[Recipe] Autumn's Custard

Autumn's Custard

Ingredient|% :---|---: Cinnamon Danish Swirl (CAP)|1.25 Ethyl Maltol 10%|1 French Vanilla Creme (TPA)|0.5 RY4 Double (TPA)|3 Torrone (FA)|0.75 Two Apples (INAWERA)|2.5 Vanilla Custard v1 (CAP)|4

Flavor total: 13%

Gearing up for the fall season, I was looking to create something delicious and festive for the community. This recipe is complex and changes flavor with each vape. I hope you all in enjoy - Autumn's Custard.

The Base:

Vanilla Custard (CAP) - This is the obvious base note for the flavor profile. Creating a thick velvety layer of Vanilla for the rest of the flavors to mingle with was the objective here.

French Vanilla Creme (TPA) - This flavor was used as an accent to the Vanilla Custard to boost the creaminess as well as the Vanilla profiles. This gives the custard another layer of complexity while not overpowering the staple custard notes.

Cinnamon Danish Swirl (CAP) - Another accent to the base. Giving this a low percentage allows for a present cinnamon note with just a touch extra to the cream. A little goes a long way within this recipe.

Ethyl Maltol (TPA) optional - Once again - Just a touch of sweetness to brighten the cream layers as well as boosting the overall appeal of the vape.

The Main Notes:

RY4 Double (TPA) - This tobacco is such a versatile RY4. It's tobacco notes add a nice earthy tone as well as provides a delicious caramelized brown sugar sweetness that sits so well on top of the Vanilla Custard base. Using this at 3% allows it to shine but not overpower any other ingredient.

Torrone (FA) - This flavor is used more of an enhancer to the RY4. Finding the perfect percentage was key, but it was absolutely a must for this recipe. It offers a nice honey sweetness as well as a nice nut profile that (to me) is a match made in heaven for the RY4.

Two Apples (INW) - This is where this recipe shines for the fall season. To me, this gives off a nice Apple Cider kick. The CDS in the base notes sets this profile off. It also gives high notes of Sweet Red apple sweetness as well as a nice tang from the green apple.

Steep Time: 1 week is optimal. Shake and vape is delicious as well, but most custards/Tobaccos need time.

There you have it. This is one of my favorite vapes to date. It's so complex, it seems with every vape, the flavor profile changes and keeps your taste buds guessing.

Edited - once again, I f*ck my post up using the wrong ELR tag. Replaced Vanilla Custard (TPA) with Vanilla Custard v1 (CAP)

This sounds amazing, and I actually have almost everything, I'm going to sub vanilla swirl here because I don't have that French fanciness from tfa but, I'll post about it in a week. RemindMe! 1 week

VS should be a nice replacement. Good call. Interested in your feedback. Hope you enjoy!

Wow, the interplay between the apple and that Danish is spot on. I fatigue to apple pretty quick so this is in my daily rotation but isn't an adv for me because I can't take apple all day and still taste it. Heh. I love this though, reminds me of a local cider we have here. I totally love this.

That was with TFA vanilla swirl subbed in place of french vanilla creme?

What % did you use for the swirl?

2 points

by llamaleaseabout 9 years ago

Yes, that was with Vanilla Swirl, though I'm curious to try it the original way. I took it at exactly the same percentage, direct substitute. It was juuuuust present enough to be like "hey, I remember that's in here somewhere." To me it seemed about perfect there, not taking away from the spicy/savory goodness with any sweet creamy transformation. I like the body that the Danish had, and the amounts for the custard and vanilla keep that in mind.

I subbed in French Vanilla (V2) (Capella Flavors), and it worked well.

> This is the obvious base note for the flavor profile.

The obvious choice for custard is always CAP Vanilla Custard. Always.

And what a coincidence, this recipe is similar to a Spiced Fuji Custard I've been working on. Good job. :)

Fuji was actually the first flavor I grabbed when this recipe came to fruition. Love Fuji!

I'd be interested in your recipe when it's complete, though! Sounds good.

so it's better overall ? I use both and never thought one was always better than the other.

I assume you're asking about the custard? Personally feel like TFA's custard has an inherently pepperish taste, similar to TFA VBIC. CAP is more like rich, eggy, buttery goodness.

You are correct, and once again - I fail at posting a recipe. It's actually CAP Vanilla Custard V1 instead of TPA. Apparently it still works with TPA according to some - lol. I edited the post to reflect my idiocy.

Sorry mate, but our taste buds don't actually do anything while vaping except detect sweeteners & acidulants, plus wtfeverelse is in FA Vape Wizard. Everything else is your nose; we're smelling our vapes.

Otherwise, nice write-up.

I was SO close to ordering INW two apple this weekend but decided to pass on it. It looks great, and I'll get it on the next order for sure.

I may give this a shot with HS apple mix in place of INW two apple in the mean time.

by BigStankabout 9 years ago

Not sure about the HS Apple mix. Two Apples is really the staple in this recipe for the nice Apple Cider type flavor profile for the fall season. Either way, I'd give it a shot and see what you think. :)

Apple mix is kinda a apple, cranberry, cinnamon/nutmeg spice flavor so it should blend really well for that cider base. I'll mix 'er up and let you know. :-)

by BigStankabout 9 years ago

Welp, you sold me on that profile alone. I'll be ordering this one! That actually may work just as good if the apple shines through. Definitely interested in your version!

Awesome recipe, this one is a banger! Made it yesterday, and down about 20 ml so far.

A couple of changes I made:

  • Added 2% HS Apple Mix
  • Added 3 drops of FLV Rich Cinnamon to 30ml
  • Added 3 drops of CAP Super Sweet to 30ml

Looks like I've got a quality ADV for the fall, thanks again!

You got it! As one kind gentleman pointed out in the above comments - I actually f'd the post with the custard note - It's actually supposed to be CAP V1 instead of Vanilla Custard (TPA). I'm an idiot, but if you put TPA in it and it works, awesome! Your version sounds fantastic. This is the beauty of DIY.

by diycloudchaserabout 9 years ago

I'll try that for the next mix, thanks!. I also subbed French Vanilla (V2) (Capella Flavors) for French Vanilla Creme (TPA), and it worked well.

I can't tell you a percentage since it's been awhile since I picked it up, but the last time I played with Flavour Art's Liquid Amber it definitely imparted an autumnal flavor.

I've seen quite a few people mentioning this flavor as well. This is on my wish list.

This looks fantastic, I dont have two apples so I'll probably be using fuji as well and maybe a tiny touch of liquid amber for that cider tinged taste. Thanks for your hard work bud.

Glad you like! The profile is spot on for the fall. Your variation looks nice as well. I really need to do some deeper dives in the Tobacco flavors... They really do add something special.

Thanks! I did a single flavour mix of 16 different tobaccos recently. Here are my brief notes:

  • "Cubano Type-TFA (Size: 10ml)" Light cigar type tobacco
  • "Cured Tobacco-FLV (Size: 15ml Original Packaging)" Heavy cigar type tobacco, tastes like a Cuban
  • "RY4 Double-TFA (Size: 10ml)" Heavy caramel, light tobacco backnotes.
  • "Black Fire-FA (Size: 10ml)" Tastes like a campfire, but smooth, woodsy. Use in low amounts as a backnote.
  • "Black Label (Dijarum)-HS (Size: 10ml Original Packaging)" Heavy clove, light tobacco backnote. Compable to clove cigarettes.
  • "Burley-FA (Size: 10ml)" Sweet tobacco.
  • "Captain Jack For Pipe-INW
  • (Size: 10ml)" Rich sweet cigarette tobacco
  • "Churchill-HS (Size: 10ml Original Packaging)" Medium tobacco, somewhat cigar like.
  • "Dark Vapure-FA (Size: 10ml)" Sweet light-cigar like tobacco.
  • "Desert Ship Blend-FA (Size: 10ml)" Sweet flavour with a hint of tobacco, vanilla notes on the exhale.
  • "Perique Black-FA (Size: 10ml)" Sweet dry tobacco flavour, slight clove backnote.
  • "RY1-HS (Size: 10ml Original Packaging)" Light sweet cigar / cigarette tobacco. Grain / cereal exhale.
  • "Turkish-TFA (Size: 10ml)" Sweet dark tobacco.
  • "Western-TFA (Size: 10ml)" Sweet cigarette tobacco, just like raw cigarette tobacco.
  • Cappuccino Tobacco by Inawera 10ml Sweet coffee with light tobacco note.
  • Ry4 Tobacco by FlavourArt Smooth light tobacco taste with caramel flavour

I didn't have two apples and I didn't think Fuji would work, so I made an apricot version instead..... AMAZING!!!

I subbed FA Apricot for INW Two Apples at 1.5%. It's not quite a fruit/cream, not quite tobacco, not quite caramel, but absolutely ADV 😀

Best sub I've ever made

by BigStankalmost 9 years ago

Hey hey... that sounds fantastic. I am glad you like it! I've been vaping this recipe almost exclusively since its creation. Great for fall. I don't have any apricot, but I will grab it and give it a go. Thanks for the follow up.

+1 for the Torrone and Double RY4 combo. I have a delicious recipe which I haven't got around to sharing (or naming) that includes those and a few others. Sounds tasty. How is it without the EM?

1 points

by BigStankabout 9 years ago

Without EM, it lets the Torrone and Tobacco stand out a little more in the mix. At least at the time, that's what my notes revealed. It's been a while. The EM calms those down a bit and let's the apples be a bit more rounded out. And of course, sweetens the mix. :)

Finally another apple custard flavor in this sub! I had made one over a year ago that quickly became a favorite of most of my friends. Doesn't use any tobacco in it at all, but a bit of black currant for an earthier note.

I'd actually like to see that recipe. Do you mind sharing?
