Mixing Contest!
submitted about 9 years ago by thattswhatshesaid

UPDATE
u/gremlinjuice has stepped forward and will be the very first vendor to sponsor the club and our New Year's mixing competition. They have graciously offered to award the winner a $50 store credit to Gremlin DIY. This award will come direct from them to the winner of the contest and I am eternally grateful to them for lending company support to us. They are a staple in DIY, and a pleasure to work with in any capacity. Please support those who support us and head on over to Gremlin DIY for all your DIY needs.
As of 9/25/2016 the prize for the contest is:
$50 store credit to Gremlin DIY
$50 gift certificate to a DIY vendor of the winner's choosing
Gremlin will also be participating in the exchange itself and their lead mixer will be submitting recipes! It's going to be a blast, and I can't wait. It's incredibly gracious of them to share the formulas that they were unable to bring to market.

Contest Details
We are having a mixing contest over at r/mixersclub, best recipe wins a $50 gift certificate to a DIY vendor of the winner's choosing as well as $50 store credit to Gremlin DIY.
How to Participate

  1. Head over to r/mixersclub and follow our participation guidelines. They're short and sweet.
  2. That's it! Participate in the exchange, submit your best original recipes, and the community will score your samples distributed. We will aggregate these scores and the mixer of the highest overall scored recipe wins. Every time you participate your odds of winning increase and every submission distributed is an entry. The exchange is small at this point and your chances are excellent.
    Complete Contest Guidelines and Information
The quality of the club that makes it unique is that everyone receives the same number of critiques, always. If you submit a single recipe one month, that recipe will receive four critiques and sets of scores because it is a requirement of all who participate to leave feedback on the samples they have received. You don't need to hype your recipe or advertise- if the recipe is good the club will do it for you. Even if you don't win, you will have received feedback and packs of samples from other members.
New and old mixers are welcome alike.
I want to thank the mods for allowing me to post here. I think a lot of good content will come out, and it helps the exchange we run. Good luck everyone! :)

Not too go into too much detail, but I'm super wary of this.

/r/mixersclub : less hand a month old. I did a massive exchange last year and me and a A LOT of people got screwed. I know this is a contest, but still super wary of doing anything.

/u/thattswhatshesaid : No offence, but I don't know you. You have been around for 3 months, only have 150 comment karma (as of right now) and 83 post karma. There is not much to go on there, it's not a well established history.

From what I'm reading it's going to be us sending the organizer(s) the juice and then they send it out to other people. There is going to be no accountability for getting the juice to other members and verification of places it's being sent.

I'm trying to be the last man out here and just say, be careful. This already has some of the same tells that I had to deal with back over on /r/ECR_Exchange/ where the organizer walked away with AT LEAST, 1500 ml of juice and gear, and I had to report to authorities.

I caution anyone who is entering this to be wary.

Otherwise, and giving the benefit of the doubt: Good luck.

I totally understand your concerns which is why I messaged the mods here first before posting, and addressed what could easily be perceived as a lack of legitimacy at this point. We are on the verge of our first exchange, hopefully that helps put people at ease, but I totally understand any reservations like I said. I didn't expect them to give me the green light as they are very strict on issues and offers like this, but I addressed those concerns with them and wanted to start a dialogue about how we can establish ourselves even if I wasn't allowed to post the contest just yet. But they gave me the green light, and I want to take that opportunity to promote this because I have confidence that it's a solid concept and I am executing it myself so I have no concerns about the logistical end- it's already figured out. It's an offer- no one is required to participate obviously, and all the materials to participate are pennies' worth in supplies. I put my own money up for this, and for the club PO box, I have no interest in scamming anyone. If I was attempting a scam it wouldn't be for tiny samples of DIY ejuice. I just saw an opportunity to do something cool that will (hopefully) help the community and so I'm seizing it. No one will ever be asked to send anything of value greater than a few 10ml bottles and postage. But I totally understand what you're saying, and appreciate you addressing these concerns as I think it's something that would naturally run through anyone's mind.

I like the idea, I hope you guys can get some participation going. One word of advice. I would make sure any samples coming to you, have a Photo ID attached to them, or some way of tracking that sample to a physical person. You don't want to be inhaling something a random internet person sends you, without any form of collateral if something goes wrong. Good luck!

Thank you so much Wayne! Really appreciate your comments and it's something we will discuss! Big fan of your work and very happy to have had my questions answered two Fridays ago on the podcast, hope you would like to be involved one day, or maybe even participate!

Thanks Wayne! I watch your stuff all the time and it's a thrill to have you comment on this. Yeah, that's definitely something I've thought about and I've been trying to anticipate problems before they arise. I have everyone's full name and address but that's obviously not a very good fail safe. These are all really good questions and suggestions. I have no problem offering up my information, and maybe that would help ease people as well, but others may feel differently. It's a question I'll throw out to the community and see what they're thoughts are on the issue, and come up with something.

I completely understand your concerns, we have not been on Reddit for long, I'm the other moderator on r/mixersclub, all submissions get sent to our po box, and it's only 4x10ml bottles per submission, which are DIY with 0 nicotine, the whole point of our exchange each month is to be able to taste others recipes, and maybe find something different to mix up, to expand people horizons within the DIY community! Of course we are also wary of things like people walking away with the gear. We had a distributor this month, and as far as I know everything this month has went well. Now there has been something happened and we are no longer distributing through that person and between me and u/thattswhatshesaid we are the only two involved, neither of this are in it for personal gain other than experiencing new DIY things! Therefore there has to be a level of trust and asking people to trust someone random on the internet, it's a big ask which you have experienced before, and that trust has been betrayed. We are made by the community and for the community.

We too are wary of things like this, and share your concerns ourselfs

I also forgot to mention that the PO Box is registered under my name and my name only. They're very strict about ID and I had to provide my passport and state ID. I hope these things can reassure you guys but I'm confident we'll have a good exchange and everyone in DIY will see that soon enough.

Is that the right subreddit? 34 subscriptions?

Yes. We've only been doing this for one month

yup we're brand new, but we have a really good ratio of subscribers to actual participants. I think have about eight mixers participating for October right now (that I know of, or have spoken to me) which is massive for something that's 25 days old. I hope the contest can draw people in to the club- it really is a great concept for people trying to receive feedback on their recipes

I'm going to sub and monitor for a bit, kind of getting the cliquey vibe from it at first glance but I won't write you off completely!

Ha, I think it may come off as cliquey because there's only about ten people actively participating in the forums and exchange right now so you'll see a lot of the same names. I would love to see more posts and submissions from other people though. Hope you enjoy lurking :)

I'm sub'd and looking forward to getting some criticism from complete strangers who are not uhsceered of me, lol.

I love to mix up a potent black licorice, mint, black cherry ejuice at like 30% and watch my friends lie to me "how good it is" whilst gagging on that sht! ~I will miss that~ :|

Yeah, the feedback is really the biggest draw for most people and getting samples seems to just be a bonus, as well as other features such as contests, gifts, etc. Ha, reminds me of forcing my partner to test my first recipes. She's a champ about it though

Exactly! I'm definitely not a pro, but have some pretty fair recipes, and would could certainly stand to learn from the opinions of others. Tasting other peoples recipes should be equally rewarding. Have a great day! :)

ETA: Removed joke after reading other posts, was unintentionally sounding like an a-hole. Context was related to my memories of a different forum several years ago. My apologies if I offended anyone!
