OK new mixers, this is your thread to ask any questions you want of the DIY eJuice community. All posts are allowed, but we still encourage you to use the sidebar and search features before asking any questions.
- Placing your first DIY order and want to make sure you have all you need?
- Not sure about how to mix your first bottle?
- Want to get started but aren't sure how?
- Any other questions? ... then this is the thread for you. FWIW, the answers to the first three questions will eventually be found in the wiki (still in development); link at the top of the page.
Ask away!
I'm not technically a "new mixer" but I've been out of the loop for a while...
So just exactly WTF is going on in regard to FDA regs vs the DIY community?
Do I need to start stockpiling yet?
Is nic going to be hard to get?
Are any of our big vendors (BCV/ECX/etc) shutting down?
I'm scared I'm going to putt along with my current stock and then by the time I'm ready to place a new order (in like 6 months) I'll come back and there will be no vendors left or something.
Nothing really.
No.
No.
~~BCV~~ BCF has already rebranded, and I believe ECX has plans to.
No worries, flavoring is used in all sorts of industries, and we can always use candy-making sites to order our supplies.
-Carolina Xtract, 100mg 120ml PG base
-Essential Depot 1 gallon USP VG
-Essential Depot 1 quart USP PG
-4xVestil BTL-RC-8 Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Round Squeeze Dispensers
-Transfer Pipette, 5.0ml, Graduated, Large Bulb, 145mm, Bulb Draw 3.4ml. 500 pack
-American Weigh Scale LB-501
I have plenty of 15ml, 30ml, and 120ml bottles ive saved from buying ejuice throughout my time.
Im getting about $50 in flavors from Bull City. Im copying a few recipes from here. Pink Lemonade and Watermelon Crack. I got 30ml sizes for each flavoring.
This will be my first time DIYing. Ive looked over the sidebar and browsed through here for awhile now. Let me know if these supplies will set me up pretty good for awhile please. All replies appreciated Thanks.
Looks like you did your homework. Only thing I can add is to be sure to follow the storage practices from the "all about nicotine" link. Keep it cold and dark. Looks like you are setup for a good while.
Welcome!
New mixer myself, so no great insights from me.
- Nitrile gloves
- Eye protection, apparently.
I'm curious what you're planning on using all those pipettes for, though. Flavors not coming in dropper bottles? Otherwise it looks like a great start to me. I made the mistake of getting equal quantities of PG/VG in a "kit" without thinking of how I was going to run out of VG really quickly if I mixed at 70/30.
Pipettes just seem like something that would be easy and cheap to have if I ever need em lol.
I also HIGHLY recommend getting the Nitrate gloves. They are cheap as hell and as a new mixer(experienced mixers as well) you will definitely have a few "spills" (usually just occasional drips of stuff getting on your hands). I usually put my nic in first and wear a glove on the hand im using to hand the nic and then afterwards I cap the nic back up and remove my glove.
I wear prescription glasses so i dont worry about safety glasses even though I do in fact have a pair. Some guy posted a day ago or so about getting a flavoring in his eye and I imagine it was painful so I would err on the side of caution.
As for the pipettes its never a bad idea to have them. They are cheap and useful. Some companies will send flavorings in glass vials with no droppers so its nice to have it as a back up.
>Eye protection, apparently.
Wow, yeah... Thx. First time seeing it. But yeah. If the concern is absorbtion, ha, your eyeball sure would do it, lol. May be the only way quicker than your lungs O_o
Note To Self: "Be more diligent with eye protection" ...I fail to wear them soldering often, too. :(
> Pink Lemonade
No you need to make Best Damn Pink Lemonade
What are these salts I keep hearing about? Is it like crystalized nic kinda like how citric acid comes? How would I use it? What are the benefits?
I'm gone for 2 months and suddenly this pops up.
There is already a thread about this. And they tell you what they are on NudeNicotine's site.
are 'what would you make with these flavours' questions allowed in this thread? of more specifically say I have an idea for a combination of 3 flavours, ok to ask what % people would go for, for the first version. if not, for a n00b, when you are having the first shot a new recipe (bearing in mind not having much knowledge of the concentrates) would it make sense to just go by the 'average used' for each flavour from somewhere like http://e-liquid-recipes.com/
Yeah, we prefer just lists of flavors and asking for suggestions to go into the other weekly thread, but if you just need a starting point for a recipe you already have in mind, go ahead and ask here.
I'd suggest using alltheflavors.com for average percentages, the users are generally more serious, and don't just share anything they decide to make. The numbers you'll get there will be a lot more accurate, and closer to actual usage percentages.
Either that, or divide all %s on ELR by 2.
So, I just got back from a week long business trip to find my Nude Nicotine shipment had finally arrived (after having already received my flavorings, bottles, scale, etc. prior to leaving for my trip).
So, this is my current stash: http://e-liquid-recipes.com/publicstash/70400
I've never mixed before, where should I start?
Here are the recipes I basically bought my flavorings for:
Mustard Tiger, an homage to Hobbe's Blood
Mikes Melons (Cuttwood Monster Melon Clone)
Should I start here, or do single flavor mini-batches first?
I apologize ahead of time if I posted this in the wrong place. I saw something about a "first time DIYer recipe" thread but after searching the subreddit couldn't find anything.
Thanks for any/all help!
SUPER beginner question... Basically getting into it because I live in Pittsburgh and PA is throwing the 40% tax at us, so I'm starting to gather supplies prior to October 1st... Got my nic base... Got Boston Round bottles with cone caps... I'm assuming I should clean the bottles before filling and putting away for long-term storage... Do I boil them or...? And do you guys use Argon when you break down to smaller bottles for storage?
It's also good idea to do your final rinse in distilled water. I like to use argon for breaking down nic in to smaller bottles for long term storage, but as skid said, it's not necessary.
Cool... Thanks for your time... I appreciate it... I'll try my damndest not to ask any stupid questions in the future... LOL
I just rinse them, but you can boil them if you want. Be sure to put them in the water while it's still cold, and slowly boil them.
Argon isn't necessary if you use polycone caps, and fill the bottles completely.
Answered my next question, as well... So there's no expansion at all when freezing? Thanks for your time... It's greatly appreciated...
> Basically getting into it because I live in Pittsburgh and PA is throwing the 40% tax at us
Me too, just mixed my first batch today, I only got a 120ml of 100mg/ml nic since I plan on nixing the nic quick. (sorry for the Suessary) I'm probably just refrigerating the nic and using as needed. Hopefully I don't need any more nic! I'm at 3mg now and lowering every month!
I grabbed a liter of 100mg... Eventually, I intend to get to 0, but I'm in no rush... Especially since that liter will last a HELL of a long time... LOL...
Koolada Liquid Concentrate [TFA] 30ml @ ECIX: $6.99
Kool Effects - Koolada [FW] 30ml @ Gremlin: $4.00
Are they the same thing, concentration/strength-wise?
Flavor substitution... for example:
(FA) Marshmallow <-> (TPA) Marshmallow
(FA) Marzipan <-> (INW) Marzipan
Will switching between brands generally work out alright or is it more likely to bork the recipe?
Each flavor company flavor has a different flavor from other flavor companies flavors of the same name. So for instance, FA Marshmallow is a bit more authentic tasting while CAP Marshmallow sweeter and TPA Marshmallow is somewhere in the middle (all according to my personal tastes)
So if a recipe calls for FA Marshmallow it will not taste the same if subbed with TPA Marshmallow at the same percentage due to the flavorings tasting different have have different strengths
Totally bork a good 90 percent of the time if you just use the same %'s. Some flavorings are just way more concentrated than others. They also taste differently and interact with other flavors differently. Their similarities reduce the borking rate if you use the right amounts, but the result will still be different than the original. Maybe not worse, maybe even better, but not the same.
Thanks. In these two cases the TPA/INW versions seem to be used in a lot more recipes than the FA versions. I was hoping I could get away with not having to buy both.
I'm not a new mixer but I didn't want to create a new thread just for a simple question. Do you guys have a recommendation for a substitute for TPA/TFA Hawaiian Drink? I was just informed by a rep for The Chosen Few that they no longer stock it because its flammable. I mixed up about 250 ml a few months ago and loved it.
What flavors or flavor combinations have the widest margin of error and are easy to just throw together and get something decent?
Basically most TFA fruits?
This morning I was out of juice and wanted to try something different from the recipes I've had in rotation lately, so in a hurry to leave for work I just threw this together
Ingredient|%| :--|:--| TFA Banana Cream|4%| TFA Strawberry|3%| TFA Strawberry ripe|3%| TFA Dragonfruit|2|
Which got me thinking about what flavors and flavor combinations are the easiest to work with without having to do much, if any, thinking or tweaking
Kinda random but does anyone use the Avery website to make labels? So far I've been saving each recipe as it's own file but I don't see any way to get more than one of them on the same sheet. I could use the edit one feature and make them all on the same sheet but they're unique and there's no way to copy/paste them around so trying to print just a few specific ones would be a pain. The best way I can see to do it involves printing them one by one. Any tips?
There is definitely an option to do this. That's how I make my labels and I print sheets at a time
I should've said I wanted to be able to print it with the current date and nic level. I'm sure when you're printing sheets they're all the same and handwriting in the date when you use them. I make small batches of different stuff and want to just edit the date for each one and line them up where I have space next on my sheet to print them in one go. There really doesn't seem to be an option to do that, unless the software is different. I might have to go the handwriting route, or one by one.
Sounds like you found some sort of special Avery software or something? That's not necessary. Just use MS word or Google docs and you can print whatever you'd like, wherever you want on the page of labels. More details here
New to the sub, I was tempted to make this it's own post, but the sidebar rules scared me into posting it in this thread.
So my first order of true flavourings arrived at work this morning. Up until now I've just been mixing up the flavour concentrates from Mt Baker Vapor, which I don't think is in the same league as mixing from scratch.
I've been thinking of a few recipes while I waited for this stuff to arrive and when I get home from work I'm going to give them a go. If anyone wants to give me some feedback on these it would be much appreciated. ie, do the percentages look like they'll work for what the flavour is supposed to be.
Jelly Donut:|--| :--|:--| Ingredient|%| Frosted Donut (TFA)|5%| Boysenberry Deluxe (TFA)|1.5%| Strawberry - Ripe (TFA)|1.5%| Meringue (TFA)|1%|
Chocolate Milkshake:|--| :--|:--| Ingredient|%| Double Chocolate - Clear (TFA)|3%| Milk Chocolate (TFA)|2%| Bavarian Cream (TFA)|1.5%| Vanilla Custard (TFA)|1.5%| Malted Milk - Conc (TFA)|1%| Dairy/Milk (TFA)|1%|
Now that I think about it I wish I had ordered some vanilla bean ice cream from TFA as well because that would go well in the milkshake I reckon.
Edit: I tried both these recipes and they're not bad. in the Jelly Donut, the donut flavour is overpowered by the fruits so that needs bumping up a little, maybe to 6 or 7 percent. The Chocolate milkshake is alright, but tastes more like unsweetened cocoa than a milkshake, although maybe not quite that bitter. Definitely needs something like Vanilla Bean Ice Cream to sweeten it up and make it a little more milkshake tasting. I made 10mL of each and have used half, will steep the rest for a week and see what they're like then.
You prob won't even get any strawberry. Ripe is like the granddaddy of strawberries, but it is weak. Have only read bad things about donut, so never bought it. And be ready to be disappointed with the chocolates, notoriously hard flavor to find. I gave up. And good luck with those milks:)
So my reply isn't totally negative, here is the best advice I have. Before mixing anything, single flavor test each and every flavor standalone. Preferably at varying %. Yes, it will take some extra time. But it will help you tremendously if you know how each flavor tastes. As you work thru them, you may start to have ideas and good pairings come to mind. I just got thru mixing 3 new to me flavors, so I can better understand what to do with them.
This thread pops up new each week (well, not this time /u/skiddlzninja). Use those links listed as well as posting your stash for some suggested recipes.
Welcome!
Thanks for the feedback. I have a bunch of other flavours as well as the above (40 all up, I went a little mad), but these are the more complex recipes that I came up with and wanted to get feedback on. Don't really need to ask about single/double flavour recipes as those are relatively simple to tweak.
And yeah, I plan on mixing up most flavours individually to taste test at different percentages.
Anyway, I'll probably still give these two a go for shits & giggles. Will post an update when I do.
Have you already tried other recipes with those same profiles? Or any recipes, in general? If you haven't, I'd start there. Conceptual recipes are better when you have a better understanding of how the flavors work with one another.
Obviously it won't set you back much to just mix them up, but it will be a PITA to pinpoint what is not working if you don't already know what works.
Definitely get VBIC, it's a versatile flavor :)
Thanks for the feedback. I have done a little mixing over the last couple months, but that was all with Mt Baker Vapors flavour concentrates and not pure flavours. Some of those were similar to some of what I've got in these recipes but more of them were fruit flavours.
I think I'll give these two a go as a jumping off point anyway and see where I land. If they're shit then I know I need to do some more testing.
Looking for help with a recipe. It's just too harsh out of a good tank (Aromamizer)
3% TFA Bavarian Cream 2% TFA Banana Cream 3% TFA Marshmallow 2% TFA Banana Ripe 4% CAP Sweet Strawberry 0.5% TFA Sweetner 8% CAP Vanilla Custard
Vaping it out of A MTL RTA like a Taifun GT2 is alright but vaping it out of a DL RTA like a Griffin or Aromamizer is just too damn harsh. I mixed at 6mg 30/70 pg/vg
This is the third attempt, adding the marshmallow and sweetner. Any advice?
I recommend cutting the Bavarian and VC in half, and that Ripe is better at 1% or less. Also omit the sweetner. And steep for at least 2 weeks. Idk know how long you steeped your mix, but sometimes harshness will smooth out with a good steep.. Not to mention VC needs time to mature.
Whenever I have custard's or creams in a mix I leave it sit for a month.
Thanks for the advice I will try that. Just to be clear leave everything else as is?
Yes. I should add that Cap SS is loved or hated. Try standalone at 4% to see if it is harsh to you. If it is, try again in a couple weeks.
Ecigexpress has a new line, and the Strawberry Sweet is outstanding. My current go to strawberry. No harshness or chemical taste.
Hey guy I could use some help. Math is not my strong suit. I am learning that less is more and I want to scale down my recipes to see how little flavor I can mix to get the same desired flavor. Could someone help me understand how to scale down a recipe? TIA!
Did i use too much menthol? I used :
6ml FW Menthol
1ml FW Candy Cane
120ml
MAX VG 0mg
My friend says i used way too much menthol to the point its a waste of concentrate but i think its fine.
My question pertains to flavor percent.
I have been using MBV peach for 3 years. I recently got FW peach and mixed it 15% then 20% because on their site it says to mix the flavor like 15-40%. It just tastes...different. is this way too much flavor??
best thing to do would be to start by mixing 5% in a 10mL bottle. Try it out then increase or decrease accordingly. Most peach flavors, to me, either are a bit harsh or have this socks or old feet taste.
You think? Like I said it's been 3 years solely on this one flavor so I know how it should taste. I can do that, I just always figured it needed more than 5%?
You're just going to have to try to find out. I know we all say MBV just uses single flavoring from FW for their juices, but who knows. The vg, pg, and nic you are using could be different than what they use and it may be throwing the flavor off as well.
I'm wanting to try to make a clone of my all time favorite juice Amalfi by bigglesworth labs " a rich, delicious almond cake with a slight note of apricot jam layered in" I'm fairly new to diy and I'm wondering what flavors I should order as a starting point. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
I've been looking for the same recipe. I found one for battenburg cake which sounds similar but I haven't tried it yet.
Mind linking it for me?
Battenberg cake sounds delicious... Try this - 4% CAP Sugar Cookie 1% FA Nonna's Cake 1% CAP Vanilla Custard 1% FLV Boysenberry 1.5% TFA Apricot 0.75% INW Marzipan 0.50% FA Meringue
And http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/486998/Titch%2527s+battenberg+V1
Let me know how they are!
Say for example i use flavourart with all my recipes. But the question is the same for all. Why if i use a single flavor it is recommended 3 to 6% total flavourings if i go up it's a mess. However i see a lot of recipes with total flavourings up to 14 to 17%. So the question is why this huge difference in juice % when using a single rather than mixing a lot?
Single flavoring mixes are usually looking for a strong, forward taste that stands on its own. These percents will typically be slightly higher than the same flavor used as part of a mix. When mixing you don't want any one flavor to completely overwhelm the others, you want balance. As for flavor totals... This can be tricky because there's no "correct" flavor total in a general sense. It's highly dependent on the flavors used in the mix. I try to stay as low as possible while retaining flavor. Some flavors though, just won't show up at all until 6% or something, maybe higher. If you try mixing several of those flavors together your flavor total is going to climb fast. This is one of the reasons everyone here recommends single flavor testing. To get an idea which percentages mean what for each flavor. You can use the average percent used found at ELR or ATF as a starting point, but taste is so subjective you should do it yourself as well.
Because you are overloading the juice with one single aroma molecule. For instance, in low amounts a particular aroma volatile is lavender. At double that same percentage, that SAME aroma volatile portrays rotting, burnt corpses and bile. The aroma volatile for yogurt and any diketone-free creams is also the aroma of digestive fluid in humans.
It's all about moderation.
Vaping my second batch of Wayne's pry4, having the same issue as the first one: flavor is too strong at first, then it completely goes away at about half a bottle (30ml). I don't vape it exclusively so my taste buds don't get used to it. It's also steeped for about three weeks. Could it be that sometimes I carry the bottle in my pocket? It can get pretty hot here.
I know I'm a little late on this but like skidd said, the juice is overloading your taste. When I find a juice does this I usually drink a lot more water. Drinking a fair amount of ice water when the taste starts fading really helps the flavor come back again for me.
This is such a dumb question and theres 2, the first is how do you dilute the flavors and any diluting that ill need to do actually, im placing my order friday one from liquid barn and the other from bull city. The second is...how do i figure out the percentage in mls? Like 2% of flavor x =?mls, if that makes any sense. This is a bit of a klusterfuck for me but im trying to learn as much as possible.
Dilution is what you are doing when you add to your vg/pg/nic. As far as % to mls, you need a calculator. If you are using a pc, then I recommend the third one down in the sidebar. If you are using a mobile device then alltheflavors.com or eliquidrecipes.com have web-based calculators.
Awesome thanks for actually being helpful, i was confused because the site said all the flavors needed diluted before use. Also, i watched the new amsterdam vapes video which has a link to a nice calculator. Idk if youve seen it or not but it was rather helpful and he mentioned %=mls which was also incredibly helpful. So thanks, i think im ready, now to wait for payday lol
Diluting flavors means mixing them with PG/VG. It is done just by mixing ejuice.
You get a percentage by putting amount of flavor x/total volume of the bottle being made.
And as said, read the sidebar, you're missing a lot of information that is stated in simple terms there.
Hello guys. I'm pretty new at DIY job, I made some 4 mixes with my friend and letting them steep for 1 week. Flavors are:
- Biscotti- Hazelnut
- Peach- Peppermint
- Fruit Circles With Milk
- Sugar Cookie V2 All mixed with 3 mg n base. I will be vaping Sugar cookie and Fruit Circles with Milk as single flavor. Do you think it would be harsh or would it be fine?
I've been looking in to DIY'ing for a couple weeks now, but holding off on ordering supplies since I'm moving next week. I'm not sure if I want to mix by weight or volume, but I'm leaning towards weight. Is this the way to go? If so, what equipment should I get? Obviously, I'll need a scale, but what else would you suggest? Beakers, pipettes, syringes....
*edit: words
Bottles that are easy to dispense from are pretty important to me when mixing by weight. More important than pipettes or anything other than a scale. Get a good 8oz or so squeeze bottle for VG, and extra plastic 15ml bottles for flavors that come in glass bottles. Get Yorker caps for any 4oz flavors you have.

People vape standalone flavors all the time. IME Graham Cracker clear is kind of a boring standalone flavor that I would get tried of rather quickly, but there's nothing wrong with it if you like it. Use a calculator (read the sidebar, it has links to some) for the amounts of PG and VG to use. The right % of those will vary largely depending on your setup. As for the percent of Graham Cracker to input into the calculator, you should try various percents and see which one you like best. I'd start with 3%, 5%, and 7.5% on that one.
TFA Graham Cracker Clear is the only one of those three I've tried. It really tastes like a graham cracker. The DX version has no diketones and probably tastes like clear with a little barf added to it. The regular graham cracker flavor (not clear) is not recommended, I think due to severe coil-gunking and maybe it tastes bad as well, not sure.

I've always wondered what makes a juice taste fuller, in the sense that some of the juices I've found taste a lot more hearty than most. it it just different flavors or am i missing out on something important that makes those few juices that way?
Many many variables/additives/flavors. Without going into all that, the MOST important thing IME is time. Especially desserts/bakery creamy custardy juices. These usually become really different after a month or two. Thicker, richer, smoother with some good mouthfeel.
So many times I read people say that they dont have time to steep that long. Really? Where are you gonna be in a couple months? Are you qiving up vaping? My favorites I make 100mls at once, and I currently have at least 4 of those steeping for 1-2 months. And in between I vape some of the wonderful recipes that are posted here, as well as my experiments.
Is there any trustworthy 'one stop shops' for stuff like menthol crystals, malic acid, tartaric acid, stevia, ethyl malthol, et cetera? I see that nude nicotine has some of these but not all.
I went to NudeNicotine
Some of you are going to equate this to heresy but I don't care much for the 5-6 ingredient mixes that get posted on here a lot. I'm more a guy who mixes up single flavor juice. Get a 100 ml bottle, measure out my base, dump the bottle of flavoring in there and done. What are some brands that work well for this? I tried some Capella but at 10%, they lack flavor.
Real Flavors
The problem is that those aren't available here. I'm in Europe so the market is not as big as it is in the US. Any 'bigger' brands that are more likely to be available here?
Hi I am a new mixer. I've been doing a ton of research and have gotten a grasp about how certain flavorings work in mixes. I've made some really awesome recipes but I'm working on a clone right now and I'm having some trouble. I'm trying to figure out how to make dojo ronin. It's kind of like a very sweet and delicious lucky charms vape. I've seen online that the ingredients needed to make this is Lucky Leprechaun Cereal TPA, Captain Cereal FW, Marshmallow TPA, Sweet Cream TPA, and sweetener. If anyone could help me work on the right percentages or give me some advice on how to tweek this recipe that would be great. I can't quite get the amount of flavor I need for some reason. My best attempt at this was Lucky at 2%, captain at .5%, marshmallow at 2.5%, sweet cream at .5% and sweetener at .5%. Im thinking that maybe I need to rework some of the flavors. Like instead I might try FA marshmallow rather than TPA. The marshmallow in dojo is realllly intense it seems like. So idk if anyone has ever made this or has other advice on how to go about cloning a recipe better that'd be awesome.
Fa marshmallow is the best one for this application I highly suggest getting it if you want a more pronounced marshmallow feel. This recipe also is best if steeped for 1 or 2 weeks.

Not quite a mixing questions, but since it is an ingredient question, I thought it would be better posted here instead of ECR.
I got a bottle of juice from a vendor during the giveaway storm last week. It is raspberry lemonade. When I opened the package I was shocked at how red it was. I have vaped other raspberry juices, and I haven't seen one this color. I contacted the vendor to ask about this, and they said that it was not food coloring, but the color of the juice.
Does anyone know if there is a raspberry concentrate that will tinge a juice this red?
Thanks!
I'm not an expert on every single flavor out there but I'm 99.9% sure they lied to you and that is food coloring. Flavors usually go in the areas between clear to dark brown.
That's what I figured. I have had a bunch of raspberry flavored juices, and none of them have been red.
Either it actually is food coloring or the nic is crazy oxidized already
It's possible that the company they bought the flavor from is the one who added the color.
I'm aware of about 6500 different flavors that could be used to make eLiquid, so who knows where they got it, but many of the flavorings target at candy makers have food coloring added to them so there is that.
Safe bet that it is food coloring in there making it red though.
Im quite new and I have succeeded only twice of the 9 times I've made a small batch. Flavor west menthol and liqorice tasted like I wanted and I was happy. Then I tried tfa and fa. I've tried various pg/vg ratios, removing nic, different bottles, not shaking at all and just letting them steep, steeping times from 3-30 days and breathing too. My tfa and fa fruit liquids always end up having a perfume taste and I've never tasted any fruit in them. What am I doing wrong?
Sounds like you may be mixing them at too high of a percentage. What recipes are you using. Show us some percentages you are using of each flavor so we can better gauge what's wrong with the juice/recipe
I've tried precentages ranging from 2 to 15 and I've done no mixing between the flavors. Just pure fa watermelon for example I first tried 5% in 70vg (like my friend whose mix tasted great) and after a month and a week it is still steeping and has no flavor. On many forums people had the same issue and suggested trying it around 2% and that didn't work either. Then I tried tfa watermelon the same way and while it tasted a bit like watermelon it still tastes odd and if I smell it my nose burns. Fa mad fruit (5% 80vg) tastes ok but still gives me a stinging burn to the nose and throat. I've also tried removing nicotine and even when I use it I keep it at 3mg.
Where did you order these flavors from? I would say you got a bad batch but multiple flavors having no flavor like that is a bit odd. Also what nic are you using. 2% for FA and 5% for TFA should be more than enough and single flavor fruit e-liquids should definitely be vapeable with an overnight steep if not immediately
We're about to make Nicotine containing e-liquid explicitly legal in New Zealand. Which is awesome. Unfortunately most of our e-liquid is overly sweet and full of colouring's.
I'm curious, how do flavour concentrates change or age after being mixed?
Eg.
Lets say that Phil makes really good e-liquid. Every time I order a bottle he sends it via courier to the bottom of the world where I live, and it's great. I get it a week after mixing and it's good to vape.
If I was to have Phil send me a pre-mixed bottle of their flavour concentrates (their e-liquid without the PG/VG/Nic), would I be able to mix them into PG/VG/Nic locally at the same ratios and end up with the same product? Would the flavour be different simply because the concentrates had already been mixed before being added to the PG/VG/Nic? Does the source ot PG/VG/Nic influence the final flavour?
EDIT: Just realised this is a week old. I'll ask in the newer thread tomorrow as well.
Hey Gods of Reddit!! I wonder if you could help me, I've been searching for a good cupcake man clone for absolutely ages with no avail to it myself as I am a very very new DIY'er. I have trawled every where I can with no results! Could you possibly help? Is this something you have already done/discussed of so I couldn't find it and could you link it? Thanks guys!
You should post this in the proper monthly clone request thread.

NO nicotine scenario: Say for example i make 100ml of eliquid with 80% VG, 17% PG and 3% single PG based flavor. (So in the end is a 80-20) I make that 100ml bottle and i realize that 3% of that particular flavor is too much and i want to dilute the juice to peace down the flavor at 2% mantaining exactly the old proportions. How do i do that?
I have done some reading up but cannot seem to find a solid yes or no to my question. Has anyone successfully extracted clove in a VG or VG and water solution?
I don't know of any VG based Clove flavoring and if you're talking about extracting it yourself, that's a little beyond a "New Mixer" question. Perhaps try http://store.flavorah.com/concentrated-clove-flavor if you're just trying to avoid as much PG as possible.
Just made my first batch of liquids. They have been steeping for two weeks. The first bottle I tested, taste pretty good, but is missing the sweetness.
When I add sweetner.(tpa sweetner)
Do I have to wait for them to steep again?
Dude... the first time you made juice and you waited 2 weeks to try it? That's some willpower. I know I can't wait 2 weeks whenever I make a batch of new flavors. Don't be afraid of fresh juice, a lot of it is pretty good just gets better with time. Might even be a good idea to get some recipes that work well as a shake and vape so you have something to go to while other flavors steep.
It was pretty hard not to try them. My way of thinking was. If I can wait two weeks for the first batch. By the time I'm half way through it. My second batch will be steeped.
I probably wouldn't even try them all this week. I want to get to know my single flavour testers first.
I was wondering if some one could answer a question on total flavor percentages per batch please? I've searched and have found what I thought were answers but my batches are still really muted and bland. So my question what percentage of flavor do you use per let's say 50ml's, 70vg/30pg 3mg nicotine? Does this total percentage vary depending on batch size?
Right now I'm mixing (70vg/30pg 3mg nicotine) with a total flavors used percentage equals 18%. That is no matter the bottle size or amounts of flavors used I formulate so my total flavors are as closed to 18% give or take but my stuff is just bland and tasteless. Please help, thanks in advance!!
It could be that you are using certain concentrates at too high of a percentage or that you are mixing things together that fight, rather than complement eachother. You could have too many heavy-hitting players in the recipe and are overloading your senses. Go ahead and share an example. It is the best way to get an analysis of what may be going wrong. Total percentage is a guideline, not a rule and it is arrived at by accounting for factors listed above.
Edit: and no, percentages don't typically vary by batch size.
You never want to set a total flavor percentage target. Some flavors are perfect at 2% and others need 10% just to be noticeable. If, for example, you're using two flavors in a mix and one of them happens to be menthol; you wouldn't want to have the right amount of one flavor (say 10%) and finish it off with 8% menthol to hit your target. That would be horrid. If you look up a flavor on Alltheflavors or ELR you can see examples of usage and get a ballpark estimate of where you should start.
I've heard of people adding nicotine after steeping periods. I've seen arguements for and against this- mostly that overall notes can be affected. It makes sense to me in a preservative sense alone, from what I understand nicotine can degrade/evaporate over time. So, is adding nicotine right before I vape a good idea, or will it really change the overall flavor?
I've never seen any good arguments against the idea. If you're letting a bottle steep for a week, it seems unnecessary. If it's a custard and you want it to sit around for a several weeks or a month it might be beneficial. Plenty of recipes are Shake & Vape certified, so obviously adding nic right before vaping is fine. Just make sure you shake it thoroughly.
