Thank you to everyone who participated in Flavor of The Week last week.
As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic. And if this week's flavor doesn't interest you, take this opportunity to suggest one for the week after next that does (or send me a PM to do that).
This week's flavor is: PLUM
Past FOTW posts can be found here.
Prepare yourselves, next week's FOTW will be: HERBS (you know, like rosemary, basil, sweet woodruff, etc).
Alright, so I ended up with less time than I would have liked to mess around with TFA Plum, but /u/coop34 is definitely on to something. I diluted it at 10% like I mentioned above and I think it'll be more manageable. A bit on the thin side due to dilution but no more weird plastic taste. Still kinda candy-ish but the .25% INW Plum seems to be counterbalancing that nicely.
INW Plum is glorious. It's one of my favorite all time INW flavors. It's a really deep, sweet, slightly syrupy plum flavor. Fantastic alone, or with other darker fruits. I've messed with it alongside cherry, raspberry, blackberry, and some florals with great results. Here's a few recipes for starters, but I have some more I've mixed up and steeping that I'll add closer to the end of the week.
I'll have a few more soon if I end up with some positive results on these TFA Plum/other plum recipes. <3
Holy shit! My first reddit gold! Thank you sirs! I should have some time in the next day or two to sit and test out those recipes :D
That's what I got INW plum for, Pluckle. I couldn't remember if I bought it for a recipe or just to try. So, thanks for that. It's such a delicious flavor. I could totally see just single flavor vaping this one all day long.
Wow, thank you for this. Quality comments like this are why I brought back FOTW. Looking forward to the results of your other experiments. If they fail, I think we'd like to see them anyway, along with your thoughts on why they failed and what you might do to fix them.
Thanks! Glad to help out. I'm already compiling for the herbs next week. I'll post my thoughts on TFA Plum diluted after I give it a chance to steep properly, and I mixed up three more recipes, two more with TFA and one without because I've been dying to pair INW Plum with INW Rhubarb/Pink Panter.
It does make a nice pairing with white peach. I picked it up back when I naively thought that I could even roughly clone Buckland, /u/fizzmustard's masterpiece. I still think the peach/apricot/plum is present in his mix, but the rest is a mystery.
I look forward to trying these you've posted, thanks for sharing!
I agree with all that /u/HocusKrokus has said in this thread about INW Plum. I have been playing with it for a little bit and researching flavor pairings so I would like to take this opportunity to share where my journey has taken me.
Plum as an accent piece in that delectable Toasted Marshmallow/Kentucky Bourbon combo that I have come to love with blackberry companionship: Plum Smugglin
Plum complimenting peach with surprise juicy grapefruit: Nova
And finally, a bold move that hooks up this deep and glorious fruit flavor with FW Hazelnut: Kicking Rocks
edit: /u/ID10-T, I am about plum-ed the hell out.
Well I'd told myself that those last three I made this morning were going to be it for the week. Fuck you man.
^That ^shit ^looks ^^good ^^^AF
You have nobody to blame but yourself! I have you and /u/ID10-T to blame for having me spend the last couple of weeks working on these. If you must restrict yourself, I would make Kicking Rocks because it is the coolest of the group.
Oh my god this plum trilogy looks as good as Star Wars episodes 4 through 6. Especially that Plum Smugglin. Thank you! <3
/u/StardustCoyote is really big on florals and decided to mix this up at random one day. Ended up being one of her ADVs, although we haven't decided if we want to put it on our menu or not.
FA Jasmine 2.5%
INW Smoked Plum 2.5%
FA Lemon Sicily 1%
INW Honey 0.7%
So far we haven't noticed any off notes in INW Honey like people do with TFA's. It adds just the right amount of extra sweetness to this recipe, which is definitely more on the delicate side of things.
I was wondering how long it would take Smoked Plum to show up!
I'm sure you frugivores have all kinds of mouthwatering recipes and ideas for INW Plum, but does anyone know what to do with this weird TFA Plum?
I played around some when I first got it. It's strong, can easily overpower a mix. I love a combo of FA White Peach and TFA Apricot, at a 1:2 ratio. A tiny bit of INW Plum is a nice addition.
On phone so sorry for bad formatting and not using percentages. And still mixing by volume. But, my girlfriend loves when i make her a 30ml of:
2ml TFA Juicy Peach 1ml CAP strawberry (sweet? I'll look when i get home if there is interest) 1ml CAP Golden Pineapple .5ml TFA Plum.
It all adds up to 15 percent but I'm at work and too lazy to do the math on my 15 minute break.
Peach and a little plum does sound like a winning combination. I might steal this profile but use different peach, strawberry, and pineapple flavors and see if it's better with vs. without the plum.
I'd like to develop a Sugar Plum Spice Tea flavor, aka Plum Chai, I was thinking of pairing a plum with TFA Chai Tea II, and maybe a sweetener. Does anyone have experience with TFA Chai Tea II? Or even TFA Chai Tea regular? Do those TFA Chai's even have a tea taste? Also not sure which plum is the best for that
I love TFA Chai Tea because of all the spices. Mixed up this Green Tea Fried Ice Cream with 1% Chai yumm
I've been messing around with Plum INW with Black Cherry (FA & FW). I make a Slump that's a plum cheery cobbler however I can't figure out how to make a cobbler vape. Sure Cinnamon Danish Swirl (CAP) with some Joy seem to be the obvious choice but it's just not cutting it.
I made a Cherry cobbler that I feel is pretty dead on. The cherry could probably be subbed out easily for the Plum/Black Cherry.
V2 is important for a subtler less eggy thick taste. Crispy Rice Cereal adds gritty crunch of the top layer crust. Sweet Cream sweetens it all up. Cherry fills out the pie filling.
- INW Cherry @5%
- FW Crispy Rice Cereal @5%
- CAP French Vanilla V2 @4%
- TFA Sweet Cream @3%
Ooo, that sounds good. For a cobbler crust, I would try some FA Apple Pie, INW Biscuit, and CAP Sugar Cookie in addition to the CDS. What are you using to make the plum and cherries taste cooked?
Edit: Cobber Crust: 0.5% INW Biscuit, 1% FA Apple Pie, 1.5% CAP CDS, 2% CAP Sugar Cookie. No Joy required. For starters, anyway, might need some adjustment when introduced to cherries and plum.
Thank you for the recommendation I will mix some testers let them steep and get back to you. As far as baked flavor isn't it more in the power of suggestion? Maybe a little Bourbon or Amber
Power of suggestion doesn't turn raw fruit into cooked fruit, my friend. What does? Exactly what you just said, some bourbon or amber. It might not take much at all, as you're already getting some cooked notes from the crust ingredients that should project themselves onto the fruit somewhat, but not enough to finish the job.
I'd start with Liquid Amber, but no guarantees, I've never tried it with cherries and plum and maybe it will clash with one or more of them in a bad way. If Liquid Amber doesn't work, you might try a low dose of any of the alcohol flavors. I'd start with TFA Kentucky Bourbon but don't rule out FA Brandy or FA Jamaican Rum. Or maybe FA Whiskey, but I don't know, haven't tried that one yet. A teensy bit of TFA Brown Sugar might also help.
So is the supposed Dr. Pepper taste of TFA Plum really like Dr. Pepper, and good? Because my dad just started vaping and loves the 'Doc...
I don't think so, because more than the Dr. Pepper taste, there's a weird unpleasant plasticy thing going on. There's a fairly well known Dr. Pepper recipe by HiC that's much more Dr. Pepper-like. I think I've improved it just by changing the %s a little. I'll post it here when I'm not on mobile.
Here, see if your Dad likes this: FA Cola 3%, FA Black Cherry 1.25%, FA Vanilla Bourbon 0.75%, FA Almond 0.75%, FA Marzipan 0.75%, FA Caramel 0.75%
Or what I believe is the original recipe by wllmc (I was wrong, it was not HiC): 2% FA cola, 1% FA black cherry, and 0.5% of the others.
I did a play on this as well, Here if you're interested. It's a bit more involved, so it may not be for everyone. Turned out rather nice.
I don't know man. In the first one above, I had to back off the Black Cherry after first trying it at 1.5% because it was a hair too much cherry. Yours looks like way too much cherry to me unless you're trying to make a Cherry Dr. Pepper (and there'd be nothing wrong with that, Cherry Dr. Pepper is awesome), but with higher concentrations of those other ingredients, maybe it would taste more like DP to me and not be over-cherried. Only one way to find out!
