What is a good way to eliminate throat hit from citrus?

I couldn't find answers anywhere. I love citrus flavors but I hate that sharp bite it has. Even toning it down by half is enough. Thank you.

U/abdada mentioned a while ago that is due to the fixative effect of the EM. Also much larger or heavier volitiles will also have fixative properties such as creams.

The harshness is because of the turpenes that make the citrus flavour and EM will "bind" to them and reduce the harshness

I'll second that. .25 to .5% EM will round the edges of your citrus off quite a bit. I also occasionally throw in something that kind of plays at the same level as the harshness of citrus, like a mint or other herbal kind of flavor. TFA Horehound or INW Natural Mint (dead on spearmint) both sort of mask the citrus harshness a bit by making it seem like it is part of the added flavor.

Adding creams, steeping longer and adding less citrus is about it.

You can also try and let it steep in an open container, which would let the more volatile chemicals evaporate - generally it is the volatile stuff that is responsible for the throat hit, but this could change the flavour of course and it might not be to your liking anymore afterwards.

While I agree on the steeping, I have to bring up the point that every aroma we are working with is "volatile." Eventually, if left open, you will be left with very little flavor because you've let most of the molecules escape. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right. I've also heard from friend who owns a B&M tell me that 1% or less of marshmallow will mellow it out but idk.

marshmallow or meringue or both. You can also try EM or even Smooth, but careful with Smooth - it is basically Triacetin, which is meant as a masking agent for bad flavours - so in effect it will reduce your flavour potency - which might not be what you want

Definitely, but I'm not saying leave it open for weeks though :) I've not tried this, but I would think the best way to test would be to give it a taste every day to determine how much throat hit is left vs flavour

Some people believe that MTS Wizard also contains triacetin - if that is the case the same warnings as with smooth would apply. Have not used it myself, so can't say for sure

TFA GC/MS'd vape wizard, discovered triacetin, & then semi-reverse-engineered it & made tfa smooth, which is just triacetin. Vape wizard has extra things in it

Any Marshmallow does wonders at 1% or less, also TFA Sweet Cream will knock the top right off your citrus notes even as low as 0.25%. Be gentle though. It has a tendency to mute your fruit a LOT if you use too much.

Possibly off topic, but I have noticed a slight cardboard-like aftertaste with every orange flavor I've used . Anyone else notice this?

I also noticed that you noticed a slight cardboard-like aftertaste in every orange flavor you've used.

Seriously though, FA Orange tastes more realistic than TFAs. It is potent so start at liek 0.5%

I mix all my citrus juices with 1% Marshmallow TFA.

After a day of steeping my Ecto Cooler/Citrus Punch mix is actually quite smooth with the marshmallow in there.
