7UP, a refreshing summer beverage
submitted about 9 years ago by mlNikon

I am pretty new at DIY (2 months) and felt that with everything I have learned from this sub that it was time to give something back.

7up

Aurora (FA) - .5%
Cactus (INW) - .5%
Champagne (TPA) - 1%
Citrus Punch (TPA) - 5%
Koolada (TPA) - .5%
Lemon Lime (CAP) - 5.5%
Lemon Sicily (FA) - 1.5%
Sour (TPA) - .4% Sweetener (TPA) - .5%

This is my first public recipe, enjoy!

A few flavor notes: Aurora - This is an odd delightful intense flavor that just pushes this recipe over the edge. Its not completely necessary but its just not the same without it.

Cactus - This flavor brings back some of the wetness that the champagne takes away.

Champagne - This is what provides the majority of the effervescent feeling of the vape, it wouldn't be 7-up without the bubbles. It does have a tendency to dry out your recipe so be careful.

Citrus Punch/Lemon Lime - This is the major flavor profile of this beverage. Citrus punch also adds a little more of that bubbly feeling.

Koolada - It wouldn't be a refreshing citrus beverage without the ice!

Lemon Sicily - This is to boost the lemon flavor of the citrus punch since it seems to be a little lime heavy

Sour - This is used to add that lip smacking tartness the pop has naturally.

Sweetener - In order to taste like the commercial sugary pop that it is it has to have some added sweetener. It definitely isn't 7up without it, its just a lemon lime drink. May need to add more to taste, I don't normally use sweetener that much so I didn't add much.

1 week steep is recommended to smooth out the harshness that comes with all the citrus.

If there is anything I can add or change to this post please let me know, thanks.

I work for 7up/Snapple. Thank you for spreading the crisp lemon lime flavor of one of our products.

At least they responsibly disclosed; I respect that more than a shoddily veiled commercial.

Mixing has sort of turned into an obsession now. If I'm not mixing, I'm reading this sub and Facebook groups lol.

I would sub EM for the Cactus if you want wetness. I can see Cactus at that ratio really overpowering the mix, flavor-wise.

Really? EM adds wetness? It doesn't seem to take over at just .5% but I'll try it with em. Same percentage?

I would stick with the cactus, personally. 🤔

Yeah, EM adds moistness and sweetness. I'm using EM at around 0.25 - 0.5 to add moisture. It also adds a sort of "caramelized" depth to the flavor mix, but it's just a background accent and doesn't overpower at all.

I'm using Cactus in a recipe at just 0.25 and that's about as high as I'll go with it, if I just want to use it as an accent (which I do for my recipe). Seeing as your recipe is gearing more towards a fresh, lemon-lime soda, I figured that at 0.5, the Cactus might be shining through too much. Maybe try 0.5 EM, and 0.25 Cactus, if you are dead-set on keeping the Cactus.

Thank you I will. I just don't want any "caramelized" notes to come through at all though.

...eccgh moist.

cactus @ 0.5% shouldn't overpower this recipe at all.

0.5% can over power a flavor for me, I prefer it at 0.25% and I can still taste it fairly strong until the five day point when it dies down

man i wonder sometimes if im the only one that tries to keep my flavorings down to less than 4-5 lol

I normally do, this is the most complex recipe I've made.

Thanks for this. I'm always on the look-out for new flavors. I've added this to my recipe list and will pick up everything I need with my next flavor order.

Awesome! Can't wait to hear what you think. Even if you hate it, I appreciate constructive criticism since I'm pretty new.

So I just got this mixed up and I will say you have a tasty lemon-lime beverage on your hands. Is it 7up? Maybe not, but it's close. Here are my S&V notes; I will try to remember to follow-up post steep.

Right away I don't get much effervescence, which is tough to achieve in e-liquid form, but the illusion is there so that's a bonus.

The flavor is good, but it is a little on the acidic side. As I was mixing I was thinking the Lemon Sicily and Lime Tahiti might not be ideal since they are on the acidic side, and tasting it seems to confirm this. This aspect may change with a steep. JF Juicy Lemon may help boost the lemon flavor without adding addtl unwanted citric acid.

I went a little heavy with the malic acid by accident (didn't have another bottle available to re-do), but citric and malic are pretty different, so I'm fairly certain I'm able to discern how the overage in malic is impacting the mix. The malic acid is a really nice touch to bring some tartness without overwhelming the mix with citric acid.

The sucralose brings the flavor more in to the realm of soda so that was a good addition, and needed. Good touch there, I'm gonna have to keep that in mind when crafting sodas.

Thank you for your feedback. This recipe does need a few days to calm down the acidity. At about a week its way more tolerable and more like 7up.

For sure, like I said it's great, just the acid was a little much right away. Can't wait to see how it mellows.

In for steep report

Well, it was mixed up 8/7 so it hasn't quite been a week yet, but, I tried it earlier today and the acidity has calmed quite a bit so I'm liking the direction it's headed.
