Can't get enough of DIY? Good. Neither can I. That's why I've taken the liberty of creating a Telegram group purely for DIY-related discussions.
Telegram is a very nifty messenger app with a native app for every platform. It has extremely powerful group-capabilities and I'd say it's mobile apps are what really makes it stand out.
I've been a part of a large vaping-group on Telegram for a long time now and I've also had a private DIY group going there (with people we found on the ECR Telegram) and it's been such a great experience.
It's a great way to randomly jump in when you've got some time to kill. The atmosphere is much more laid back. Any thoughts or questions you have about DIY? Shoot! It's a chat. There's not the pressure of not being able to ask your question because you lack the correct type of thread or you're being limited by some extensive set of rules for creating a thread (I don't mean this in a bad way, ~~gods~~ mods!) .
Shared media, links and all text is saved in the chat – you can look it up and search for previous discussions on something at any time! There's even a feature to keep notes! You can easily take discussions privately or even create your own groups for those top-secret conspiracies when you find people just as insane as you are!
If you feel like there's something missing in your life I can 100% guarantee you I have no idea what that is, but this Telegram group is a good place to start searching.
How to get started:
Install the correct application for your platform.
Telegram Desktop (Windows, Linux)
Set a username in the app. Unless you set a username for yourself, you'll be displaying your phone number. Chats need identifiers, if you don't have a username it'll be your phone number. Once you've done that, it'll hide your phone number from anyone who doesn't already have it in their contacts.
Also, whatever you write in the Name and Lastname field will be public.
Join the group Either by link: https://telegram.me/diyejuice or search for ”DIY Ejuice” in the app.
Press the group name at the top and adjust your notification settings
There are some very powerful controls to limit how often you get notifications and how you want them served (if you want them at all).
Sorry if I'm breaking some extensive set of rules <3
Nice. This may be what I am looking for!
Let's hope so!
My experience so far has been great, I mean if you are wondering whether TPA Papaya could fit well in your Honey Pear project it'll feel strange starting a thread for such small questions. On a chat its perfect though and can start some quite intensive discussions.
It could be a really nice complement to this place for sure.
I've been working with a couple redditors on a passionfruit/orange/guava mix and the messaging through reddit + ATF has been kinda ridiculous. Yo /u/WickandWire and /u/ID10-T...what do you think about using this?
Happy to give this a shot but I can't find how to find the group in the app. You say search in the app, but where? The only time I have a search option is in contacts, which only searches existing contacts on my phone, or when starting a new chat and searching for diy ejuice does nothing.
Guidance would be appreciated
The link should auto-open Telegram, anyone can also add you to the group by your username.
For me on Android, I just press the magnifying glass on the top right and search for "DIY Ejuice" and it'll list public groups as well as contacts.
Reply your username if it's not going well, i'll add you.
Why not Discord? This post reads like a TV ad commercial script.
Sure, why not?
I went with Telegram because that's what I use and its comfortable on mobile. What I want is a laidback atmosphere for realtime DIY chat that is easy and smooth.
Make a discord chat, I'll learn it & join it.
I'll take your TV-ad comment as a compliment. English is not my native tongue. <3
Either way very informative, I'll leave server creation to the mods. It's relatively simple, I've used it with smaller subs and it never quite kicks off.
Honestly I think Telegram is a more casual-friendly way of doing it (and more suitable for this purpose) but I'm willing to try new mediums - my knowledge of discord is not great.
As for the mods, if they want to moderate the Telegram stuff I'll happily hand it over. Just interested in seeing if theres any interest for this to begin with.
