the surface of the coil, allows more gunk to form because you aren't fully vaporizing the liquid throughout the hit, instead it's like boiling the liquid/cooking and baking some of it on the coil itself.
Unflavored also has other benefits like avoiding the unknowns in the artificial chemicals we use for flavoring, so things like diacetyl and potentially harmful molecules like it, have no chance of ever having to be in your lungs to cause damage. Another thing is, unflavored isn't really like air because VG itself is naturally sweet, so you do get a bit of that light refreshing sweet taste, but not something so sweet that it makes you insensitive to other sweet things and other sweet flavors.
One also big benefit is oral hygiene. We all know how sweet stuff is food for bacteria and you can experience this when you eat a junk food candy or sweet treat and you don't mouth wash/brush your teeth right after. Your mouth feels very icky/acidic/saltish/gunky/slimy. These are the byproducts that lead to bad breath and whatnot caused by the oral bacteria using that sweet stuff. With vaping it's not so bad all over your mouth as gorging on something like a brownie, but you will definitely feel it on your tongue to your throat(on your throat more because unlike your tongue you can rub and spit around in your mouth to clean it a bit, your throat doesn't have that ability). Try vaping sub ohm hard with a few hits and go to bed, if your vape is sweet, tell me how your throat feels so nasty and phlegm/dry saliva filled in the morning, it's horrible. Sorry about the disgusting details. But yeah, with unflavored that is vastly minimized to almost zero, and you aren't left with a mouth you wouldn't want to kiss mother with, let alone your intimate partner.
well, thanks for the in depth response.
personally i haven´t had the experience you are describing in regards to mouth and throat hygiene, but I get where you are coming from.
in regards to the possible dangers of the aromas, i am not a very risk averse person and enjoy the taste, i wouldn´t vape if it wasn´t for the flavour.
i guess those two points must have been the deciding factor in your decision?
Since i can´t imagine having to rewick while cleaning the coils alone would really warrant such drastic measures...
After I got my Kayfun v5 I went back to MTL. I only use drippers now for testing flavours or deciding what flavor I actually want to vape
Thats kinda what changed it for me too.
When I first got the Kayfun v5 I didn't really love it, but I was always using it as a high ohm lung hit tank... Which wasn't for me.
Lately I've been rocking a .41ohm coil at 40w on the lowest air flow with quick MTL hits and DAMN the flavor is just on point, no problems with wicking! Just great overall. But, it took me 2 months of not using the kayfun to find that, haha.
Did you buy the MtL kit for it or do you think it's suitable for MtL as it comes?
A couple months ago I started going back to not MTL..but more restricted air tanks. I haven't bought much vape gear in this past year so I had some money saved up to get the newest tanks. Squape X, Rose 3, KF5, Taifun GT3 to name a few. I've also went back to 60vg/40 and I'm at 5mg. I really don't care about anything else and I'm completely satisfied with vaping these tanks for years to come. Thanks for the recipe too.
And the winner is?
They are all great really. The Taifun GT3 is the best out of them all. Immediately followed by the Rose 3, then the KF5.
never switched away from it :). Been in love with kayfuns since I bought my first ehpro clone a few years ago, probably gonna pick up a v5 to try out pretty soon, been using the kfl+ pretty much exclusively.
Get the Tobeco V5, I got one, and it's perfect, no issues at all. Also, throw a Mini V3 in the order - it's better than the V5, the V3 has a perfect draw, the V5 is more airy and you might need the adapters to restrict the airflow.
I'm about 50-50 subohm and MtL now. I still subohm at work cause I only get a few breaks a day, and a decent chain vape session keeps me nic'd up for a couple hours. Out and about, and often at home now, I'm preferring higher nic and MtL. Even with a Kayfun Mini V3 I'm only filling the tank 2-3 times a day. It's convenient for just being able to take a few puffs and get your fix. And shit, dual 18650s in a DNA133 with a 1ohm build at 18w lasts foooooooooooooreveeeeeeeeeeer. I've also been playing with some tobaccos lately, and I find they taste much better with higher PG and smaller hits - there's too much sweetness from using a lot of VG that doesn't suit tobaccos in my opinion.
Going to throw 15mL's of this recipe together. I may drop the coconut down though, it's not a flavour I'm fond of and I seem to be super sensitive to it.
I went back to a Kayfun Lite+ four or five months ago and went back up to 6 nic. Love not coating everything in my room in VG and not having a haze of vape floating around.
RULE #6 there mister "proud sidebar reader"
Please include notes, or remove this post and put it in the monthly thread.
For real, /u/hblamo. I'm glad my simple recipe did what I hoped to do by sharing it, inspired someone to create something they enjoy more by messing around with it and adding new ingredients, but this needs some notes or to be moved to the monthly thread. I hope you go for the notes option, my friend, because I really want to see the notes on how you arrived at these flavors and %'s. It looks tasty and I'm thinking of mixing it up but with TFA Coconut at say 0.5 to 1% since I don't have Extra.
Notes it is!
Figured it was an exception to the rule since the thread was more geared towards the MTL question and less towards the actually recipe. (That was honestly more of a last minute addition to the thread.)
