I have tried to make a few bubble gum flavors but most have come out tasting like grandma's 3 year old hard candy. If you have any input can you help me out?
Even if you have replicated "Dubble Bubble", you will have a special place in my childish heart.
my favorite!
Ok, so a traditional bubble gum base is as follows:
- Vanillin
- WinterGreen
- Fruit of Choice
- Cinnamon
Traditionally ,these were a 1:1 ratio of all 4, but the flavor bases were all equal. However, with our flavors that is quite a bit different. I have found using super small amounts of cinnamon and wintergreen with a much larger amount of vanillin and fruit base works perfectly. For the fruit base, I have been playing with creamy fruits, so I will use like : (TFA) strawberry's and cream, Pineapple, and some (TFA) orange cream, and maybe a touch of sweet cream. These all combined are my "fruit base"
Last time I made this, I used:
2% TFA orange cream
2% TFA pineapple
2% TFA Sweet Cream
.5% TFA cinnamon
1% TFA wintergreen
2% vanillin
This was great at first, but the cinnamon is a little much over time, maybe I need to find a different brand, but its a great starting point, and will surprise you how much its just like a double bubble kind of flavor. I went lower on the vanillin as all of the fruits had some creamy base built in or the sweet cream addition as well.
Let me know what you think, I spent a bit of time researching, and would love some feedback and any changes you made to make it better.
GOOD LUCK
Looks like you've landed on the same formula as HIC: http://vapingunderground.com/threads/hics-pink-bubble-gum.18233/
I haven't mixed yours up, but I have made HIC's and I can confirm, this is a killer bubble-gum mix!
funny, no I didn't... I found it researching original flavor bases for bubblegum. I was not thrilled with any of the Bubblegum flavors out there, and looked for some old school original recipes from the early 1900s... lots of the older candies/gums/treats are very simple flavor combos, you just have to find them.
I kinda considered mine an original, but looks like we all make the same thing :)
Huh. I would never have thought to go cinnamon and wintergreen for bubblegum.
If it's too much over time (the cinnamon, that is), see if nudging it back a bit doesn't help. Some flavors strengthen--CAP caramel did that at .5% to me once over a week and completely overwhelmed the recipe. I cut it by about half for the next batch and it worked much better--maybe cutting the cinnamon will work for you (though I'm a huge fan of cinnamon--it gives a similar feel as the menthols I used to smoke, so I go through obscene amounts of it).
I agree, when I found the recipe, I was like "no way this is going to work" and made it to prove it would suck. It didn't suck.
The cinnamon is a hard flavor to use, its very potent. I am not a patient person, so aging my juice is not generally something I am fond of. I have a few flavors that definitely get better over time, so I make large batches, I just don't consume enough bubble gum over time to justify making even 100ml.. It was spot on for the first few days, and got gradually stronger on the cinnamon. I haven't toyed with it in a while, and likely need to drop it down to .25 and just let it sit for a while, or try some other cinnamon. I think if it had the flavor, but not the "heat" it would be perfect as it is. I just find that if i chain vape it, i get that burn a while that I don't get from bubblegum! then again, I don't have any sweetener in here, that might temper the heat a little.
I still have some of a sampler i made a LONG time ago (almost a year.. yikes) and the cinnamon is definitely the star. it has tempered the heat some, but the flavor is front and center.. maybe try it a bit lower .. .25% or try some other cinnamon, I used TFA, maybe there is one that has more of the flavor with less of the heat?
Cinnamon has a kick, regardless of brand (IMO). I've tried several and haven't found one that doesn't strengthen over time.
FA Cinnamon Ceylon might work--it's truer to the actual spice. It is more of a bakery-type flavor (you'd use cinnamon ceylon in an apple pie recipe, for instance, for true cinnamon without the heat) that relies on other flavors in the recipe for sweetness.
I'd go with your first thought of cutting it back to .25% and if it's still too much, cut it again. Alternatively, give Cinnamon Ceylon a try. maybe? I'm not positive how it'll do, but it may eliminate the heat.
You can also "quick steep" in a crock pot. I've been known to do it with testers, though time will generally bring out flavors far better.
LA or FW Bubblegum is good stuff. I find LA's to be a bit harsh if not balanced correctly, just introduce some marsh and that should take care of it. But those two are the only ones that I've found to give a good "pink" gum flavor. CAP's Bubblegum is Juicyfruit and I hate it.
Inw Donald Bubblegum, if you like authentic bubblegum with powdery feel.. watch review here.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHCAhSF-fZg
What percentage do you mix this at? I tried it but it tasted awful. I'm hoping maybe I just mixed it too high.
Donald's Bubble Gum is horrific i have a big bottle , it's really missing the sweet juicy part and taste EXACTLY like a bubble gum that has lost all it's flavor.
Pluto by Spacejam typically has clones using a bubblegum flavor. However, I have learned that using Double Apple from Capella has the same flavor effect, and actually less of a throat hit. I have yet for anyone to try my Pluto Clone and notice that it doesn't actually have Bubblegum in it's recipe. Double Apple + tiny tiny bit of peppermint = bubblegum.
