Almond [FA]
submitted about 9 years ago by Chrisdvr1Proud Sidebar Reader!

Setup

RDA/ Velocity Coil/ 6 Wrap Single Fused Kanthal Clapton 2×26 core 32 wrap W/ 45 Wicking/ Full Rayon Ω/0.26

Testing

Steep Time/7 weeks % Used/ 1 PG/VG 50/50 Nic%/0

Mouthfeel

Light on the tongue heavy on the nose with a moderate density 5 out of 10.

A slightly chalky mouth feel.

Throat Hit 2/10

Flavor Properties

A complex nutty flavor with a rich and smooth, very earthy almost Woody flavor. This flavor is something of a conundrum, I get a creamy and buttery note, along with a chalky and slightly dull note at the same time.

Relatable Flavors

This flavor reminds me of almond milk, and eating raw almonds, as close as I've ever tasted in vapor.

Position In The Recipe

Given its density and useful applications I would have to say this is a base note, it could also be used as an accent to bring out complex nutty flavorings in other flavors such as fa cookie.

Off flavors

The one thing I've noticed when mixing with this flavor is I often get a strong Hospital antiseptic note, but did not perceive that in the single flavor mix.

Pairings

Other nuts, creams, bakeries, tobaccos, candies, chocolates, savory, and spice flavorings such as cardamom or vanilla.

Recipe

Obviously not one of mine but I feel this recipe really highlights the flavoring well.

Notes

This flavor is very strong, as are most flavor art flavorings start low and move up.

I'd ramp up the percentage as well. I think I've felt you've used too much of a few flavourings in the past but in this case I'd actually suggest 4-5%. To bump up the almond aspect add 0.6% FA Marzipan to 3% FA Almond to get a nice almond paste.

FA Almond smells and tastes (to me) like almond extract used in baking. A very sweet natural almond. I love it, it's a great addition to cereal flavors.

Also good with coconut and chocolate for a "Mounds bar" taste.

I am with you on this one. I don't think there is much (if any) nuttiness in there, just a very sweet, smooth almond essence.

For me the taste is bordering on the taste of almond paste, as opposed to either actual almonds (lacks the bitterness of the skin & is too sweet) or ground almonds (too sweet again).

This stuff is amazing. 3% is pretty ideal for high wattage recipes.

3% FA Almond, 3% Fresh Cream, 2% Dairy Milk and 3% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream TFA is a fantastic almond milk base.

I don't get anything earthy or dry at all...to me this is more of a candied almond that is very sweet.

Hmmm, why use FA Cream with Dairy Milk? Seems a bit redundant considering FA Cream nails the milky aspect.

It doesn't really nail it imo.

Adds wonderful texture and a slight taste but is too easily drowned out amongst stronger flavors. However if you go above 3% with it, it becomes harsh and unpleasant.

Interesting, I'm gonna whip this up and see whether it nails the milk.

testing it I thought to myself 1% is probably too low Love Flavor art flavorings and we'll be happy to give this one another go there might be a weird aggravaint that I am sensitive to in this flavor and that's why I am always getting that off antiseptic note.

I thought it's just me - i have the same problem with FA Almond. When i first bought it i tried to mix a simple almond cookie and was surprised when it tasted like old socks an saw dust with no almond to be found. So i thought it was the recipe. Then recently i purchased the ready mixed Rhodonite concentrate and mixed it up hoping to be blown away. Week and a half later i do my first test and the funny thing is the first puff i get the nice almond flavore - everyhing seems as it should be but then as i keep vaping it the almond disappears and i get that weird chalky flavor. Since i mixed some more recipes and it's always the same. It just doesn't work for my taste buds. Shame since it's such a popular flavor. Any other almond i can use to substitute FA's Almond? Thank you.

Rhodonite is probably be one recipe I cannot taste that off flavor if you happen to make it again and give it a very long steep really gets good at about 2 months

For a delicious dessert tobacco which uses FA Almond, check out the link. Don't get scared off from Wayne's description. It tastes nothing like a Marlboro and is not ashy in the least. Instead, it's a tasty change for you RY4 lovers. The profile is complex, layered and delightful.

Edit: Nice review /u/Chrisdvr1, as always.
