Flavor West Fruit Rings vs TFA Fruit Circles
submitted about 9 years ago by Labubs

I've heard FW's is the better, and would like to try it as a replacement for TFA in a recipe like Tongue Fuck(TFA used at 7%, I usually bring it just below 6 and add EM to curb the Lemon). However, I don't want to throw 7% in and it be way too strong, or throw 3% in and it be way too weak. So, for a recipe like Tongue Fuck, what would the recommended % be for FW Rings vs TFA's 7% Circles?

I only got a small tester to see if it really is better, so don't have much to waste....or, if you believe FW wont work in Tongue Fuck, is there another Pebbles type cereal that uses it? I rarely go for cereals anymore, but the urge does come back every once in a while and would very much apreciate any first hand accounts substituting or using FW's in another recipe perhaps. Searching didn't turn up much, just that it the "better cereal flavor". Unfortunately I don't vape cereal enough to go all in with the hazelnuts and marzipans and tangerines etc, so that's basically what I got to work with. Any help much appreciated, thank you

To be honest, fw fruit rings almost tastes exactly the same to TFA fruit circles to me.

I prefer TFA fruit circles with milk but that isn't great either.

I assumed this would be the case, that those particular 3 would be all about the same level of crappiness lol. Have you tried this recipe? It goes as follows Recipe 1: 2% Hazelnut (FW) 2% Meringue (FA) 1.5% Bergamot (FA) 1% Orange (FA) 1% Sweet Tangerine (CAP) 3% Lemon (FE) 2% Yellow Cake (FW)

If not, you should. If so, have you changed anything about it that makes it better in your opinion?

That's /u/jackster's Cereal Killa clone from what I have always seen. That is my GO TO for a perfect Froot Loops. Now I gotta retry /u/NotCharlesManson's Pebbles. I mixed it a couple months ago, but something was off. It had to be that I accidentally mixed a flavor in mg and not grams. I've heard WAY too many good things about that recipe for it to not taste like what everyone says it does.

I think the yellow cake, meringue and bergamont are the "essential" flavors. I wouldn't doubt that using different orange and lemon flavors would yield great results

I've heard good things about FW Fruity Flakes.

Well shit, seems I may have ordered the wrong flavor. No matter, I still enjoy Tongue Fuck with more cream/meringue and slightly less Rings, and will experiment with the FW Rings and the other small tweaks I've made to the recipe myself. Two bottles side by side I think. Hopefully more digging will reveal a starting % for FW's version vs TFA's, though today I should mix up a Caramel heavy RY4 , too many bright fruits in my steep boxes currently, if I mix bakeries and dessert now they will be just right for my palate when I finish the bottles already made. Fruity Flakes...I suppose if I had ordered that instead the Crunchy Berry would've been unnecessary. Luckily they were only 30mls. Well, looks like its mixing some Fried Ice Cream and a few Custards(Third World sounds good) to sit for a while today. Its been too many Dragonfruits Strawberries and Lemons lately, time to flip to the other side.

You've got the right one. While it's not perfect, it's much better than TFA. I don't get any lemon pledge taste from it. But taste is subjective, blah blah blah.

4 or 5% should work for you

Thanks for this, will definitely give it a shot! Been a while since I broke out the 10ml bottles, but there's a few things I'm meaning to try and don't want to make 60ml(my usual batch size) of something that didn't work as intended. But I have faith this flavor can only be better in the way I usually use TFA's and also some ideas from responses here. Thanks again!

I have TFA Fruit Circles too. As well as TFA Berry Crunch. The Fruit Circles is waaaay to lemony. It does die down after a week steep, but using it solely as a fruity cereal top note, in my experience, is no good.

I have found that using TFA Fruit Circles at around 2%-3% with Berry Crunch at 5%-6% creates a nice Fruity Pebbles-esque taste. Much closer to Fruity Pebbles than Froot Loops. I feel that Froot Loops is a little more lemony, so if that's what you're going for, maybe Fruit Circles would be okay at 4%.

I have forever been on the hunt to find that Fruity Pebbles cereal note, but have not gotten as close as I'd like to. I need to try FW Fruity Flakes though because I hear it's definitely closer to Fruity Pebbles than others, and it doesn't have that strong chemical lemony taste like TFA Fruit Circles.

Yeah, TFA's is definitely the Lemon Pledge you see mentioned in cereal threads. I too am trying to create a Pebbles more so than Loops, and hopefully once that's nailed down finding the right marshmallows/cream/meringue(Joy?) to make a profile similar to Rice Crispy treats made with Fruity Pebbles rather than Rice Crispies(easy, quick, and delicious snack, if not the death of pans. One of my favorites haha).

That is an interesting idea using lower Rings % and higher Crunch, rather than the other way around as in Tongue Fuck. Usually when making TF I keep the Crunch around 3-4%, lower the Fruit Rings to 5-6(rather than the 7 it calls for)add in a bit more of CAP Marshmallow instead of TFA, add 1 and 0.5% respectively of Whipped Cream (TFA) and Golden Butter (CAP), a bit of Meringue(between 0.5-1%, usually end up just adding 20-30 drops, I know, kill me), and finally, to help rein in that crazy lemon note, about 1% EM. Its a better than average cereal, and blind taste testing puts it above most Looper type "premiums" according to friends, but I know it can be better. I do have Flavorah Crunch Cereal, but that really only ever gets used in Wayne's Fried Ice Cream. He made an otherwise pretty crap flavor work beautifully in that recipe. Well, experimentation is the keystone of our hobby, so I'll keep at it, one of these days I'll find the perfect amount. And have forgotten to write down %s. Lol.

Also a thank you to the original creator of Tongue Fuck, I believe he's one of the major contributors around here, and his recipe is the basis off which I started cereal types. The rest of the Pebbles and Loops recipes, while pribably delicious, always required upwards of 13 or 14 ingredients, piecing together each citrus, each berry, each cream, each 'crunch' with ingredients I'd most likely never use for anything but that particular recipe or another had turned me off them for the longest time, then I stumbled upon this relatively simple, good cereal which can be tweaked in a few different directions. For that I am grateful!

Since you mentioned RY4, custard, and steeping, I wanted to throw this one out there. It hits all those notes. After a full month it is very nice. I've gotta bigger bottle cued up for next mixing session.

I prefer FW Fruity Flakes over TFA Fruit Circles and FW Fruit Rings. It still has a fairly pronounced lemon flavor but it's not as harsh as the others. I barely get any "cereal" flavor with it so it definitely needs some support in that department. My current "simple" cereal recipe (it always seems to be changing, but I've been on this revision for a while now) is:

  • 5% FW Fruity Flakes
  • 2.5% TFA Bavarian Cream
  • 1.5% TFA Hazelnut
  • 1.5% CAP Sugar Cookie
  • 1% FA Meringue
  • 0.5% Acetyl Pyrazine

Hrm I suppose I'm just going to have to try Hazelnut with my next order. It's in most cereal recipes seems like, the only thing holding me back was that I didn't see any other use for it personally besides Looper types, which I was content enough with using other flavorings to tone down Lemon Pledge™

EDIT: That is to say, your recipe looks lovely, Sugar Cookie is one of my favorite flavorings I don't use nearly enough of anymore, as is Bav Cream, and yours looks like a very interesting take on the profile

FW Hazelnut is a good one to have, comes in handy for all kinda cereal milk and strawberry milk, shoot... even tobacco flavors if you into them. FW Fruity Flakes is tasty, but it's one of those flavors like FW Yellow Cake that contains Sugar Syrup.... although it's got less of the Sugar in it then Yellow Cake (but at the same time we typically use way more Fruity Flakes than Yellow Cake in our mixes, so your overall percentage of Sugar Syrup is gonna be higher)

They are both lemon pledge city. FW is just a toned down version.
