Hello Chaps.
Recieved my Starter kid for Liquid Barn last week. Basically just mixing 1 flavor at a time and tasting to see how and what use. My question lies in, I am not sure how to properly keep notes on flavors.
Realistically, I wont know how each individual flavor will react to others untill i mix them correct? I tend to vape anywhere from 30 - 65 watt and the one flavor mixtures change drastically and I am not sure if that is common and should be in my notes or if that is the result of the coils. Just a little insight on how others keep notes would be helpful.
Thank You
This might also be very helpful I know it helped me.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/4hioh5/modest_monday_single_flavor_testing_setup/
And nothing against liquid barn but don't be disappointed if the flavors are not amazing I personally have not found anything from them I like.
I understand i need to step past LB and get flavors from different companies but I am keeping my budget in the 50's per month for right now. next month 10 or 12 flavors. Might take advice i have seen around here and get flavors based on recipes. Once again the process should be 5ml batches with each flavoring so i know how to broaden my scope and what I can mess around with when I start out on my own. Which is why I asked the question. Thanks for this piece, should be invaluable.
The best way to get insight into how others keep notes is reading the notes made by those who've been generous enough to share theirs with us: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/wiki/index/flavor_reviews
your personal tips and tricks to keeping fruit flavors longer?
Gonna need more info than this. Keeping them longer as in storage of concentrates? Are you talking about fruit flavors dying out in a recipe?
People here love to help newbies, but for the love of god, please help us help you by not giving us such a vague question!
Made a big batch of 120ml. Looks like after a week it started to mute or lose flavor. Im wondering how i can keep em flavorful longer. Any secret tips and tricks. Besides keeping the sealed.
I want to make this but INW is nonexistant in my country, what can i use instead from FW, CAP, TPA, etc?
You won't be able to make something very close to that without INW, but here is a simple two-ingredient recipe that might satisfy your desire to mix lemon with pastry, /u/EdibleMalfunction's Lemon Cookie: 6% CAP Sugar Cookie, 4% CAP Italian Lemon Sicily.
Just getting into DIY and placed my first order. No problems with bases and first order flavours after following your guide, but my hardware seems a little light.
I'll measure by weight as recommended, so for my first 100ml ejuice (following a recipe!) I've ordered:
- Scales
- 100ml bottle (x10)
- Disposable pipette (x50)
- Funnel
As far as I've worked out, that's all I'll need for now to mix 100ml comfortably. I'll buy more stuff if I get into making my own, but am I missing anything for just 100ml following a recipe?
Something like these for your PG and VG will make your life much easier.
No need for a funnel really unless you can tell me you have a specific reason for one that I may not be thinking of.
Generally, I wouldn't suggest starting out making 100mL of any recipe because if you don't like it, that's a lot of waste for a beginner. 30mL is the way to go. These are great bottles and pretty cheap at 30 cents a pop for 100.
What recipe will you be making?
OK 30ml it is. And I'm from the UK but will look for similar items from UK vendors, thanks!
I'm making a recipe from e-liquid-recipes.com, either Mothers Unicorn Milk or strawnana custard. I signed up to the website recommended in the guide, but the recipes aren't really rated so don't know how good they are.
I just started mixing a week ago. I finally had time to mix up a recipe rather than just a couple of flavors. I tried a unicorn milk clone that has high ratings. After vigorous shaking and letting it sit in warm water for a little bit I decided to taste it. I taste way too much strawberry. Does steeping it truly change the flavor that much? Should I just come back to it in a week? Also does anyone have a similar recipe but with very little strawberry? Like I just want a hint of it amidst the creamy flavors.
Edit: this is the one I used: http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/255064/INTERNAL+LEAK+OF+CUTWOOK+UNICORN+MILK
It will definitely calm down by tomorrow night. Strawberry and many other fruit flavors contain very tiny volatiles that tend to give a sharp taste or harsh throat hit. Steeping helps to alleviate that, while also giving the larger volatiles in your creams time to develop.
Also, heating your juice is not really recommended here and may ruin/taint your mix. Aging/steeping in the back of your cupboard, out of light, and in a relatively cool place after a good shaking is best.
I would say if you want to vape some of it sooner, shake the mix and pour some into another container and leave the cap loose overnight. This should help some of the volatiles contributing to the sharpness to escape through the top. I wouldn't do it to the whole bottle though, you might end up losing the strawberry flavor completely after a week.
Thank you, that was very helpful! I wasn't sure about the heating so that's good to know. I'll leave the bottle in the cupboard for a week and do what you said to a small amount of it to see how it tastes tomorrow. I remember unicorn milk being one of the only store flavors I ever truly liked so I hope I can like my mix as much. I typically don't like fruity though, at all.
I came to add that if you are disappointed in that clone, I can vouch for this. 2 week steep is best IMO. I know it's prob a lot of ingredients that you may not have picked up yet, but all of them I consider staples for anyone's stash.
And a similiar one called Ole Nessie that I cant seem to find is pretty dang good too.
Edit: Found it.
Hey guys. I have several questions if you can help me it'd be greatly appreciated. So I order my nicotine in 100% pg base, how much should I add to my juice to have an 80% vg level with .3 nic ? Generally speaking, what's the best level between pg/vg for maximum flavor? And my grand question, what recipes (preferably dessert ones) can I make with the following flavors, all from tfa?
- Banana Nut Bread Flavor
- Bavarian Cream Flavor
- Brown Sugar Flavor
- Caramel (Original) Flavor
- Cheesecake (Graham Crust)
- Cheesecake Flavor
- French Vanilla Creme
- Pineapple Flavor
- Vanilla Custard Flavor
- Vanilla Swirl Flavor
Vanilla Custard @6% Brown sugar @.25% Caramel @.25% Nice quick and easy when you want something like a dessert but don't want to put up with all the fuss.
As far as the PG question goes you can use an e-juice calculator like: e-liquidrecipes.com or alltheflavors.com and you put in your nicotine strength and 100% PG and then you put in your desired Finishing strength and PG/VG ratio with the flavors and it will calculate that for you. Easiest way to go about that.
As far as which ratio is best it honestly depends on your flavor preferences and what flavor you are mixing. It is just something you will mess around with and find what you like. Personally I mix max VG and don't have a flavor problem, but find what works for you.
Good luck on your journey, mate!
Amazing advice. Thank you. I can't wait to try the mix!
I heard pg is the best flavor holder so that's why I want to try 80/20 mixes.
PG does hold flavor better than VG but I have a sensitivity to it so I can't use it more than 10% VG can hold flavors well they just take a little more flavor and a little bit longer to steep. I think you're not far off on 80/20 70/30 isn't bad either if you're used to commercial juice
If you like banana nut bread, I would do this:
TFA Banana Nut Bread 7%
TFA vanilla swirl 2%
TFA caramel original 1.5%
TFA brown sugar 0.5%
Just ordered nicotine from Carolina xtract last night. How long does it take them to ship usually? Ive heard they are usually pretty quick but just curious of others experiences
Hello, I hope I'm not asking a stupid question here, but when determining vg/pg ratio, this is how I've done it so far. First batch, I aimed for 90%vg/10%pg. My flavors are suspended in pg, so I did 5% one flavor, 5% the other flavor, then the rest vg. Is that correct? Second batch I aimed for 80/20, so I did 10% one flavor, 5% another, and 5% regular pg and the rest was vg. I haven't started using nicotine yet, just trying to get the flavors down first. So again, am I doing this correctly? Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!
Yes you are doing it correctly. Flavors suspended in PG count towards your PG percentage. If you're aiming for 80vg/20pg and your flavors add up to 10% then you will add an additional 10% PG to hit your desired ratio of 80/20. 10% is quite a lot for any single flavor, though. At least for me it's a bit high
Hello Vapers! I would like to start mixing my juice, so I bought a few flavors I might like, but I don't know how should I mix them to get some tasty juices. I tried them one by one, but now i would like to try some more complex mixes. So i got these: New Vanilla Cupcake V2 (CAP) DX Bavarian Cream (TPA) Black Cherry (TPA) DX Sweet Cream (TPA) Strawberry and Cream (TPA) Acai (TPA) Blackberry (TPA) Organic Strawberry (TPA) Yellow Cupcake (FW) Nugat (INW) Golden Pineapple (CAP) Marshmallow (CAP) Cheesecake (TPA) Double Chocolate (Clear) (TPA) Raspberry (FW) Thanks for your help!
This is the thread you're looking for.
i haven't been able to get it to work. i must be doing something wrong.
i've created an account, added my flavors, and searched by "what can I make."
regardless of what I checkmark (even if it's only a single flavor,) it returns 0 results.
argh
With winter on the way I was wondering if I should increase my PG ratio to combat the thicker viscosity of cold juice. I'm using the Griffin 25 and I am current mixing 80/20 VG to PG. Concerned about dry hits caused by slower wicking. Is this something to be concerned about?
If I'm making a lot of juice for me and my friends without nicotine let's say, 1 litter per flavor. How do I store the mix? Also, how do I store the nicotine? I live in a very hot and humid city.
Heat, light and oxygen are your enemies. Glass is the best container and storing it properly sealed in a closed cupboard will be enough to keep things in good condition. As for nicotine, it's usually advised to use a small bottle for mixing and putting the rest in the freezer.
Thank you. Hope you can help me a little bit more. Wouldn't putting it inside the cupboard be hot as well? Why not the fridge for the mixes if heat is bad?
As for nicotine, I suppose putting it in the freezer helps it not steeping by itself? If I do that, nicotine won't get frozen?
Edit: One more question, how do you clean the glass bottles you buy? I usually boil them in water but is that enough?
Depends how hot it gets. As long as it's never in direct sunlight it's probably fine, but it won't hurt to keep it in the fridge if you want to be safe. You may need to shake it up more before use though due to flavor separation.
The main reason nicotine gets ruined is exposure to oxygen. Keeping it in the freezer slows down the reaction significantly, making it last longer. If you also keep the bottle(s) topped up or use an inert gas to remove the oxygen, it will last forever. But it never actually freezes, it just becomes super viscous. Frozen PG is much thicker than room temp VG.
How to best clean bottles is constantly debated here, do a search :) It depends how careful you want to be and seeing as you're sharing with friends it might be worth going the extra mile. Especially living in hot and humid conditions where bacteria will thrive. Rather safe than sorry.
I Followed this recipe I would like more of a cheesecake flavor. My go to company to go with is CAP but I'm not sure if it has the rich cheese cake flavor I am looking for.
I have 3 flavor concentrates, tfa ripe strawberry, tfa apple, and tfa watermelon. I got these flavors because I know a local vape shop that makes an amazing "melon strapple". I just wanted to know if anyone knows a good ratio for the three that might make a really good flavor. I dont like the smell of the apple as much as the others so maybe one that has less apple. Id also like to make it 3mg/ml nic if that changes the recipe
As a starting point:
6% Strawberry Ripe
3% Apple
2% Watermelon
TFA Watermelon can be quite strong and that Apple is kind of weak. Strawberry Ripe is about moderate strength. So that should give you mostly strawberry and some watermelon upfront with a bit of apple in the background. Mix up 10-15mL and see how you like it and adjust from there.
In the future you may want to pick up regular TFA Strawberry, it's a brighter and more synthetic/candy-like and IMO, works better in these types of recipes.
I recommend FA Fuji Apple, Red Touch (strawberry), and Red Summer (watermelon) for this. But with the flavors you have, try the percents that /u/BuryMeInSmoke suggested.
what percentages would you recommend as a starting point for once I get these flavors?
Mixed together? These percentages: https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/6487#strap_on_by_id10_t
2% FA Fuji, 3% each FA Red Touch (Strawberry) and FA Red Summer (Watermelon).
I make this all the time. Although, I usually add one additional flavor to it, which varies depending on what I'm in the mood for. Also, you might prefer it with less apple and more strawberry and/or watermelon - you could drop the apple as low as 1% and increase the strawberry and/or watermelon as high as 4%. Strawberry-Apple-Watermelon is a versatile profile that's fun to play around with.
When mixing everything together. What do you all do to pour and measure the vegetable glycerin? I bought this from Amazon and it's thick. Should I keep it at room temperature? Should I heat it a tad to decrease the viscosity? I couldn't use a syringe on it nor could I use a funnel to pour it into my flask.
Mix by weight, grab a few of the condiment-style bottles with the Yorker caps, place yorker cap on top of the stock VG bottle. Then squeeze. The day I found out that those caps fit those bottles was a miracle day
Found this! I didn't see just the caps so I figured I can just transfer the VG & PG into these. Thanks!
I just got my order, wooo! I have a question. I am using a calculator app, and I understand all of it except the "water percentage". What is that? It's defaulted to 10% but I can change it. Am I supposed to add water to my mix, or what am I missing here?
I just smelled my concentrates that I got with my first order and I can't wait to get started. The NY cheesecake is the exact one I was looking for, and so is the toasted marshmallow. I apparently ordered 4oz of the TFA Bavarian cream. I thought I only ordered little ones to sample. I'm not complaining thought, it smells fucking heavenly! Are there any simple Bavarian cream mixes? Can I vape it on its' own? I also got vanilla bean gelato (TFA), TFA Toasted marshnallow, TFA sweet cream, TFA cheesecake gragam crust, TFA butterscotch, CAP sugar cookie, and CAP NY Cheesecake.
Thanks in advance! As you can tell I am not a fruit lover, but love the creamy, milky, sweet flavors.
I'm glad you brought that up. I've found that a 10% distilled water helps to carry the flavor quite well. It's something I've been experimenting with lately and I have to say I'm a fan so far. Especially if you are mixing with a ratio of VG at 60 or higher. Happy Mixing, hope that helps.
Thanks. I only bought VG. I've had others say it's better to just use PG instead of water. I don't have any yet though. I'll experiment with some small batches and see what works best. I made some last night with just VG, no water, just the nicotine is in PG. The shake and vape is good so far. I'll see how it comes out after steeping.
I made my first diy juice today using strawberry ripe 6% and vanilla bean ice cream at 8% and the flavor is very weak they are both TPA flavoring but have barely any flavor.
Don't forget many mixes aren't necessarily shake and vapes. Like a good wine they take time. I'd highly recommend looking up some recipes on E-liquid.com and getting to understand how some simple mixes are put together. You'll get it, keep mixing, then mix some more.
I started diy this week and that was the first recipe I made. As a shake and vape the VBIC was absent and I only got strawberry. Tried it again this morning after a 3 day steep in the cupboard and the VBIC is coming through nicely now, so it's obviously one that needs a few days to come together.
Coming into this with little experience, what do I need to do to make sure my juice is as safe as can be? What do I need to avoid?
Heavy sucralose, any sort of natural sugars(fructose, sucrose, sugar syrup), diketones, busy intersections, exposed wires, downed telephone poles, busy places in France, bear hunting during mating season, and some others.
Hey, So I don't DIY but my good friend has a ton of supplies and he lets me use or mix what I want. My real question is I've had an idea in my head for a juice but can't seem to figure out where I wanna go with it, Just looking for other juices that might be similar or input on the flavours I'm thinking of together.
My local B&M Does an amazing Cactus,Jackfruit,Strawberry, Pineapple mix, But I've been thinking of doing Raspberry as the primary with cactus as a backing note, maybe with a cream or custard? Basically, I'm just looking for input, I'm going to have to go through a bunch of variations obviously but what would you do with the idea of raspberry and cactus?
TFA Sweet Raspberry at 4% is a good main note, then INW Cactus under 2% to back it, and maybe .5% CAP cucumber to fight how floral cactus can get.
Thanks, Cucumber is one of my favourites I'll definitely give that a try. Out of curiosity is the TFA Sweet Raspberry a fairly natural tasting raspberry or is it a more candied/artificial flavour?
It's closer to real raspberry than the others on the market, besides Medicine Flower Raspberry, but that's about $10 for 5mL.
Others like INW, FA, and CAP taste like a raspberry blo-pop, or if a raspberry blowpop had been sitting in a puddle with its wrapper on and you decided to chew on said wrapper.
How likely is it that my VG and PG are responsible for a lack of flavor after a short time?
After these issues, I decided to go with a 'safe' brand, Mount Baker Vapor. Had good experiences with them before. Mixed up Jungle Juice at 15% at 70VG/30PG on Tuesday evening. Put it in my tank in Wednesday and all was good throughout the day, even if it did seem a bit too strong. Started puffing on it this morning and there's less flavor. Like, a lot less. Gonna throw it in my dripper this afternoon when I get home for more checking but I'm legitimately thinking the PG and VG I bought might be the culprit.
Thought MBV didn't sell their flavors anymore? I know they use FW flavors but its hearsay that they dilute it.
After reading your other post with you having this issue with another flavoring company, what kind of tank are you using? Also what brand of pg/vg are you using and if its possible try using another companies VG/PG to see if that is the culprit. I'd also suggest maybe mixing 2 different mixes and alternating between the two to see if that helps.
Third party re-seller, since I don't live in the US of A.
I'm running a Toptank Mini, though I've also tried my mixtures in a Tsunami with similar results. I'm using PG and VG purchased from Chef's Flavours. Already planning on getting a pre-mixed base from another company, should get here Saturday. Still keeping an eye out on the bottle I currently have since I've gotten over the initial shock. The flavor seems to have mellowed out quite a bit since yesterday but I'm still keeping a close eye.
So I am placing my first order Friday, love me some fruity creams, definitely starting with some Nana Cream clones, maybe some Mountain Top after that. This is my initial order (so far) any additions/subtractions? Trying to stay around the $75-80 price range at Ecigexpress. Anyone know of a coupon more than their 10% for their newsletter signup? Not a huge strawberry fan, can't taste it much, just got it to make the Nana Cream clone.
1Liter VG, 250ML PG(I usually vape 70/30 1mg), 30ml 24MG Nic base in PG, 20 bottles for small mixes, as I've kept all my glass throughout the time I've been vaping to reuse.

I love creams! Should I swap some of the ones I picked out for those?
FA Vienna Cream is a staple if you like ice cream/cereal/milk vapes. So is TFA Bavarian Cream and FW Bavarian Cream. If you like heavy creams, I recommend picking up FA Whipped Cream, FW Sweet Cream, CAP Sweet Cream and CAP Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.
Hi , i've been vaping for almost 2 weeks now but i haven't been really satisfied with my juices so i wanna try to make my own . In my country you can buy a premade base with 100% VG or 50-50 VG-PG . The juice i had was 100% VG with 12 mg nicotine but it didn't really satisfied me enough ( flavour ) . So if i'll buy a 50-50 base will i notice a massive drop in clouds production or just a little ? I can honestly use some advice because I'm tired of spending money on shitty liquids . Thanks !

Strawmelon looks great. I have CAP Golden Pineapple and TFA Pineapple what percentage of one of those would you use as a substitute?
I saw on the telios thread that it's not 1:1, what does that mean? I would like to try the recipe
I have another question. I like my simple first recipe. I will experiment with other user recipes soon, but for now I'm just making something vapable that I personally like so much more than any overpriced garbage at the vape shop. I'm using NY Cheesecake and toasted marshmallow. I've experimented in small batches adding a small amount of Bavarian cream or sweet cream.
My question is, what flavor percentage would you recommend? I went with 10 percent total. It's good, but it could be stronger. I'm just not sure how much stronger to go. What's a typical total percentage for this type of flavor?
A good place to start is to see what percentage other people use in their recipes. Here is CAP NY Cheesecake on two different sites:
This will give a good indication. What flavors you combine will of course have an impact on this. And what flavors you want to dominate or linger in the background. Keep in mind that increasing a flavor doesn't necessarily make it stronger, it can even have quite the opposite effect.
You don't want to pigeon hole yourself in going for a specific total percentage. It's just about what percentage the flavors your using are best at for you. Single flavor testing is a good way to see for yourself what amounts are good for your taste, but elr and atf are a good resource to see what percentage other people are using this flavor at.
All TFA: banana, Belgian waffle, dairy milk
How do I mix at max vg with banana being the main flavour, then waffle, then milk?
I would start with 4% banana, 3% belgian waffle, and 2% dairy milk. Then you can start adjusting to taste. If you go to e-liquid-recipes.com you can go under resources and flavor list and search different flavors and see an average percentage. I lowered waffle and dairy milk a bit here because you want them to be an accent.
Why is the FA Watermelon flavor so light? I tried a 5% dosage in a 50/50 Blend but it doesn't taste like anything at all. Did I fuck up somewhere or is the flavor just very light?
FA watermelon isn't a catch-all watermelon flavor. It's more of a dry, rindy watermelon. I suggest using a different flavor such as CAP Sweet Watermelon or Double Watermelon
I have just started mixing my own juice and I'm struggling to get any flavour from both Capella and The Flavour Apprentice. I have been mixing 60pg/40vg in a 6mg for my Aspire ETS clearomiser and 70vg/30pg in a 3mg for my Cleito with a 0.4 coil.
In the CAP range I tried mixing Mango, Passion Fruit, Guava, Watermelon and Honeydew Melon. All mixed at 20% which was advised by a member of staff from the alchemists cupboard. The have been steeping for over 3 weeks now and carry no flavour. I have given them warm water baths and oxidising the daily as well as shaking them twice a day. The smell amazing but taste of nothing.
In the TFA range I purchased Mango, Passion Fruit, Guava, Watermelon, Tutti Fruity, Rainbow Sherbet and Cantaloupe. I mixed these all at 12% which was advised by Prime Vapour where I bought them from and also looked at the eliquid recipe site for recommended percentages. Steeped for about 2 weeks with warm water baths and oxidising daily as well as shaking them twice a day. Once again they smell amazing but taste of nothing.
Has anyone had this problem before or know where I'm going wrong? I have read people using very little concentrate in their mixes and seem to get amazing flavour where as I am getting nothing. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated as I'm starting to think making my own isn't worth it.
I am using PG, VG and 72 mg Nic all purchased from Vampire Vape.
Thanks in advance!
Personally I think you are using flavoring at way too high of a percentage. It seems counterintuitive, but what can happen is if you use too much flavor it will mute itself, and you will barely taste anything.
What I would do for those flavors is try mixing a sample at say 5%, and then consider decreasing it or raising it from there. But each flavor is different, so just because it's a TFA flavor doesn't mean you use all of them at the same %. Some are crazy potent, some are best at 3%, some 5% etc. Same thing for CAP.
Also, use the sidebar to search for those flavors and see what others are using them at. And you can check here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/wiki/index/flavor_reviews for more detailed flavor reviews. (Here is an example of one I found from sidebar searching. http://juic.org/flavors/tfa/tfa-mango/)
edit: I read this again and saw that you said you are hot water steeping them and "oxidizing" daily? I'm assuming that means you are opening the bottle to let air in. Here's my suggestion for that. Do neither of those. Hot water definitely isn't necessary or recommended, especially for single flavor fruit mixes. Opening the bottle while steeping just lets out the flavor volatiles from the bottle, resulting in less overall flavor and more muting. Fruits shouldn't really need a steep either.
hey all, just mixed up my first batch yesterday and have a quick question about steeping. after i mixed it up i gave it a real good shake and then a small vape to get an initial impression. do i need to shake it up again while the steeping is happening? would you shake it everyday/ every few days or is that initial shake all that's needed?
Good initial shake is all that's needed.
cheers guys, much appreciated. i guess the hardest part for a new diy'er is going to be the waiting. how often would you have a little test of something that's steeping to see how it's progressing and take notes?
IME, fruit only mixes don't change much after a couple of days. On the other hand creamy mixtures need a full week to get there. And custards need at least a couple of weeks, and can really shine best after a full month.
I do like to test my bakery/desserts every few days as a rule, just to see how they are progressing. Patience is a virtue....
Welcome!
Advice on Big Batches
I have been mixing from last 2 months. Where i live there is no vape store, so I do little mix and sale them out to People around my block and help them stop smoking.
Questions
- I make 1 Gallon of Each Flavor don't know what is the best way to mix it. Thinking of getting a Drill to Stir it.
2.To kick start a the Steep what is good ( Hot Water batch or Ultra Sonic ) or Just let it Sit.
- Any website to make bottle label
Any advice will be very appreciated,
MUCH LOVE :)
Not much experience with DIY eliquid but used to homebrew beer and a gallon is straying into that volume size. So maybe check some homebrew sites and see what they have there.
EDIT: If I remember correctly they even have washable attachments that fit to a drill.
Hi, i just mixed some batch using all flavourart stuff. 70-30 pg vg, tried different concentrations for flavours and they smell really good, bu t at vape they taste almost nothing. Say for example FA strawberry. I started with 2%, nothing. 3% shaking well the bottled, done all the calculation again, really faint. 4 and 5%, still nothing there. Tried some mixing and everything is really faint, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5% i can taste nothing. If i buy an ejuice with friuts is really strong you can taste in you mouth. There nothing. Tried 3 week steep. Nothing. My ejuices tastes nothing, i am frustrated.
There's a possibility that you can't taste strawberry. It's a common affliction that people don't notice until they start DIY because sweetener is great at covering up the lack of flavor.
Speaking of, you may also just be used to highly sweetened juices, especially if you were getting the strong flavor on your tongue. You could try sweetening your juice if it's not just strawberry that you've tried.
If you are used to commercial juice, you are used to a metric fuck-ton of sweetener. I would recommend trying to add Dragonfruit at 1% and it might help define it a bit. If that doesn't work I might try adding Ethyl Maltol or TFA Cotton Candy at around 1-1.5%. I would try to avoid using Sucralose as it will not make it any easier to be able to taste your fruits. If you must, I would try it and try to use less and less every batch you make.
FA Strawberry is weak to me too, even at 4% it is just a background flavour. Try INW Shisha Strawberry, it is strong and delicious, have not looked back since trying it. A bit of TFA Dragonfruit with it helps make it more juicy too (0.5% personal preference), similar to cloudstatevapor's suggestion. I believe that Dragonfruit contains EM, at least it tastes like that to me, can taste the slightly burnt sugar at high percentages.
Trying to find TFA/Capella flavors in Europe, already looked at the sidebar. Only nicotineriver ships to my country but it's $35 shipping (I'm only getting $30 worth of stuff). Is there a shop in Europe that ships TFA/Capella to Belgium? Even a shop further away is fine as long as shipping isn't more than 10euro.
I know vapable.com ship to Europe. Chefsflavours.co.uk are also a well stocked site but not sure about Europe delivery, you might have to contact them.
In the meantime I found some vendors from the Netherlands. Both e-sigaretnederland.nl and thevaporstore.nl sell them for a good shipping price. Also next day delivery. Thanks anyways! Took me some time but I found it.
Most uk shop ship to the mainland and i find them to be cheaper than the local options. Check this link out and join the site aswell http://e-liquid-recipes.com/resources
The ecigshop is my favorite so far. I'm from belgium
You're from Belgium too? Flemish or Walloon part? I'll check it out, might be good for my next purchase.
Thanks for the advice guys. Ive made a 5% mix of Mango both from CAP and TFA, vaped both straight away. CAP has a little taste and TFA tastes of nothing again. Would you advise going lower in the next % mix or go higher or just work my way from 2%-12% till i hopefully get something decent? Did not think it was this complicated when i started lol.
Try them together around 3-4% each. Chances are, the mango flavor will be more rounded that way. You can fine tune percentages of each flavoring in future batches based on your preference for each. Also, aging it a day or a week is going to help develop a little depth so give it some time if it isn't great right away. Most flavors tend to mute themselves if you use too much, so keep that in mind before using over 5% of a flavor, especially fruity ones.
You should be getting plenty of flavor from CAP Sweet Mango at 5%. What's your setup like? Are you having trouble tasting any of your other flavors?
Im going to start at 2% at work my way up in both Mango TFA and Sweet Mango CAP and leave them a week and report back and do the same with my other flavours till i find the right mix. I have been reading loads of mixing recommendations online from merchants and and forums and a lot say between 12-15% some even as far as 25%!!!
In regards to my set up I'm guessing you mean bottles, storage and equipment? Im recycling old 10ml plastic bottles (washing them out and leaving to dry). Im storing them in a dark bedside cupboard. Im using syringes which are washed and cleaned after every use.
Some flavours have no taste but some have a slight taste but nothing as its described. I can taste pre made liquids no problem, but obviously with making my own i want to move away from pre made liquids.
Also thank you for the advice and guidance guys. Its massively appreciated!
Couple of quick questions:
- Is DIYorDie worth signing up for?
- Can someone recommend me a good banana recipe?
EDIT: Found this on ELR, is it decent?
Banana Cream (LA) 5%
Dragonfruit (TPA) 3%
Strawberry (TPA) 7%
DIYorDIE is worth signing up for if you havew an idea of what you are doing as a mixer, and judging by your question about 'Nana Cream, you'd be better off watching all of his videos on youtube and checking out all of the free content on his channel as well as the sidebar here and wiki before you sign up for that or most of it will be over your head, in my opinion. As far as the recipe goes, that is one of my favorite banana recipes. Mix it up and it is great as a shake and vape and it gets better with age! If you have any other questions feel free to message me.
If you know the process of mixing, and want to know more about recipe development and some more advanced mixing techniques, then I think you'll really enjoy the subscription. If you're a complete new mixer and aren't sure how to mix, then I'd take advantage of the free info first to learn the ropes.
Not a new mixer's question, per se, but, I didn't want to open a new thread on this particular question, because it's just a curiosity.
Where it's already been established that citric acid is hell on tooth enamel in regards to food and drinks, what about ejuice? It's got to be fairly prevalent in most fruit flavors especially, which concerns me, because I've already been warned by my dentist to go easy on the lemon juice I like in my water and tea, which has been tough.
Fresh lemon is my antidepressant of choice, so I skirt the issue with drinking straws for now, and would hate to find out that I was undoing all that with all these AMAZING. LEMONADE. RECIPES.
Can't imagine that would be an issue considering what minute amounts we're talking about. Take TFA Lemon Lime for example, containing 5% lemon oil and using it at 5%, that would amount to 0.025 ml lemon oil in a 10 ml bottle, literally one drop, which you then might take all day to vape.
Yeah, that's what I was hoping, for sure, and I assumed it was not worth worrying about. But, I have a dental visit coming up, and while I expect a ticker-tape parade for no longer smoking, I didn't want to be surprised by a "Your smoker's discoloration is 100% better, but, your enamel has been stripped away. What gives?"
Has anyone ever tried these ? In say, a 1 gal. container ?
Not many people here mixing up a gallon at a time. And I'd bet decent money than the few who do, aren't trying to shake it up with a blender ball.
Is making Menthol Juice Easy? I got a liter of vg and im planning to get some vg and just making a huge batch of strong menthol. What other flavors should I add to make it taste like MBV Menthols?
Probably this one is exactly what you want. I've read it's pretty strong, so I would make some 10ml samples starting at 1%, and work up until I found my sweet spot before scaling up the volume.
And I would also give some consideration to adding at least some PG, you know, for wicking. 98-99% VG will be pretty thick.
Just ordered my starter kit. Outside of steeping - is there anything special to storing juice so it keeps longer? Also, how long would a batch typically keep until it's bad?
6 months is about the max I would hold on to a juice with nicotine mixed in, I have had juices last this long without the nicotine mixed in and very little loss of flavor.
There is a peek when sleeping really depends on the recipe for me between four and six weeks is where the juice is the best.
Juice doesn't really go bad. Keep it a reasonable and fairly stable temperature. In a couple months you may lose some of the top notes or "pop" in your fruits. The juice will darken a bit over time, especially if you've got a decent amount of nicotine in there. I wouldn't mix more than 2 months at a time if you have fruit heavy recipes.
Soooo, since I got all my DIY stuff started this past week, I been really loving it so far. Been focusing primarily on a menthol/mint vape still, i've made about 40 mls of it and run through it in a day, but that's with dripping.
Anyways, this is where I am at with it and I could use a bit of pointers.
Inhale: Super minty
Between: Tingly
Exhale: smooth and semi-sweet
after-taste: this is where I need help, it's slightly bitter? Kinda like... Soap... But this is ever since I added Ripe Strawberry into the mix. I saw someone mention that INW and TFA Strawberries are good to match 50/50.
I also need help on my flavor notes as I cannot taste any strawberry whatsoever...
[recipe here] (http://imgur.com/tROmHpI)
That's a whole lot of koolada, and a probably a bit too much mint mix. I'd try dropping the koolada to .25% or .5% and the mix mint to like .5% to 1%. That bitter note will hopefully go away.
As for the strawberry, dialing the mint and the koolada back should let the strawberry come through a bit more. I'd try a batch with the shisha strawberry at 2% and see if that helps, as shisha strawberry is pretty strong and you may be muting the flavor by adding too much. Alternatively, you may just not be tasting the strawberry. I have the same issue. I don't get much out of strawberry. Nothing short of some sweetener or maybe switching to a different strawberry is going to help. It's a pretty common problem.
Yeah, getting the flavor out of strawberry has been quite as issue for me since I started vaping. I guess that's why I loved strawberry milk vapes for the longest time... I should probably research what %'s of strawberry are used in those.
As for the mint/menthol... I couldn't think of dropping them, the amount of mint/menthol I get with each pull is so amazing (for me personally) haha. But i'll reconsider...!
Thanks.
EDIT: As for the bitter after-taste, that didn't come around till I started adding Ripe Strawberry............. I also have noted for each revision I made in the pic, see notes section.
I've been struggling with the strawberry flavors and am beginning to think that I just don't taste them. I've tried TFA strawberry ripe in a cream base(from 1-6%) and I get absolutely nothing! As strawberry is such a common flavor in recipes what's a good alternative? Raspberry?
Yup, sounds familiar. I don't have any issues tasting raspberry. TFA Sweet Raspberry is a pretty solid sub for strawberry. Shares a whole lot of characteristics with a candy type of strawberry flavor. I also like FA raspberry quite a bit. INW Raspberry is okay, but it's a bitch to nail your % down and it gets weird quick. Not a ton of experience with blackberry, but FA Forest Mix is good. Blueberry mostly works for me too, FW Blueberry is good and FA Bilberry is pretty awesome if you aren't expecting a full blueberry flavor but just kind of the the earthy skin part of it.
I've had some success with JF Strawberry Sweet, but in general i just avoid strawberries.
You're tasting soap because your INW is way too high. I personally use INW below 2%. TFA Strawberry Ripe at 4%, INW Strawberry at 2 or 1%, you might even want to add TFA Strawberry at 1 or 2% and TFA Dragon fruit at 1% (helps to blend the strawberries together). This gives a multi-faceted strawberry. As for koolada, you're using wayyy too much. I do about 2 - 3 drops per 10ml. Try INW Mix Mint at 0.5% and Koolada at 0.3%.
Hey guys, just got my first order of PG/VG/NIC/flavaaaaaaas and im seeing a need alot more flavors! What flavors should I order to start experimenting with cream profiles?
Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Custard, Marshmallow, and the FA Creams. Should be able to cover a good spectrum with those.
I see VBIC mentioned often, must be good! So the first 3 are TFA?
No the custard you want from CAP. If you don't like DAAP, get FA. The others can be TFA/FW/CAP they're all pretty good with different strengths and weaknesses. Look up some notes to determine which ones you want if you don't grab them all.
Here's a good cream base:
TFA Bavarian cream 2% FA Fresh Cream 1% CAP vanilla custard 2% TFA Sweet cream 1% FA Marshmallow 1%
Thanks! Someone already linked me to ckemists base. I ordered the flavors, now just waiting to get them! How long do you let the base steep for?
Hey im loking for a clone recipe of sicboy your mom please help
FWIW, here is a link to this month's clone request thread. Not a lot of people here are analyzing a bunch of commercial juices and hacking juice genetics so to speak, but you might get a comment or two.
Comb through the thread a bit too. Really, it seems like success comes when 2 or 3 people looking for the same clone collaborate and share notes on different parts of the mix based on what they have in their stash, maybe buy some more flavors, rinse, and repeat until you're close enough to satisfaction or need a break from it. Heck, you might end up with something better than what you're trying to clone.
Best of luck with sicboy your mom.
Looking for E Liquid mixer with temp control. Any advice
What you're looking for is something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/magnetic-stir-plate
I have no personal experience with them though.
Since there are a lot of new mixers that look at this thread I thought this would be a good place to post this. As some of you may know I am working on a YouTube channel (cloudstatvapor) to teach beginners how to make e-juice and keep it simple and quick. I was thinking about other ways to get my information out and I was thinking about some sort of e-book that is a compilation of my research and my suggestions as well as a plethora of recipes geared toward beginners. the think about this is it is going to take a lot of time and I like to believe my time is valuable so I was thinking about selling this at about $5 (goal is over 500 pages of content) and then an optional $1 a month of extended content that will be like extra recipes that won't be on the YouTube, all of my flavor notes, deeper DIY research as well as answers to questions I that get often. It would be kind of magazine style maybe but geared only at mixing e-juice and mainly geared at beginners. If I can get some people on board to say that would be a good idea I will get started on it. Also feel free to give input on price point, content, etc. thanks in advance!
You don't want to hear this, but /u/-lokes was right. If you look at really the only successful model of a DIY-centric business, /u/enyawreklaw's DIYorDIE, he presents all of his information for free, then allows payment for subscription to receive email updates and very in-depth DIY material. He didn't really have a brand until he presented entirely free content like videos, our podcast, and flavor notes and recipes. If you make content with the intent to make money, people will be able to notice, and that's not a good thing. A passionate mind is far better than a professional one.
edit in addition to my edit: he also had a very well recognized and highly regarded name in the DIY scene, and, I mean no disrespect by saying this, but I really don't even know who you are. I've seen one or two of your videos, but there needs to be a lot more footwork put in before you get into charging for content, ya know?
/u/cloudstatevapor a few others have recently tried to do exactly what you're trying to do and all have fell through. Not because of response or because of money, but because the lack of content. The amount of work I put into the videos and the site is enormous, but it allows me to charge a bit to recoup that investment. People aren't going to pay for something unless it's worth paying for, so if you want to try and go the route I did, just focus on putting work out there....and a TON of work. It all starts with your recipes. Putting out good recipes, with a lot of development and refinement, will get people to be interested in what you have to say about mixing. But your recipes SHOULD ALWAYS BE FREE. No one is going to care about your recipes if you charge for them. Don't take this the wrong way but there are FAR too many mixers much better than you putting recipes out there at no charge. So get in the door by putting good recipes out there. Recipes that people will talk about, recipes that are different, recipes that show YOUR style of mixing. While doing that, work on putting together information that has helped YOU, your experiences, your trials and errors. And keep putting work out there. What happened to a few others, is that they saw that the road to making ANY sort of money was far too long and too hard, so they gave up. This happens in everything I guess. Just be prepared to work is all I'm trying to say. Much love to ya. Hope to see some more content from you!
Called it from the start, this guy is only interested in making money. So much for "helping the community" hahahah I'll ask you the same question I asked you in the thread. Who are you? What credibilities do you have? Why should we pay $5 to someone who isn't an accomplished mixer? No thanks, I rather give my money to someone like DIYORDIE.
Do it for the love of it, because you want to and if it sells it sells. No one is getting rich on DIY and we may never. But if it gives you a reason to get up in the morning and you enjoy it then do it. No one minds paying for good content in my experience.
If you liked this response please comment on my recipe's [-Lokes Recipes] (http://e-liquid-recipes.com/list?q=lokes) cause I'm trying to at least get that accomplished.
Thanx in Advance
hey man, im not trying to upset you but what i would suggest is to re edit all your recipes to be like the chiclet one. on the chiclet recipe you at least but notes for each flavor. my next note is to go deep, the more of your personal notes you can put out there the better. some of the recipes are different but that isnt a bad thing. remember do this because you love it, and i think you do, and it will all work out. good luck
Tldr: create value, find a niche that makes your clients NEED you over anyone else, and be patient during your grind.
Same thing as everyone has already said, but from a slightly different perspective. Creating a lucrative business takes YEARS to accomplish. I've been running my own business as an artist for roughly five years now and it's only now become lucrative. When you run a "creative" business like art or even in the DIY world, you need to create value before you can even think about making money.
You need to make it so your client base NEEDS you. What you're suggesting is exactly what Wayne, New Amsterdam, and even myself with the Beginner Blending podcast already put out for free. Not to say you still cannot make a buck off of DIY, but you need to create a niche that people want or need. Find something about DIY that you do that no one else does. Which is obviously difficult, but it is possible. Practice, build a name for yourself within the community, and just be helpful, and the rest will fall into place.
Hope this helps.
