Weekly Recipe - Applejacks Donut
submitted about 9 years ago by SadPandaVapesMixologist

Hi again everyone.

For this week's recipe we are going with one of my favs. It's very simple but it is for sure unique and has ADV potential if this profile is up your alley.

AppleJacks Donut -

4% Apple Jacks (FW)
5% Glazed Doughnut (CAP)
0.5% Joy (FA)
1% Sweetener (Sucralose) (TPA)
3% Vanilla Custard v1 (CAP)

Flavor total: 13.5% Remember to rate it at: http://tjek.nu/r/5HQz

There isn't a whole lot of explaining to be done with this flavor, but here we go anyways. Apple Jacks FW is a solid flavor but is a little on the weaker side. We don't want to overpower the recipe with apples and cinnamon so we keep it relatively low with 4%.

Glazed Doughnut is bomb af. We are at 5% because if you go to 7% it's a little too much and some say tastes like playdough. If we go lower to 3% then it gets muted after a nice steep.

Joy boosts any fried bread recipe. Moving on.

The vanilla custard blends everything together and provides a glaze effect for the donut.

Sweetener is always optional.

Thanks for reading everyone and I hope you enjoy!

I've been working on glazed donuts for 6 months now, and I find Capella's Glazed Doughnut to be a bitch to deal with. In your notes you mention that at 5% it's nice, but at 7% you get playdough. I find at anything over 2%, the play dough is too dominant. Is it just me? At 5%, does the playdough stop increasing, and you get more glaze? perhaps I just have to drown out the playdough by increasing the other flavorings.

It's not just you. It's straight-up Play-Doh even at 2% for me, takes me right back to kindergarten. Give up trying to make donut juice out of flavors with "donut" in the name, try something like this.

I haven't gotten a chance to pick up holy vanilla yet, are there any subs you know of?

That I can personally vouch for, no. I've heard that TFA Vanilla Bourbon is pretty close but haven't tried it.

I can't use it at all. I either can't taste it at all from using such a low amount or I only taste playdoh.

Just waiting for the Apple Jacks (FW) , While waiting I used some Berry Crunch (FW) in place of AJ and its amazingly tasty. I'm looking forward trying with the AJ. Thanks for sharing your recipes!

A little off topic but I've had your applebacco on hand for a month now. One of my all time favorites, its a shame you couldn't sell it but thanks a lot for sharing!

I was planning on grabbing stuff for donuts in my next order so this is perfect!

I'd recommend to try using RF Cinnamon Donut in this recipe. If you haven't tried this flavor yet you should.

If you think Cap Glazed Donut is bomb af.... then you will really enjoy RF. The cinnamon in the flavor is a just a light dusting and the donut is on point. It should compliment FW Apple Jack nicely. I might mix this up this weekend and see how it goes

I have never even tried a RF product yet. Thanks for the tip, will have to pick some up! Sounds perfect for what this recipe is.

what % would you go with same as the glazed donut? (5%)

RF is VG based I would suggest 7-8% in this recipe if you want the prominent donut

Hey nice recipe. I have a question that's totally unrelated. I've been having problems with watermelon lately, just wondering what's your favourite watermelon flavoring?

Have you tried FA's watermelon ("Red Summer")? I've read mixed reviews, but I like it. It is a touch weak for a FA flavor (I usually start at 3 or 4% in a mix, or even up to 6% depending on the recipe). It falls somewhere between a candy type watermelon and a real one (with subtle notes of watermelon rind, not offensively bitter though). Not very sweet, either, which I like. It's pretty versatile, IMO.

It's always been on the top of my list, but I've heard good and bad things. Something about how the there's a realistic rind taste to it.

Yeah, it is there (the rind note), no doubt. But, again, it's very subtle and not offensive (to my palate at least). Imagine eating a wedge/slice of watermelon....In your attempt to bite off every little last bit of the sweet, pink flesh, you accidentally bite into the white part. That's what that tiny rind note tastes like. Not off-putting.

It's also a bit dry, which is weird since watermelon is literally the juiciest fruit. I mean, it's got water right there in the name. Kind of makes me think of what freeze-dried watermelon would be like, if they sent some watermelon up with astronauts. But depending on what you're using it for, it's the most natural of the watermelons I've tried, a tiny bit of Cactus or mixing with a fruit that does have a wet, juicy feel to it will fix that dryness right up.

I personally hate it. It's rindy, dry, weak and harsh. Haven't tried any other watermelon though.

I am nobody you should pay attention to but I really love LA watermelon if you are working on a candy type recipe.

My personal favs or CAP Double Watermelon and Candy Watermelon FW.

Any luck with Cap Sweet Watermelon?

It's good too but there are slight differences. Sweet is more candy-like and not as potent.

Just wanted to say that I think this recipe is absolutely delicious. First off, I do get the play-doh taste from CAP Glazed Doughnut but it's never been off-putting to me personally. However, after a week, the play-doh flavor goes away and the vanilla custard/glazed doughnut/joy combo makes a really nice cakey doughnut. I was REALLY surprised at how well the Apple Jacks flavor lends a well-balanced apple/cinnamon combo that perfectly complements the doughnut base. Well done! This has made it to my ADV collection.

I thought adding Apple Jacks FW was weird at first too but it just works.

A weird thing I do is put two flavors up to each nostril and inhale. That's how I brainstorm ideas. If they smell good together, go from there.
