Nicotine reduction in premixed juice?
submitted about 9 years ago by SharePertinent

I usually just post in ECR but I think you could help me far more than they. Here's hoping you can.

I finally figured out that my recent health issues are caused by nicotine poisoning. Don't worry, nothing serious or irreversible - if you looked at the wikipedia page for nicotine poisoning, those are the temporary symptoms I'm talking about. I JUST made that connection today. I was taking headache medication, or naps to make it go away.. Now I know it happens when I chain vape without realizing it, like when I'm at work and zoned in on something but my rig is next to my mouse.

Like many of you, I stepped down my concentrations as I quit smoking. 18, 12, 10, etc. Now I'm on 3. I have been on 3 for a year, maybe more like 2 years iirc. Chain vaping now gives me nicotine poisoning symptoms. FML, in that regard.

All the juice I own is 3mg/ml. An obvious solution would be "don't chain vape" or "vape less", I get that. Puff counters, whatever.. yes its a frequency issue, not an amounts issue. I can't afford to repurchase juice at 1.5 because of this so I can continue my usual use patterns. I'd like to get to 0. I'd like to keep doing what I do now, maybe not 100% but to some of the same degree.

TL;DR Is there any way - at all - to cut the nicotine down in existing juice without ruining it entirely?

Cut your juices with VG. It will lessen flavor and nicotine concentration, which will taste odd at first. After a few days, however, you'll find yourself enjoying the flavor even more than before.

Thank you, I may try this. I'll use sidebar / search to try to find some decent VG.

Holy crap man... am I the only one that finds that VG crazy expensive...

The 16oz (~1L) one on Amazon.ca (sorry, I'm Canadian) is ~$60 and and can pick up a litre of good quality VG for like $15 elsewhere...

am I missing something special about this VG?

I do this to save money. I buy juice at 6mg, but have my local shop mix the flavours a little strong. Then I "water" it down to 3-4mg. Its not bad. I've been working though wal-mart's VG, which has a bit of a bready flavour.

My thought to this is you could buy a 3 mg and a 0 of the same type and mix them or something similar. VG would be a lot cheaper, though.

Do you DIY? How many flavors of juice do you have? I have several flavors on hand: ry4, tobacco, vanilla and a few fruits. I dilute my premixed juice by half and then add a few drops of a compatible flavor to boost it back up. Yeah, it's crude and if you use delicate or complex flavors it won't work, but for the simple stuff I've had some luck with it.

Not at all, it was something I was planning to get into when my existing juice was done with. I probably have.. a dozen or more flavors, none of them are single flavor, from brands you might expect to see - BX, BlueDot, Northland, 63Maui. That was another thing I considered, aside from DIY - buying a bulk flavor I know will mix well with most things I own, like a 120 of 0mg watermelon, or strawberry. That and 0mg mixes of the original flavors seem like my 2 best options at this point.

Sounds like a plan, Good luck

I have an old 18mg Honey Suckle My Cuke, diluted down to 3 mg with straight vg and it still tastes great. Kinda reminds me of noise and decibels example I heard. If you have a wall of 10 fans and turn 9 off, the sound does not drop by anywhere close to 90%. Seems to work w the flavor too.

All i can think of is adding PG/VG to the mix. It can ruin some delicate flavors, but after all nic concentration should be lower.

Thank you for the suggestion. The best I could come up with was buying 0 and mixing it in quantity with the original to make a double amount of 1.5. Thats.. sort of a solution, but not a great one.

That's the best solution imo, and the only way to keep the integrity of the flavor unchanged. You can dilute with VG like mentioned above, but that will lower the overall flavoring. Heating it to answer your later question, is a bad idea. It could potentially reduce the amount of active nicotine but it is also nicotine's worst enemy in respect to oxidation, which leaves unwanted flavor and harshness (ever heard of peppery nicotine?).

I really appreciate you commenting back on the heating thing. I know I'm reaching here. I have so many ml's of delicious juice - can't resell it. Can't return it. I could vape it forward, which I may do.. but the idea of repurchasing some of it just to change that one aspect is severely cringe inducing. Sounds like my best option.

It also depends on just how much you want to dilute your juice. If you do want to go all the way down to 1.5%, that method will work... But if you're just looking to step down to around ~2%, diluting with VG will accomplish that and let you stretch your juice budget as well, since the base components are cheap.

I actually had a similar situation to yours with the "nic poisoning"...I DIY and now mix at 2% and all is good... But before that when a had a bunch of 3% I actually made a mix of VG and PG to dilute my juice with...to keep the viscosity the same.

I made a batch of solution that was 70% VG and 30% PG (both are cheap, btw)... Then mixed that with my existing juice at a 2:1 ratio. The flavor was a bit muted, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I got so used to it that even now when I DIY I tend to scale down my flavors because I found I prefer it not as "heavy". My co-workers have also said that they don't mind my vapor as much as other people's because mine has almost no odor.

Well, this may be obvious but because you don't want to repurchase juices at 1.5mg but! You can buy the same brand/flavor in 0mg and mix them together to get 1.5mg.. doubling your total amount of juice without lowering flavor or losing juice.. just a thought.

Once you have rid of your existing juice, you could try buying 0% ejuice then buying a nic base that is a nic/vg/water mix. Rather than the more common nic/pg nic mixes to add to your juice.

buy them same juice in 0mg and mix it with the 3mg to get 1.5. adjusting the ratio of 0mg and 3mg will change the concentration (eg 2 bottles of 0mg and 1 of three will get you 1mg). That or like /u/skiddlzninja said cut it with VG, except I would say VG and PG in the same ratio as the liquid (won't dull the flavour as much). Or get into DIY, SUPER cheap and you could make liquid in whatever nic conc you want.

yeah get right into DIY, get some of wayne's pre-mixed recipes from ecig express, make some 1.5mg and away you go.

do you use a dripper? if so try switching to a tank / RDTA, it's really hard to use as much juice. you can chain vape the same number of hits and get less nic

My 1st post. Hope I submit in the right place ;) This may be radical, but ultraviolet might work see http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/ja01846a026

To anybody who reads this - what about heating it? Will that destroy some of the nicotine or all of it? Is there any way to purposely degrade the nicotine by content, or do I just ruin the juice taste as well as the nicotine as a whole? Hm

Don't heat it. That will not reduce the nicotine concentration, it will only make it oxidized which will taste like shit. Take the advice of skiddlz and cut it with vg

No, it will degrade the nicotine into nicotinic acid, ruining taste, adding throathit, and increasing niacin content, causing more flushing and headaches.
