DIY is AMAZING, I'm speechless
submitted almost 9 years ago by DGsirb1978

Just wanted to say thanks to the few people from here that encouraged me to try DIY! I started this morning, first batch is fantastic fresh, can't wait to try it steeped. Second batch fantastic! Third try and I just figured out that one of my favorite juices from a good well respected company everyone knows here is a basic 5 total ingredient shake and vape. This is gonna be fun! Well thanks everyone, I'm truly in awe here, I love it!

Edit: Sorry guys, but this is really exciting to me!

Thanks Man, I'm sure it seems corny, but I just never expected to be able to mix up this kind of quality juice

Im actually in a funk right now but a friend of mine had Telios's crunch and I handed him a clone (not my recipe) and he thought I dripped his juice when he wasn't looking. So there's that.

I totally believe it now that I'm a Rookie DIY'er. I can't believe how simple my current ADV that I've been buying from a vendor is to make. Literally 5 ingredients if you count VG, PG, and Nic.

Dude I'm HOOKED! I mean everything VAPING already had me, but now it's a whole other level, I can't shut up about it either. I know my girl is sick of hearing about it, HAHA

Welcome to the DIY lie. DIY saves you money! spends hundreds of dollars on flavours

I like that.... 'the great obsession'. I'm on day 33 vaping (after smoking 27 years) and just placed my first DIY order on Friday -- I'm excited. After placing the orders I started researching RTA's and realized that this had turned into a hobby. :)

1 points

by mlNikonalmost 9 years ago

congratulations man! not smoking is the shit. this community and the several fb groups is great, you'll learn a lot. Just do tons of research. I am reading about diy more than actually mixing.

by Raiden161almost 9 years ago

Thanks! I learned of the FDA crap about a week into vaping -- got scared, researched options to avoid going back to cigs, found DIY e-Juice, and JUST placed a $200 order.

I'm laughing my tail off.... government's pissed they're missing out on money, and I just ordered enough for over 1 year of juice -- the FDA can suck my vape ;)

Man, I used to like it. I loved it actually. But the past few months it just doesn't agree with me. I remember you said something about a revision? How's that coming along?

1 points

by gudgeon_fancieralmost 9 years ago

Not Op but Shortdick, lol, it is easily one of favourite recipes. Thanks for sharing it with us dude. Never eaten a Strawberry Shortcake Bar, I'm from the uk but I just love the blend of strawberry, vanilla cream and biscuit, particularly the INW Biscuit in there.

Out of interest do you have a favourite of your recipes?

1 points

by gudgeon_fancieralmost 9 years ago

All very good choices! I've been DIY'ing for a couple of years. Mustard Milk used to be one of my favourites, I'm particularly keen on Strawberry Shortcake bar also. I highly recommend [Rhodonite] (http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/180127/Rhodonite+by+%255B+ENYAWREKLAW+%255D) by u/enyawreklaw

It requires a fair few flavours that you may not have but it is a very interesting, nuanced flavour and changed the way I think about balancing flavours.

I figured out why my flavor stash wasn't working right on eliquid-recipes.com, I hadn't formatted some of my flavors correctly, all fixed now. Question, do you prefer that site or All The Flavors, or just use both?

Thanks

Yeah that Mustard Milk is being sold by a vendor as one of their juices. I just stumbled upon the recipe, made it and couldn't believe it was dead on one of my current ADV's that I buy

1 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

I know, pretty simple, but I had to use what I have on hand and it's my first attempts at ANYTHING

1 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

That Mustard Milk I swear is the recipe to one of my favorite juices from a respected vendor everyone knows. If not it's so close you can't tell a difference and one of the other variations of it might be it

1 points

by gudgeon_fancieralmost 9 years ago

Yeah I was stunned to have such a good flavour from just two flavourings. I tried Strawberry (Ripe) as well as standard Strawberry. Standard Strawberry definitely worked best.

I highly recommend buying 50-100 ml of Strawberry, Strawberry (Ripe) and Bavarian Cream. You will most likely find yourself using them a lot! Particularly if you like the recipes you've made already.

I also highly recommend [Bombie's Nana Cream] (http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/49573/Bombies+%2527nana+cream) by u/fizzmustard . That used to be one of my ADV's.

Also you can make good flavours just from single flavour recipes like Concord Grape from Capella.

2 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

Oh wow, I have all of those for Bombies Nana Cream, thanks so much! Have you found that if you select "what can I make" on ATF or DIY-Recipes, that it doesn't show all the recipes you can make? Is that because I'm not a Pro subscriber?

Edit: I realized my flavors weren't formatted correctly on e-liquid-recipes.com, so all recipes were not showing. All corrected now, over 479 recipes showing up now, Yay! Do people prefer one site over the other btw?

2 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

I made that Nana Cream and love it. On my last order I took your advice and bought bigger bottles of both Strawberries, plus CAP Sugar Cookie.

1 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

Yeah those are what I actually have the most of. I bought a bunch of flavoring a from someone on ecig classifieds about a month or so ago, and boy am I glad I did now!

awesome man this community is the only reason im succeeding at all at diy ejuice. U should try to make ur own cheesecake mix using cap NY cheesecake. It's delicious trust me and VERY easy to mix with imo. My very first mix was a raspberry cheesecake with only

  • CAP ny cheesecake

  • CAP raspberry

  • TFA marshmallow (for mouthfeel, rounding, and sweetness)

  • TFA graham cracker (clear)

    and it was delicious!!!

Congrats and Good LucK!!!

Sounds good dude, I may have to try this. Maybe make a fruits of the forest fruit profile to go with the cheesecake base.

i just started DIY too and none of my juices taste like anything and im pretty bummed. yes I've let everything steep atleast a week or so. i really just don't taste anything. and i don't think it's me because I've had actual flavors of what im going for and i taste them all beautifully. idk, maybe someone can help me out.

by probywan1337almost 9 years agoI will rip you a new one if you don't use the sidebar & search.

Are you using too much flavoring? What %s? No taste is common with beginners who use too much flavoring

We'll figure it out. Lots of people here to help you!

1 points

by sadboysalalmost 9 years ago

I've been trying to get a good unicorn milk out of just TFA flavors so i used this. same percentages. mixed by weight. tried in 3 and 6 nic. 6 is more muted than 3, using 100% pg nudenicotine. http://m.imgur.com/9wgBCpp

edit: i forgot the image lol

2 points

by somethingblendalmost 9 years ago

Personally I'd be VERY surprised if you're tasting anything other than strawberry. To me, the TFA strawberry is really strong, so to my taste 10% is pretty high. I might suggest dropping down to maybe 6-7%.

I assume you're using some type of calculator. Care to share your inputs/outputs? I'm just curious to see if anything seems off at a glance.

Ive never found SB Ripe to be great stand alone, i use it more for smell in a recipe than taste. Were i to mix this, which i havent, i would do something like this:

  • 4% SB Ripe
  • 3% SB
  • 3% Cheesecake
  • 2% BC
  • 1% SC
  • 2% Custard

I also wouldnt keep it all TPA, i would use SB Sweet (CAP), Vanilla Custard V1 (CAP) and NY Cheesecake (CAP). I prefer these flavorings over the ones you are using in this mix. You could sub out the BC and SC for a good Vanilla Bean Ice Cream from either TPA or Liquid Barn or even Butter Cream (CAP), at a lower %.

This mix would require some lengthy curing time, personally i wouldnt touch it for a month because of the high % of creams.

Just some quick thoughts for ya.

EDIT: A quick edit, i doubt the SC is even needed, the mix should be creamy and sweet enough from the Cheesecake, BC and VC.

Now im going to sleep before i wake up with key imprints on my forehead, again. Hope that helps.

Make a post about it in [the new mixer's thread] (https://redd.it/4vm4wk) and include what recipes you've made (flavors, brands, percentages).

1 points

by sadboysalalmost 9 years ago

you're right, i apologize.

2 points

by leapinglabratsalmost 9 years ago

No need, just saying you'll have better luck there :) To briefly touch on the recipe you linked though, it's not very flavorful to begin with, being very heavy on creams which is more about mouthfeel. TFA Sweet Cream could be muting the strawberry. Some even have trouble tasting strawberry, which in this case would leave you with nothing but cream.

What was the first batch that made you wow?

I made some Mother unicorn milk, so good.

1 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

Same, my very first batch ever, at about 8am this morning.

Mothers Unicorn Milk was the very first recipe I've ever attempted, and it is great. Can't wait until it gets a little steep time on it, probably gonna be a lot better too!

Good for you, always nice when mixes work well the first time!

Dont get discouraged if something you mix that sucks. It happens to all of us no matter how long we have been mixing.

All part of the process, it's fun trying new things though. I'll keep at it. Thanks for the tip!

by LadyAlektoalmost 9 years ago

Hahaha oh yeah, been thinking that the whole week as well

This sub is a treasure trove of information

Having your own juice and flavour is definitely a whole nother vaping experience

Just wish i had learned earlier how important viscosity is in a juice (nearly ruined a coil, just added 10% water to my 50/50 base and its fantastic)

1 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

Care to elaborate? So it was too thick?

1 points

by LadyAlektoalmost 9 years ago

Got pretty cold in my apartment over the night and it just didnt vape properly, nearly burning out the coil

Now i added some water into my juice and it hasnt happened since, while ontop it vapes far nicer and smoother

I just started yesterday too! I made a huge order for all my diy stuff a week ago all I had to do was use the sidebar it was very easy.

I made: Rhodonite

Watermelon crack clone

Bronuts

Vanilla almond milk

Nana Cream

Letting a few of those steep more but overall I'm so happy to of fallen into this rabbit hole. A huge thanks to this whole community for creating this legendary subreddit.

1 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

Mmmm, those all sound tasty! All of mine are great freshly mixed, but I bet they are going to be amazing once they steep

1 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

How do you like the Bronuts? I'm missing Chocolate Glazed Donut only and that's the ONLY flavor I forgot to add tonight when I made my big order😞

1 points

by HBWSucksalmost 9 years ago

It's ok, definitely not a ADV it's very rich to me. I added a few drops of INW raspberry to the bottle I made and I liked it a lot more.

1 points

by DGsirb1978almost 9 years ago

I'll keep that in mind, pretty sure I have some INW raspberry, if not its in my current order which is on the way

Awesome I just mixed up my first 3 last night myself and one I won't touch for a week as that was recommended steep time and the other 2 not bad as shake and vape! Pretty excited myself!
