So I made the recipe here
https://m.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/4x9uhy/whats_your_current_favorite_simple_recipe/d6enn1b
from /u/botboy141 & /u/ID10T last night. When I put it in my pocket this morning I'm pretty sure it was clear. I pulled it out of my pocket just now and it's turned a vibrant shade of blue. I assume this is ok? Anyone have any info on this haha?
It isn't blue. It's sunlight/UV that's affected by some volatiles to look blueish when that particular sunlight is going through the eliquid.
I will look at it in a spot with no UV light and report back
Most likely it's ethyl isovalerate used commonly in apple, pineapple and tropical fruit flavors. Maybe INW Lemon Mix has a pineapple or tropical note?
I'm on a beach in Gdansk with 2G internet so I can't look it up easily.
https://imgur.com/a/Nl8IN here is the juice in my windowless bathroom. Still very blue. Are you saying that UV could permanently effect the specific volatiles or only when it is in the sun?
It did get some pretty strong sun exposure, I was hanging out on my porch enjoying the beautiful boulder weather, and the buffs absolutely destroying Idaho state.
##IT LIVES!
Welcome back my man. Hope you are around for a while this time.
WAT?!
Okay, for what it's worth, I've made that recipe twice, first time steeped about 3 weeks, second about 5 days. At no point did it explore it's Blue Period. It was crystal clear, though admittedly cloudy when first mixed. How odd.
I wonder if it has something to do with a plastic bottle? Some flavors have been known to react with plastics, so, at the risk of sounding overly-cautious, maybe don't vape that just yet.
I use clear glass Boston Rounds pretty exclusively (with the exception of a few long-steeping custards in amber Boston rounds).
Can anyone else weigh in? I'm obviously out of my depth.
It tastes fine even though that probably means nothing.
Also it is LDPE from heartland vapes.
What color pants were you wearing at the time?
Can you link the ingredients for INW lemon; I am currently at work and this flags as "shopping" so I can not view on this computer.
LDPE does resist acid corrosion; but I am wondering if the flavor itself contains Limonene or some other terpene; which is a hydrocarbon and will decay this bottle into a base component which is a violet color.
I have about a 80% feeling that is is due to the decay of hydrocarbons.
Did you ever make the unholy alliance biscuit we started talking about in the thread OP linked?
OH! I have actually, but I've not yet tasted it. It's still in my steeping cabinet, and today I cracked the Pyrex tube in one of my tanks and had to pry the fragments out with pliers and reorder a 5-pack of Pyrex tubes from FastTech. Not my day today. :-/
Well dang, that's a new colour. I thought LB's strawberry cheesecake going dark pink was odd.
Are you blue, da be dee?
There was a batch of nicotine going around at some point that turned blue after a while. No idea whose nicotine and no idea why it turned blue. In Finland it was called "smurf-nicotine". Try mixing without nic and compare if it's not the UV or the plastic.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/2jhfr5/is_tfa_apple_candy_supposed_to_turn_blue/ - Ignore the stupid high percentage I used.
Similar/same compound in each maybe? I dunno. IIRC, that juice eventually went back to normal-ish colour after a few weeks.
Is that a high volume of fa fuji? At work we have fuji come in that blue and also light purple
I've had some juices turn some really interesting colors, but I've made that recipe several times and it's always gone from a cloudy shake-and-vape to being quite clear after a short steep and even after a long steep. I also use LDPE from Heartland. Don't know what to tell ya. How new were your pants? Maybe the dye from your pants discolored the outside of the bottle.
TPA musk candy is the only one I've seen to that. Good luck. How clean was the bottle?
Brand new from heartland vapes.
SCIENCE

I would tend to agree with you especially after the guy posted the ingredients that says it has limonene in it, except that no one else, even the creators of the recipe and other people who've tried making it say this has happened to them before.
Hell even /u/ID10T who is one of the creators of the recipe says he uses the same bottles as me! And that didn't happen to him. Idk man its a mystery.
Also I've mixed two more batches of this and kept them out of the sun and they seem clear. Gonna let them steep a few more days then put in the sun to see if anything happens.
It could be that the bottle itself had imperfections in it or that it was creating a degradation barrier (osmosis effect) between the bottle and whatever surface it was touching i.e. if you were wearing blue jeans that were not acid washed it could have leeched color from that.
More over if this has not happened with 2 new batches I would not use the blue colored one. :)
I got here because this just happened to me, about 40 hours ago i added a nic shot to 5ml of a premix. I have 4 driffrent flavors from the same brand also used the same nic shot(i have a 100ml bottle of it). And only one has a blueish/pinkish tint. The flavor is Aloe vera so its not a "blue flavor". The funny thing is that i have a Black currant menthol flavor and its perfectly clear. I have no idea why this happened and its also my 1st time seeing a blue ejuice
