making raspberry 'pop'
submitted almost 9 years ago by [deleted]

Hey,

I'm trying to make a raspberry candy flavor, I have the following raspberry's:

TFA Raspberry Sweet
INAWERA Raspberry
CAP Raspberry v2

I've made a heap of batches using different %'s of each but I came to the conclusion that all of them are missing something. INAWERA Raspberry is definitely the strongest 'raspberry' flavor in my opinion.
I added cotton candy and acai berry to it and it seems to help, but I still feel like something isn't right.

Is there another fruit flavor I should add to really make the raspberry pop, or would I be better off using some sort of creamier flavor such as CAP Vanilla Bean Ice Cream?

Thanks!

Try TFA Dragonfruit at 1% or TFA Strawberry Ripe at 2%. You could even go with CAP Lemon Lime at 1-2% to introduce a bit of zest and make the raspberry a bit livelier.

I did toy with a lemon but found it to be too zesty, I will definitely give DF a try.

Yeah then dragonfruit might be up your alley. Sometimes, you need to introduce a second or third fruit to add some dimension to your main profile. Example: If you want a more varied pear, add a little apple.

That's exactly why I posted this, I've just picked up TFA strawberry ripe and did a quick shake and vape and it definitely seems to be nearly where I want it on the raspberry flavor, so I'm excited to let it steep and see what comes of it.
Is there a rule of thumb for a total % of concentrates I should try to not go above?

I've been mixing 1% inw raspberry with 1.5% fa fuji . I adapted the combo from rhodonite by enyawreklaw. Its the only thing in my arsenal that can give me a juicy raspberry.

I would first try a little Blackberry, Cap being my favorite at .50%. Or Forest fruit FA at maybe 1%. Strawberry Ripe TFA is another choice at .50 to 1%. All of these flavors are similar and will help to round out the Raspberry INW (my preferred raspberry). So to sum up raspberry at 1.5-2.0% with .50 to 1% blackberry/forest fruit/strawberry ripe. I like a drop of Sour per 10 mls but ymmv.

INW Cactus at 0.5% or TFA Champagne at 1%.

I would stay away from VBIC if you're trying to get it to pop, although it would probably taste alright with the proper proportions.

Thanks man, I don't mean to be a pain but can you explain why these flavors will help the raspberry?

I was suggesting them to help it 'pop'. You could use either or but you probably don't need both.

Maybe I should clarify, by pop I meant be more prominent, really bring out the real fruity raspberry flavor.

I've always used lemon at very low percentages to accentuate the raz.. but you need to stay really low IMO ~.25 ish

I'll order some lemon, which one do you recommend?

You could also look into cranberry. I've noticed they compliment each other very well. TFA cranberry at a very low percentage. It may seem strong at first but after a few days, it dies down..
Blackberry or blueberry would certainly help also.

Additionally, you could lower the lemon if it's that recipe where you're trying to get the raspberry to pop..maybe lower the sweetner as well and add raspberry sweet instead.

I'm gonna recommend Fuji or just a touch of Bahraini Apple. or both like @ .1 for Bahraini and .3 for Fuji.

Honestly, if you are missing 'pop' with all three of those then you aren't going to get much better. INW Raspberry is the strongest 'poppiest' flavor I have ever experienced.

Some FA Lemon Sicily can definitely help give it that pop you want, also possibly FLV Pink Guava?

If you really want a candy taste then try adding a small amount of CAP Jelly Candy. Keep it low though as it gets super sweet and synthetic really quickly, but that might be just what you are missing.

I actually tried this but my initial mixing was too high and it tasted like chemicals until it steeped for 3 weeks, then it was alright.

Depending on if you want the tartness of the raspberry to pop. (Capella lemon Sicily) or a slightly sweeter pop. (Jungle Flavor lemon juicy) to me raspberries are tart to my palate so I'd go with the Cap here if your trying to keep it real...

Oh I've also heard of using straight up citric acid diluted in pg but I've never tried it..

I am going to suggest INW Raspberry at 3%, INW Cactus at 0.5%, and FW blueberry 2% at least, more to taste. I've made it, and it is a very candy like raspberry.
