Weekly 'Suggest a Recipe for my Flavors' Thread - Week of October 21, 2016
submitted almost 9 years ago by AutoModerator

Got a bunch of flavors but not sure how to make them work together? Post your list here, and our team of semi-professional mixologists will make suggestions for you! If you are impatient and want to do this on your own, here are a couple of good links:

  • /u/daath has a nice website that has this functionality, but you will need to register to make it work. It is not very intuitive but if you work with it you can input your flavors and get a list of recipes that you can make. IMO this is the better site if you have the patience to make it work for you. Edit2: to get this to work, first set up an account. Then add your flavors to the stash (under my page / my flavor stash). hit save. Then go back to the front page and click the link next to the search field, "Search by flavor stash". You can select a couple of your flavors and recipes that have those will pop up.
  • This site has a nice big search button with just what you're looking for.

Happy Mixing!

Try one of these:

Simple Sugar Cookie

And a Snickerdoodle-type cookie: 7% CAP Sugar Cookie, 3% Cinnamon Danish, 4% Vanilla Custard, 0.5% Cotton Candy.

For your Banana Cream (BC) enjoyment, try one of these if any of them appeal to you:

5% BC, 4% Strawberry, 3% Bavarian, 1% Vanilla Swirl, 1% VBIC

4% BC, 4% Vanilla Custard, 3% Sugar Cookie, 2% Bavarian, 1.5% Graham Cracker

4.5% BC, 2% Cinnamon Danish, 3% Sugar Cookie

7% BC, 4% Bavarian, 2% VBIC

5% BC, 5% Bavarian, 2% Cinnamon Danish, 0.5% Coconut Extra

7% BC, 2% Bavarian, 2% Sugar Cookie, 2% Vanilla Swirl

Jasons White Coconut Cake (I love this stuff, im actually looking for a Coconut Cream recipe or something that tastes like these if anyone knows them

Apple Buttah by DIYorDIE (it tastes like Apfel Strudel) but only occansionally.

However, right now i'm looking for a dense fruity vape, full in taste. I don't like Vienna Cream for some reason.

If you have any suggestions on what i could order, please suggest away u/ID10-T suggested INW Cactus, I'll order that for sure

Have you tried using Orange Cream for more of that dense fruity fullness yet?

2 points

by selberdrehenalmost 9 years ago

I haven't used it at all tbh. It only arrived 5 days ago.

1 points

by ID10-Talmost 9 years ago

Try adding 1.5% of it to a reasonable standalone % of whatever fruit flavor you think would be good with a little orange flavor added to it, and let that steep for 7 to 10 days.

Consider a banana cream flavor for your next order as well unless you don't like banana.

Have you tried replacing the 2% Fuji in Juicy J's with 4% Green Apple or the 3% Fuji in Wapple with 6% Green Apple? Just looking for something for you to do with that Green Apple.

Also try one of these if any of them appeal to you:

TNTish: 3% TFA Green Apple, 4% TFA Peach, 6% Strawberry Ripe

actually i hadn't thought of that, even though i have a blue dragons blood steeping at the moment and that's someone adding blueberry to dragons blood. i think i'll start with green strap-on and TNTish.

thank you.

Yep, you could also try a green dragon's blood adding green apple to whatever dragon's blood recipe you're using.

Please let me know how those turn out for you.

initial impressions from a shake and vape.

http://i.imgur.com/dRZQtz3.jpg?1

TNTish: a little on the harsh side. the green apple is VERY assertive. this one is going to have to hang out for a couple of days and to see if the apple will calm down and let the other flavors through.

Green Strap-on: almost an instant hit. the cactus comes through a lot. almost has the pledge after taste i've read about but... and this might seem weird, i like it. it's almost a sweet lemon flavor and for me it could definitely be a shake and vape. going to let it sit for a couple of days also and see what turns up.

1 points

by ID10-Talmost 9 years ago

> this might seem weird, i like it.

I've noticed that happening a lot with INW Cactus.

In retrospect TNTish might not have been such a great idea. The EM in the strawberry ripe should help calm down the apple after a few days though.

Thanks for the update.

Lemonade (LA) 6% Lemon Sicily (TFA) 1.5%

If you think it needs to be more sour, drop the LA Lemonade some and increase the FA Lemon Sicily accordingly. LA Lemonade has that sugary candy lemon flavor.

Have you tried either of these yet?

Ginger Sauce

Simple Sugar Cookie

You can shake and vape either of them, although they both will improve if you let them rest a few days. Also the second one is such a versatile combo/ratio that you can add a low % of almost anything else in your stash and it will be be even better.

2 points

by mjt6981almost 9 years ago

Hey- Thanks! I had my eye on Ginger Sauce and then forgot about it. I think I'll give that a try today. While I have you here, if you don't mind of course, I know I need to grab things like INW Biscuit and FA Joy. Are there any other concentrates that you'd recommend for bakery/desserts that everyone should have hanging around?

2 points

by ID10-Talmost 9 years ago

Yes. As I was looking through your list and thinking of things you could make, I kept crossing things off because you are missing, most of all, FA Meringue, followed by the two you already know, INW Biscuit and FA Joy. Others you should probably consider adding include TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust and TFA Graham Cracker Clear. If you like cinnamon I'd add CAP Cinnamon Danish Swirl, and you like the taste of TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, get TFA White Chocolate (I say that because the vanilla note in them is similar). Regardless, you definitely need Meringue, Biscuit, and Joy. But instead of picking out flavors, you'd be even better off finding some recipes sound good to you and getting what you need to make those.

Based on what you said about fruity cereals, I suggest shopping for the ingredients in one or more of these:

Pebbles

Bedrocket

My Milk

Shameless

Lupe

Cereally Easy Loops

Cereally Easy Crunchies

Cereal Marshmallow Strawberry Milk

Hey man- Sorry to bother you again. I'm placing my order with ECX and as I'm sure you are aware they don't carry INW products. So, I'm wondering if you have experience with JF Biscuit? Can it be successfully used as a substitute for INW Biscuit? Thanks again for your help!

1 points

by ID10-Talmost 9 years ago

It's no bother. I haven't tried JF Biscuit yet but I certainly intend to because palates I trust are saying it's just like INW, only better.

However, ECX DOES carry INW: http://www.ecigexpress.com/shop/diy-e-liquid/diy-e-liquid-flavors/inawera.html

I hate to have to break this to you, but you need regular TFA Strawberry to make Mustard Milk, not Strawberry Ripe or Organic Strawberry.

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is a good flavor to try early on because you can mix it with almost anything and have good results.

Try a simple Double Vanilla Custard: 6% Vanilla Custard, 3% VBIC, 2% Sweet Cream, 1% Cheesecake Graham Crust.

Maybe sure you try all of your flavors individually first, there is a good post about doing that here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/4fdevi/modest_monday_reviewing_flavors/

This way you'll know which flavors you want to mix together.

But regardless, once you find a good single-flavor %s for your flavors, you can combine that with around 4% VBIC and make good simple two-ingredient recipes like Mustard Milk. Tweak the percentages just right, maybe add another flavor or two, and you could easily create an awesome recipe.

How do I mix:
  • TFA Green Tea

  • TFA Phillipine Mango

  • CAP Honeydew Melon

2 points

by ID10-Talmost 9 years ago

You mix them in the way that tastes the best to you, of course. But if I had to make something out of these three flavors I'd probably go with 7% Philippine Mango, 3% Green Tea, 2% CAP Honeydew for starters and adjust from there. Philippine Mango is weak and you have to use it higher to get much flavor out of it. Green Tea is stronger and has a grassy taste that gets worse as you go higher. I haven't tried CAP Honeydew but 2% seems to be where people are using it.

Thank you very much. Yes I am new to this. I want to make another tea flavor too, a Plum Chai eliquid. Could I get your input on that too? The ingredients I want to make it with are:

  • TFA Chai tea II
  • a plum flavor, TFA Plum PG sounds the safest for vaping, but I don't like how it's Dr. Pepper flavor, can I use INA or LA Plum?
2 points

I don't know much about Chai flavors but I have TFA Plum and it's not very good. People speak very highly of INA Plum so I'd try that one.

TFA Vanilla Custard TFA Sweet Cream
TfA Dragonfuit TFA DX Banana Cream
TFA Koolada

by ID10-Talmost 9 years ago

Try one of these:

7% Dragonfruit, 2% Strawberry Ripe, 2% Bavarian Cream, 1% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

4% Strawberry Ripe, 2% Raspberry Sweet, 3% Cheesecake Graham Crust, 3% Bavarian Cream, 1% Dragonfruit.

5% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, 3% Raspberry Sweet, 8% Strawberry Ripe

3% Pear, 2% Dragonfruit, 4% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

3% Pear, 0.5% Dragonfruit, 2% Bourbon, 2% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, 1% Cheesecake Graham Crust

6% Vanilla Custard, 3% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, 1% Sweet Cream, 1% Bavarian Cream, 1.5% Cheesecake Graham Crust

Also, do single-flavor mixes of all of those flavors. It will familiarize you with them and give you very good ideas about which ones you want to mix together and at which %'s you want to mix them. Here's an excellent post about doing that:

https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/4fdevi/modest_monday_reviewing_flavors/

Also, VBIC is an excellent ingredient to have. Once you've figured out good standalone %'s for all of your flavors, you can try making simple two-ingredient recipes using that flavor plus around 4% VBIC and it should yield tasty results that might be the start of a great recipe.

2 points

by vandtalmost 9 years ago

I already did 4% Vbic and 6% strawberry ripe, however I seem to belong to the unfortunate souls that can't taste strawberry... thank you very much for all those recipes... I will start mixing asap!

1 points

by ID10-Talmost 9 years ago

Awesome, let me know how they go! You can probably vape the first three right away, though they will get better over time if you let them steep. Definitely let the last one steep. Cheesecake needs two weeks to taste right. Some say even longer.

2 points

by caffeinedalmost 9 years ago

I've vaped for many years, and I'm really burning out on my CAP and TFA creams and custards, my irritated lungs are telling me it's time to go in a different direction. I've searched, but can't really find what I am looking for, and I SUCK at developing recipies. I want a light, simple, tasty, mildly sweet, cream base that I can add some fruit overtones to. I would like to make this base out of my neglected Flavourart flavors. Can anyone recommend some mix, simple or compound that might meet my needs? Here is my inventory of FA flavors, and thank you very much in advance.

Catalan Cream

Fresh Cream

Meringue

Vienna Cream

Yogurt

Nonna's Cake

Torrone

Cookie

I'll likely use this base with with either FA Fuji, CAP sweet strawberry, MF Blueberry or MF Cantaloupe for the fruit note.

1 points

by ID10-Talmost 9 years ago

Try 3% Vienna Cream + 1.5% Fresh Cream and mind the steep times. I've never tried a recipe with Vienna Cream in there that I haven't wanted to steep even longer than the recipe creator suggested was the optimal steep time.

2 points

by caffeinedalmost 9 years ago

Thank you! I'll mix some up tonight and give it a shot.

1 points

by wh1skeyk1ngalmost 9 years agoThanks for reading this flair

I'm going to shamelessly suggest FA Torrone standalone at 3%. It's complex enough by itself to satisfy me as an ADV. Plus, it's my favorite flavor. May or may not be your thing, but I'd give it a shot and mix 10-15 mL and let it steep a bit. If you decide you don't like it, you can always use a little bit here and there to accent another mix or add another layer of depth.

Thanks, I'm going to give this a shot tonight. I really like the thought of a single or simple combination flavor mix, I've never really experimented with them but am drawn to the thought more lately. I'm getting a little sick of very complex mixes as good as some of them are.

by 3423553453almost 9 years ago

I've been trying to make a decent clone of Mech Sauce's Lucky Arms as it was the only recipe I can truly vape all day but TFA Lucky Leprechaun seems to conceal that exact flavor I'm looking for behind a wall of harshness. Tried 7%, steeped for 2 weeks and gradually took it down to 5% and flavor goes away before the harshness. Also I really liked Unicorn Milk from early 2015, but can't ADV their newer version. TFA Bavarian cream feels too rich and heavy at perceivable %s.

I'm not looking for a complex profile, I don't go to fancy restaurants, I go to Mike's Burger joint because it doesn't try to surprise me, it doesn't make me think "oh what is that". It's a reliable, typical cheeseburger bacon. I'm looking for the "whipped cream pie in your face" feel, something you can take a small bite from or mouthful and it goes down easily.

Please enlighten me, I don't know what to do with all of this:

I did make 20ml of all of them except the My Dudes clones, they're all a week old now and still disappointing, the taste is there and it's good but in every case I feel like they could use a bump in flavorings and/or some sucralose.

I tried adding 0.5% distilled water, it seemed to have helped mitigate the dryness but they are still quite bland overall :(

Could it be that I just really miss copious amounts of diacetyl ? Which one of these recipes is the smoothest to you ?

There were several things that I would have liked to suggest for you but I kept getting stymied by your lack of CAP Vanilla Custard Version 1. That V2 is rather disgusting, to my taste. They say if you steep it for a whole month it comes out well. But I think I'm almost as addicted to diacetyl as I am to nicotine.

None of those are especially "smooth" to me other than Mother of Dragons' Milk, and it's as bright and fruity as it is smooth, sounds like not what you're looking for. The others have bakery-type flavors in them which all seem to have some inherent dryness to them... which I don't mind. I'm working on a cookie recipe right now and I think I'm going to have to add some FA Cookie to get it MORE dry than it is with just CAP Sugar Cookie, for example. Probably not for you, at least not right now.

It sounds like you might have a case of olfactory fatigue and should take steps to rule out and/or remedy that. You could also try increasing the overall flavor % of recipes using the same recipe ratios. Or adding 1% sweetener to everything. But if I were you, the first thing I'd do is buy some CAP VC V1. And then I'd try everything there is to do for vaper's tongue while I wait for it to arrive.

Is it safe to assume from your ingredients that you've already tried Fizzmustard's Nana Cream clone? If so, what did you think of it?

Try one of these:

5% Bavarian Cream, 1.5% Coconut, 3% Juicy Peach, 1% White Peach

3.5% Sweet Mango, 3% Mango, 2% Strawberry, 1% Juicy Peach, 1% Coconut.

3% Sweet Mango, 2% Mango, 9% Sweet Tea, 1% Dragonfruit, 1% Strawberry

3.5% Sweet Mango, 3% Mango, 3% Strawberry, 3% Watermelon, 1% Coconut, 2% Whipped Cream. (if you decide to make this one let it steep for two weeks).

Thank you for all of that goodness you've suggest! Just made 15ml bottles for every single recipe last night. Will give a try soon, thanks again!

Nana Cream is a bit disappointing for me maybe just not a good profile for me in general. I accidentally bought two bottles of Banana Cream and now I have to realize how else I could use them :)

Please let me know how they work out for you!

Try using the Banana Cream a little at a time with other things. 1% added to the first and fourth recipes suggested above, for example.
