Recipe site chukr.xyz shutting down
submitted almost 9 years ago by jesshewitt

Just wanted to let any chukr users know that the site will be going offline at the end of October.

If you have recipes you'd like to export, you can use the My Stuff > Recipes > Export Recipes as Plain Text button.

Thanks to everyone who used the site, and apologies for any inconvenience the shutdown may cause you.

It's weird because the site seemed to be ahead of it's time or at least had a better set of features than ELR. Honestly I think if it had a better name it probably would have taken off.

Honestly, this is the first I've ever heard of it today.

I've used it here and there for a year or so but it never became my go to for some reason. Most of it's good features have been implemented in Alltheflavors.

I remember a post about it when it went live, tried to find it later on to check it out and could not figure out what the name was. Honestly forgot about it until now

This is horrible news. Is there anything we can do to keep the site up?

The main reason I'm taking the site down is that it was using Mozilla Persona for authentication, which is being discontinued. I did start a total rewrite earlier this year, but ultimately decided it was a waste of time and money to keep the site going since there aren't many active users.

Gotcha. Sad day for me. Chukr has been my exclusive calculator since it launched. Got me off software calculators. Thanks for it while it lasted and good luck in your future endeavors.

Are you willing to release the code?

I'm sure there are people here that would like to contribute to keeping it alive, or use it in their private applications.

I honestly think that someone wanting to create a recipe site/application would be better off starting from scratch than attempting to build on this code base.

Shoot!! Your site was the BEST! Only place I was able to find that awesome brand-to-brand flavour ratio stuff anywhere :-(

Anyone know anywhere else one can do that kind of conversion?

Were the pics any good? I just removed the comment, was wondering if anyone was brave enough to click the link, haha.

Haha. They were just normal pics with some weird caption about saving money or something.
