I've been trying to lock down a strong upfront tasting apple, preferably red apple, for an apple pie recipe but most seem pretty subtle and linger in the background. FA Fuji is nice for a base but need another apple to blend with. What I've tried..
FA Fuji- A good base at 1%, have tried all the way up to 4% but don't get much out of it over 1.5%.
INW Two Apples- Tried at 1,2 and 4%, weak to me.
FW Red Apple- This had an upfront strong taste to it that I felt was promising but has an off taste to it that's ok at 2% but at 4% is too much.
CAP Double Apple- Nice red and green mix, good but not quite strong enough. Tried at 2 and 4%
INW Shisha Apple- Nice also, a little stronger than CAP Double Apple.
FA Stark- ok but weak.
Heard good things about INW Anton but think its a green apple, prefer red or a blend. Are there any good candy type apples that would work in a blend with Fuji in an apple pie recipe.. or any ways to boost apple? Tried FA Lemon Sicily at 0.5% and 1%, works ok to bring it up a bit. Tried Pear and Dragonfruit too, no luck.
There are soo many apple flavors out there.

INW 2 apples is kind of weak, I mix it at 4-5% shake n vape in 50/50 pg/vg and noticed it gets weaker with time. You may need slightly more with higher vg or longer time frames
TFA Apple is not great.
INW Anton apple is stronger than the double apple flavor or whatever its called 2% of anton dominated my mix in 50/50. It is a green apple flavor though, and candy like at 2% shake n vape at least. It could be good with fuji idk if it would fit the profile youre going for though. maybe in tiny percents with FA liquid amber. I haven't played with either of the two much
I dont have CAP double apple or INW shisha apple.
I just ordered RF/FA apple, and I really want to try [INW-Wera Garden] Apple as well as medicine flowers apple flavors. Maybe someone else will chime in.
What didn't you like about TFA Apple if I might ask? I'm recently using it in a recipe where I'm looking or a sort of red apple taste/base and I've been using TFA apple in the mix. It's the only other apple I have besides Fuji, green apples, or Apple candy and seems to fill the roll pretty well in the mix, but I'd be interested to find a nice sort of red apple that would fit the bill better than TFA
For baked apple flavor I've had good results combining Fuji with small amounts of INW Bahraini apple gold. Haven't had time to play around with Anton apple yet.
Add a touch of Anise.
A very small amount will do the trick, too much and you stray into INW Bahraini territory (which IMO has the balance wrong and also has elements of licorice). The Anise should brighten the apple and add to the sweetness.
I tried juicing up an aple pie recipe i have that uses Fuji. I used INW Cactus at 0.5%. All i got were very strong anise notes, no apple.
What percent Anise did you use? I only have FA Anise and would probably use 0.1% (1 drop in 20ml) or less. I haven't tried Cactus, was unaware that it contained Anise.
This might be a situation where you have to think outside the box in order to achieve the idea of a "red" apple type of taste. Perhaps a red fruit flavoring paired with enough FA Fuji/FA Apple Pie/TFA Apple Pie or whatever you're already using. I'm thinking a touch something like INW or FA Marzipan, a strawberry, or weaker raspberry at a low enough percentage to add something "red" without taking over. I think FA Fuji is strong enough to stand on top, but that might also be why it's tasting like green apples too. Have you tried a batch not using Fuji? Also, if you're using FA Liquid Amber, that's probably going to push FA Fuji further into the green apple realm if you will.
If you haven't yet, I'd suggest trying /u/Botboy141 's Awesome Apple Pie recipe. It's pretty damn authentic IMO. The bottom recipe with added Biscuit and a touch of extra Fuji blew my mind when I tried it.
Anton apple is a green apple flavor? I got a fleshy red apple from it.
Try playing with a mix of 2.5% fa Fuji and 2.5% Anton. I think it it is a nice blend of the tart crisp fuji and sweet fleshy red apple.
Think I have an apple pie filling flavor nailed down or a Dutch Apple pie recipe
- INw Anton Apple 2.5%
- FA Fuji 2.5%
- FA Liquid amber .5%
- FLV Rich Cinnamon .12 % (1 drop per 15ml)
- TFA Brown Sugar 1%
I've had pretty good luck mixing FA Fuji at 2.5% with TFA Green Apple at 1%.
I've had the opposite experience with these two - shampoo city :( So far the best Fuji mixer I've found is small amounts of TPA pear or pear candy. I'm interested in trying /u/UncleManifestor's Anise suggestion. I wonder if any licorice would work? Horehound?
Personally I hate liquorice, but it should provide a contrast to the sweetness.

I think Anise (in very small amounts) is the key to INW Shisha Strawberry being so delicious and potent, I taste it in there on occasion, so Anise may work with some other fruits too.
