When I visit local vape shops and test out new flavors I always like to look through (if available) the list of flavors they have and their descriptions. Very often I would see descriptions of e-juice flavors being different on the inhale compared to the exhale.
For example, a 'Strawberry Kiwi Cream' e-juice... The description might say something like, "Strong strawberry and kiwi on the inhale with a light cream flavor and a hint of raspberry on the exhale."
I've tried so many e-juice's with descriptions like this, but I have never once, with any e-juice (including all the flavors I make myself DIY), experienced different flavors on the inhale vs exhale. For me, the flavor just seems the same overall as I both inhale and exhale.
Do any of you taste specifically different flavors on the inhale vs exhale of e-juice? ...or is this just meant to be like a marketing thing and trying to make the flavor descriptions sound really good and appealing..?
EDIT: I've used all kinds of different setups over the past few years, but these days I use RDAs and RTAs (both) with variable airflow.
- If I take a short draw, then I can taste some flavor on the rest of the inhale, and then flavor on the exhale.
- If I inhale 100% of the vape, then I taste only on the exhale.
- The flavor on the exhale is the same as any inhaled flavor.
- Exhaling through the nose gives the most intense flavor.
> Exhaling through the nose gives the most intense flavor.
Actually inhaling though the nose gives the most intense flavor, but I don't recommend doing it. It burns a little and there's the risk of getting boogers on your drip tip.
I had to have a wisdom tooth cut out. Doctor told me I have "super, super dense bone", also not to smoke for 24? hours. Pfft, Griffin up the nose and hydrocodone!
That's very interesting ! I'm having kind of the same issue where the inhale is pretty weak flavor wise. But by reading your answer I realised I usually do a full vape on inhale. So I tried to do a smaller inhale and keep inhaling air. Unfortunattely it still the same for me (even tho a bit better). What I do is when I inhale, I move my tongue more in front mouth at the spot where the vapor arrive then I get more fruity/top notes
Yup. Totally a real thing.
Pretty heavy in the process of cloning Kilo Dewberry Cream right now. I get strong melon and berry fruits on the inhale, heavy creams in the exhale.
I'm waiting for this.
You get an actual flavor on the inhale, not just the sour/sweet/bitter/salty/umami sensation on the tongue?
What's your vaping style? MTL? DTL?
I think it has more to do with the predominate flavor in the mix hitting your palate first, typically while still inhaling, and then picking up on the supporting/accenting flavors later on in the exhale. Yes, it's a thing and happens to me with some mixes... ie. more complex mixes
I was going to go more in depth, but you basically summed up what I was going to say. The inhale definitely contains the predominant flavor(s) in the mix, but the exhale is where I seem to get the little additions.
Also i think the exhale is meant to go through your Nose with allows you to smell (taste) more flavours then you could just with your Tongue, i think thats the reasons creams are often on the exhale and fruits on the inhale, sweet and sour are easier to taste with the tongue then cream flavours.
I'm the same with you. For me, my experience is, i get the full flavor when the vape hits the nose, which is during the exhale.
On the tongue, usually there are no taste, unless the juice is sweet. But I can sense whether the juice is citrus, gummy or creamy on the tongue.
I'm glad someone posted this. I feel like it's part of the vape review culture that has emerged. I have tried countless juices and if you try you can pull some flavor on the inhale on some juices. MTL hits will give you some flavor on the inhale sometimes. Being able to pick out the different tones and notes on an e-juice is kind of an art. There are different techniques, not unlike wine tasting. I would like to see some reviewers go over this.
When I use vanillin I tend to get a the vanilla on the exhale, but it's very subtle. That's about the only time I've experienced it.
Sometimes a smell is more prominent but then fades and makes others more noticeable.
I think certain flavorings may be more noticeable (easily smelled) at room temp and as the coils get hotter or something then maybe other "tastes" become more apparent.
Fruit flavored juices can be smelled through the mouthpiece of all my devices and I imagine that the initial smelling of the vape as you hold it to your face has impact on what you taste, as well.
I've thought on this topic too.. but im different because I do notice some things more as I inhale and others as I exhale, and still more throughout the completion of the exhale.
I have no idea what really goes on and these are just a few random thoughts that come to mind on this subject.
Whenever I review e-juices I always mention inhale vs exhale taste. I have a pretty light palette so I should taste most juices on inhale but I don't. It is always exhale when I notice the flavors or the lack of. I almost NEVER find a juice that tastes exactly as advertised and I have gone through a good number of juice on my small channel.
I mainly use heavy airflow RDA's so that might affect it, but I need clouds with the taste or I feel like I'm not vaping.
Im along the same line of thinking as u/prime1ndustries it seems to be a case of whatever flavor is stronger/more prominent will hit the palet first. On some flavors, generally more complex ones i will get a very distinct wow factor where itll be almost a 1-2 punch. i'll get blasted with one flavor then another. As an example, minty way from odyssey vapors is one of my favorite juices. Thats a spectacular mint chocolate chip icecream, off the bat you get smacked by a tasty menthol(not icy but smooth) and vanilla followed by a dry chocolate just like if you were actually eating it.
Im currently trying to make my own perfect Strawberry Custard/Cream/Cake/Milk/Ice and i am really starting to see differences in Inhale and Exhale, for example Cap Sweet Strawberry with Cap V. Custard makes a very sweet Strawberry on the INhale with only slight hints of cream but is pretty creamy on the exhale with only slight hints of sweet berry. It is the only Diy Mix that i consider okay (from the ones i made) so im unsure about the rest but with this flavour i definetly get a different exhale then inhale :)
Read this.
What most people believe about taste is totally wrong, and actual science exists on the subject.
I pretty much only get flavors on the exhale. not sure if I have vaper's tongue really bad or what, but I only notice a sweetness on the way in or a tartness like with ripe strawberry, but everything else I get with the exhale since I exhale through my nose and mouth.
