CAP funnel cake, AKA CAP funnel crap
submitted about 9 years ago by Ziynik

So, I've searched the side bar, and found nothing of sustainable use to my problem that is CAP funnel cake.

This flavour is in my opinion a steaming sack of dog shit. But let me explain. I picked this up for my love of funnel cakes. Tried mixing it in a simple blend of creams, marshmallow, and basically nice complimentary smoothing flavours, and for the life of me I can't get this to taste good!

It tastes like a batch of used fryer oil that a McDonald's employee stuck their foot in after a long days work of fucking up orders. And that's not a nice flavour to have.

I've thrown out many strips of cotton due to this ballsack reminiscent concentrate, its HORRIBLE!

Has anyone had any luck with this gem? While my body says no, my heart says yes, and I'm praying that someone has they key to unlocking this nasty son of a bitch to taste semi decent.

IN THEORY:

I've thought about tossing this in with some horchata, giving a fried cinnamon milky groove, but I honestly can't part with my horchata if I don't think it'll be a nice flavour, I love that shit too much to pull a fast one on it.

Fruits? I need something to dull this intense saturation of disgust, I was thinking a raspberry would help dull the pungent punch it packs, however I'm at a loss percentage wise.

Menthol? Yep, you god damn read right, I'm desperate enough to try it with some menthol, while I do also believe I'll vomit my soul up if I even uncap the two flavours in the same room, maybe there's a silver lining to this thought and I just haven't found it yet.

Anise? Now, if any of you are Italian, or have enjoyed the popular Christmas themed cookie called Pizzelle(if you haven't had this, seriously, go find an Italian grandmother and have her make it for you, it's delicious, light, crunchy, and fucking tasty) now Pizzelle has two dominant flavours, anise, and almond, with a light biscuit crunch at the end, and I think, mixed correctly, funnel cake would do a great job resembling that, but again, when I use this flavour, no matter the percent, it just seems to dominate the juice in an off putting manner.

CONCLUSION:

I need the help of four soul singing choir groups, three troops of Gordon Ramsey's hair line, and a single strand of ball hair from Jesus Christ himself. And you best believe you all harness that power. Honestly, any help would be appreciated guys! This is an issue I've been struggling with for like a month and I've scoured the forums here, and on almost every platform available with no concrete answers. DO IT FOR HARAMBE.

Haha, thanks man! I figure since this community tends to my needs as I ask questions, I should at least try to give back by providing a semi-readable post that won't bore the reader into a coma!

Uh the best tasting funnel cake I made with it was (on my phone so incoming shit formatting)

*CAP Funnel Cake 5% *CAP Sugar Cookie 3% *CAP Vanilla Custard V1 2% *FA Meringue 2% *FA Joy 1%

The fried bread taste in CAP FC is pretty heavy. Give the custard and sugar cookie about 5 days to settle. The Joy turns the bread a little doughy and the meringue into powdered sugar. It's not the best recipe but it was decent. A bit heavy for my taste.

Bought a 15ml bottle of it last week, only had to use it once to know it's not for me.

Tastes like CAP Donut, but worse. That's hard to do.

I have had great results with it. CAP Funnel Cake is the base ingredient in both my funnel cake, and fried apple pie (which I have yet to publish)

I use it at 5% with 3% Fuji FA and 1% BrowN Sugar Extra and a drop of rich cinnamon. In my rotation constantly.

Personally, I find 5% to be super high for my taste profile, it makes me gag!

by cloudstatevaporabout 9 years agoMixologist

I hated it on it's own too but the apple/sugar combo pushes it to the back. Maybe try 2-3% to start and see if you like it.

by wh1skeyk1ngabout 9 years agoThanks for reading this flair

Honestly, how long did you let it steep? Some flavors take a while for the butt taste to go away, although for some people and some flavors, it just might be butt tasting forever. Hate vape it anyway.

Also, what % are you using it at? An actual recipe or two would help.

On another note, I've cleaned up some mixes over night with 1% INW Raspberry and 0.5% INW Cactus. Had another one that needed 4% FA Joy and 1% FA Cinnamon Ceylon mixed separately and blended 50/50 with the tainted one.

I'm a firm believer that just about anything can be saved if you're willing to risk wasting a buck worth of supplies. I'm probably a bit more of a cheap ass than others though, and I'll vape anything I've made. Honestly, since I've started DIY, the only things I remember dumping out were "premium" juices so I could have the empty bottle for mixing. Steeping 1 month or more has allowed some of my crappy stuff to be pretty decent.

I actually let it steep for longer than I do most of my blends(3-4weeks), mainly because I really wanted this to work, off hand I don't have the recipes but I know I had some marshmallow, meringue, and vanilla bean ice cream in there(those flavours are great.) I believe I used the funnel cake around 4-5% with the others down played a bit as more structuring notes. Eventually, I'll get around to tossing the funnel cake in a future mix, but as of now, I can't stand the thought of it, everything from flavour testing by itself, to a basic mix, I just can't find light in this flavour!

News flash: just because you enjoy eating it doesn't mean you need to vape it. I like spaghetti but I really don't think vaping a spaghetti flavor would be any good lol. (Please don't take this too serious)

What horchata do you use? Recommend a recipe? I'm on a horchata kick lately.

I've had good luck with TPAs horchata! Check out an awesome recipe called "Muon Gold" on ELR I've had nice results with that, I'd link you to it but I'm on mobile so those capabilities are out the window unfortunately.

Sorry for spam commenting but I also recommend leaving out the cinnamon danish, my personal preference, you get more of the horchata shining through. Same goes for the chai tea, if you want, leave it out too, still a good flavour! Just boost the horchata % via your taste!

This is the single best post I've ever read, lol. That being said, I too got it in and was so disappointed. My first reaction was, "Well, if they felt they didn't nail play-dough with their donuts, they sure as sh*t got it right on this funnel cake." I gave it another whiff this afternoon, for shits and giggles, and caught an aspect that seemed useful and perhaps even tasty. From what I smelled, It seemed like it might play nicely as a "fried" aspect for a recipe. I feel your line of thinking with a pizzelle is right on track with what kind of directions to take this sort of ingredient. I imagine a light touch of cinnamon would go real well with this one.

I wish to join you on your quest to find a good use for this ingredient.

Side question: How do you feel about banana?

2 points

by Ziynikabout 9 years ago

Ah, we think like-minded! And in all honesty I've never had banana in a vape before! I love bananas in real life, I eat them almost every morning, not knowing how a banana flavour would pan out made me weary of trying it as to not taint my love of the real fruit hahaha, but it's something I've always wanted to try my hand in! And I think that a creamy texture flavour of a banana could definitely help this one out for sure

2 points

by CheebaSteebaabout 9 years agoFrugivore

Probably a good idea to avoid it, as it can be a very unforgiving profile. A bad banana vape can turn you off of bananas for good. One profile I have been thinking of for a while is a fried banana with ice cream and butterscotch. I have a good butterscotch banana frozen custard, but if you add a fried element to it, who knows how good that could be.

Also, if you haven't already, you should check out TFA Banana Cream. As someone who's tried a lot of bananas, it's easily one of the more accessible and forgiving bananas on the market.

So far my first iteration, Fried BBC (lol), is... interesting. Kind of weird, kind of tasty. Not sure if it's an improvement or not on the butterscotch banana custard, but I am excited to see where the steep takes it. The fried element is coming through a little bit, but not quite as much as I would like. I didn't think I'd be saying this, but I think I need to take the % a little higher on the CAP Funnel Cake

I like CAP Funnel Cake. My favorite recipe is Circus Cobbler

Also have seen it in several donut recipes.
