How does 2 drops of Sucralose gunk up my coils so fast?
submitted about 9 years ago by TyGreeny

Atlantis 2 with Triton Clapton Coils vaped at 36.2 watts.

I had thyroid cancer in 2007 and the treatment def messed up my taste buds. I can taste but not as well as I used to.

I've made my own juice for the past year or so.

Recently tried some store bought juice sweetened with sucralose and liked it, except that it ruined my coils in two or three days (usually last 2 weeks for me.) I figured they just used way too much sweetener.

Bought some CAP Super Sweet. Added 2 drops to 30ml of juice. Burning through coils.

What is this devil juice doing to my coils?

I have been using NN Erythritol (VG 5%) for a month now and have had zero issues with gunk or cotton discoloration. When using other sweeteners with the same recipes (whether it be TFA Sweetener, Super Sweet, Sucra...,) I had to change my cotton and burn off my coil(s) sometimes daily. This is due to the low caramelization temp (around 350 degrees). Now, the same recipes utilizing erythritol (1500 degrees until carmelization) last exponentially longer, sometimes weeks before needing to change the cotton and or coil. People have had similar success with other temp resistant sweeteners like monk fruit extract or stevia. I have the same positive results regardless if I am using a RBA, RDA, RDTA, etc.

Yeah Erythritol has been working great for me as well. Completely recommend especially for those who vape claptons and shit. I can only imagine how long a clapton coil lasts when a commercial hypeman juice is dripped on it

Less than a day using Elements.

I have erythritol so I will try that. Wasn't the same type of sweetness last time I used it.

How much do you add?

I find that I like the 5% VG based solution at 5-8%. I don't even think it would be crazy to try 10. It is not as powerful as the others we use... I sometimes add .8%-1.2% of EM when I need an alternate sweetness note.

It's not the same. It will enhance, sweeten, or even kill certain aspects of the juice, but it won't increase the inherent sweetness of the whole thing

This is true. I have adjusted the percentage of some ingredients that are affected by the higher percentages of erythritol.

This is why I only use ethyl maltol for my sweetening.

Sucralose is the devil

That's sucralose for ya; also depends on what flavorings are in the mix but yeah, it gunks up coils real nice. As many have said, there are alternative sweeteners on the market that are available to us, provide some of the same benefits, and are much more heat resistant than sucralose.

In my review on Erythritol I cover kind of the general aspects of the different sweeteners we have, including Erythritol, Monkfruit, Stevia, EM, and Sucralose. It's just my experience and train of thought, so take it with a grain of salt, but I haven't found much other information out there regarding them so I thought it'd be a good experience to share.

OP is talking about Cap super sweet, my guess is the composition is different than Sweetener/TFA not to say that in this case either will not gunk coils.

I believe Cap Super Sweet is 20% sucralose instead of the usual 10%, so it would junk twice as fast as even the already quick junking sucralose.
