If you're anything like me, you probably wanted to make a PixyStix, Razzles, Nerds or SweetTarts juice at some point.
And, if you're anything like me, you've punched more than a few holes in the wall in impotent frustration as a result. You should know that it's not you, it's your flavors. It happens to all mixers at some point. It's not a big deal. It's cool, really. We can just cuddle (and talk dirty, I hope).
Anyway, I'm rocking 8 wraps, kanthal, on a 2.0mm single, spaced coil, at around 20 watts on an RTA. I explored it up to 30 for this review, but I'm always around 18-23 watts tops. I feel weird even disclosing that, because it feels like a dirty secret, but I realize it's important for flavor reviews, so, here I am. This is me. I like high builds and I cannot lie, and battery life can't be denied.
3% after a 3-day steep - Dear jesus, this is awful. I might actually go to my next High School reunion and waste some of this this on some bottom-shelf plastic-jug vodka with TFA Grape Juice or FW Grapeberry Ice and tell 'em it's Everclear Purple Passion! LOL!
But seriously, Everything said about this flavor is 100% true, BUT... it's worth noting that if you already have this flavor, you kind of can work with it, and make something sorta' vapeable. The secret? A 10-day steep.
Is it still chalky/powdery? Yes, but in exactly the way that Razzles, SweetTarts, PixyStix and all that other bullshit candy is. Before that, it's hellacious. Bitter, harsh and noxious. After that? No moreso than the junk candies it's trying to emulate already are.
To see what I mean, try this:
5% FA Forest Fruit
2% FW Sour
3% TPA SweetTANGY
Mix it at 70/30 VG/PG, shake the hell out of it, DO NOT heat/breathe-steep it, just close it up tight, hide it somewhere temperate and dark, and come back to it in 10 days or so after another good shake. It's a dead-nuts-on Sour Berry SweetTart.
Is it great? Nope. Is it good? Yeah, actually. Better than any premium SweetTart-type juice I've bought.
There are a million tastier things you can mix up out there, but as far as that powdery junk candy? You can't do better than TFA SweetTANGY.
Sour just doesn't translate into ejuice yet. As /u/enyawreklaw has already explained. For now, this'll do. 4-stars from me, with all aforementioned reservations.
If you don't already have this flavor, seriously, don't buy it for this. It's gah-bige, as my people would say. Take that FA Forest Fruit and use it it any one of a bah-zillion better recipes.
I hope this review is helpful to all the poor suckers, like me, who bought this, hoping for a sour junk-candy vape.
I've never heard of this, is it new? Sweet and Tart smells like straight sweet tart candy but I haven't tried mixing with it yet.
People say that SweeTangy doesn't exist or is the same thing as TFA Sweet and Tart. Thing is, I have vaped both of these side by side at the same percentages and they are different formulations for sure. Idk wtf is going on there, but they do taste differently.
Edit: I got SweeTangy from ECX (Signature flavors).
Yeah, my SweetTangy is from ECX, too. Is Sweet & Tangy as dry/chalky as SweetTangy?
The chalky-ness is about the same for both. SweeTangy has more of an initial bite then Sweet and Tart, though (which turns out more like smarties).
edit: my Sweet and Tart was from Wizard Labs, btw.
Edit2: Oh and ECX was the only one carrying this 'SweeTangy' (whatever it actually is) at the time a year ago and they are the only ones that seem to have it now.
Thanks for the review! Unfortunately, I already have this and never even bothered to use it in a mix. I was so turned off by it.
I tested this at 3%, after 7 days and only described it as CHALK.
A simple recipe that I've been doing. Both are TFA flavors.
15% Double Kiwi
2-3% Sweet and Tart
I do it at a 70/30 vg/pg with 3mg nic. Comes out pretty tasty, and is shake and vape worthy. Definitely better after some steep time, but good enough if you're out of juice and need a quick batch.
Edit: Also, I do use a hotplate magnetic mixer. Not sure if that makes a difference in the end product. I like to think it does, but I haven't bothered mixing any of my recipes without it to compare.
Woah, you're from Dorchester? Ha, I'm right by St. Marks
I went to St. Ambrose from 1st-8th grade!
Jesus- what are the odds. A fellow hoodrat who also happened to suffer through catholic school as well.. would it be too much if I asked you how old you are? (ballpark) you're saying St. Ambrose and not Pope John Paul xyz so you must've gone before they restructured the churches. Pretty decent chance you know me or one of my siblings
I'm 43, and lived in Dot for the first 26 years of my life, so I went to school and work all over there through the 80's and 90's if that narrows it down any.
And "suffered through" catholic school is accurate AF. They were still allowed to do you bodily harm back then! I still have tiny, half-moon scars on the underside of my upper arm where Sr. Bridget's vicious, pointy nails broke the skin, man!
I tried many times making a sweet tart recipe and it always falls short. As you stated sour doesnt really come through much. I find that FLV Lime in small doses (.25 or even less) imparts a tartness into juices. The problem is the flavor it brings has to be married to a citrus based flavor for it to really work well.
I got an order of ascorbic acid from NN and have my fingers crossed it will add some sourness to my ejuices.
Thanks for the flavor review btw.
TYVM for the review!
My pleasure! I was grudgingly hate-vaping this recipe when it surprised me with the turn at the 10 day mark. Still not a great recipe, by any means, but, I thought that problematic flavor was worth revisiting for improving at all.
I'd love nothing more than to be able to make it work with a grape flavor for a PixyStix thing, but, haven't cracked it yet. For now Forest Fruit plays well enough with it to scratch that grapey-powder-candy itch for me.
This is your first flavor review, right? I hope there are more to come. Your writing is a pleasure to read.
Wow, thanks! Yeah, I'd love to do more of them, but, the truth is I am very, very bad about single flavor tests. This particular flavor just struck me as one that would never get reviewed, but still had some redeeming qualities.
I do, however, have 2 tobacco flavors sitting at 3%, just waiting out a 1-month steep, so, if they don't get done before that, I'll happily review them.
How horrible of a person does it make me that I hope they're terrible tobacco flavors, because that would be the most fun to read about? I shouldn't wish that on anyone, but I do. Please forgive me.
Thanks for doing this one in particular: Reviews of overlooked, difficult, and just plain bad flavors seem more valuable to the community to me than the reviews of common, versatile, and yummy ones.
Haha! You're not terrible at all! I'm actually really super scared of tobacco flavors, so this is a big leap of faith for me.
My first and last experience with them was in 2012 or so. I tried two juices; and both had that truly horrifying perfumed, barber shop talc note that put me off tobaccos completely.
I mean, I've mixed with RY4 Double, but, I don't really count that as a 'bacco so much as a bakery, but these two definitely smell like tobaccos, so, we'll see if my reviews turn out to be pure excitement or just a series of onomatopoeia gagging noises.
