TheHimCatself - a half assed homage to Jack's Pineapple Smoothie
submitted about 9 years ago by matthewkocanda

Good afternoon friends,

So last night during the Beginner Blending show, I was silent for a while and part of it was because of exhaustion from my self-created problem with sleeping lately, but the other part was because of my "live-mixing" attempt at the Pineapple Smoothie liquid that Jack aka /u/TheCatHimself created. Although I guess he linked me the recipe earlier on in the evening, I had not seen it, so I just went off of what I thought would work given what I DID know about the mix. Surprisingly enough, I got hella close to his percentages. Mine just might be an alternative to Jack's for the sake that I'm sure everyone has the flavours I've used. Jack's utilized a Hangsen pineapple that might be missing in a lot of people's arsenal. Recipe, notes, and other bullshit below the break.

TheHimCatself - a bright, vibrant, creamy, and thick pineapple smoothie

  • TFA Pineapple at 3%
  • CAP Golden Pineapple at 1.5%
  • TFA Dragonfruit at 2.75%
  • FA Fuji at 1.25%
  • TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream at 2%
  • OPTIONAL - Koolada to taste if you want that smoothie cool down

Notes

TFA Pineapple, CAP Golden Pineapple, TFA Dragonfruit - obvious. These are all the pineapple flavours I have in my collection, and Jack's actual response to someone asking which pineapple flavours he used in his recipe was, "serious answer, all of them," so that's exactly what I did. The higher percentage on TFA Pineapple gives you that super tart, almost candy pineapple flavour, while the CAP Golden Pineapple helps balance that out on the back end and give a slightly more realistic and sweet accent. Finally the TFA Dragonfruit acts as the bridge between all the flavours. It adds extra tropical notes at that high of a percentage to the pineapple flavours, binds the sweetness of the VBIC to the fruits, and really pushes the brightness of the Fuji. And, like I said on the show last night, the fact that TFA Dragonfruit's flavour volatiles are so similar to that of pineapple flavours gives you an additional dimension to that aspect of the recipe.

FA Fuji - if you know me, you know that I love using this flavour in damn near everything I make. What's so tight about this flavour is that it can be almost everything, a top note, a base note, an accent, or a complement. It is versatile and such a powerful flavour to have. In here, it just adds some additional vibrancy and "bite" to the mix. 1.25% is perfect to keep it from actually adding an apple element to the recipe, all I'm noticing from it at that percentage is that it complements literally everything. It adds an extra touch of sweetness and colour to the pineapple notes, while brightening up and cutting some of that "cheesey" taste from the VBIC. Perfect addition to the recipe, in my opinion.

TFA VBIC - we all know this flavour. we all know what it does. Keep it at 2% and you have the great aspects of the flavour without the overpowering parts of it. Obviously, this is the smoothie part of the recipe. This works by itself to create the smoothie taste, but feel free to add in other flavours like Vanilla Swirl, Fresh Cream, etc to create a less linear and one dimensional smoothie aspect. You have room for more cream here with how powerful the pineapple notes are, so it'll be a little more difficult to overdo it.

Ratio and steep time - I mixed this at 70vg/30pg as usual, but I think this mix would benefit from the added creaminess and fluffiness of an 80vg/20pg blend. Try it out. As for steep time, shake and vape approved. Shit is so goddamn good right out of the gate. As with any mix using VBIC, a couple of days will help bind that creaminess to the rest of the flavours and make it a little more balanced, but the benefit is the strength of the pineapple notes will keep those at the front even after steeping.

So, that's it. A really easy summer time vape that will be sure to help cool you down in the heat. Well, maybe not literally, but metaphorically, yeah. Whatever bruh, I don't give a heck.

Also big thanks to Jack for giving me the inspiration for this recipe, and kinda unknowingly letting me post these notes on it. Let's be real, man, you ain't gonna do a write up on this mix, so it's a good thing I did. Oh, also, link YOUR version of the recipe in the comments, since I lost it again.

Anyway, cheers, keep mixing, keep fucking up, keep stealing your friends' recipes and posting them as your own, all the good shit.

Looks great! I think I am going to go ahead and take you up on your invitation to mess with the 'smoothie' aspect by adding 1% TFA Orange Cream.

Honestly, this recipe seems so versatile that you can probably add most any fruit or cream element and it'll just bring it up to a new level. Let me know how it works for ya.

It works great! Nice post, man!

EDIT: Suggested drink pairing: a light, session IPA. The pineapple fits in with the hops quite nicely and the cream finish carries through.

Will this work with Strawberry or maybe something like mango in place of the pineapple of would it complete fuck it up? This recipe sounds delicious but Pineapple seriously irritates the fuck out of my throat so I stay away from it

I just mixed this up sans pineapples and it's fantastic. I've been in a mixing funk where very little has been working out and I needed something like this.

I'll have to get the pineapples sometime soon to really complete it!

Not that yours doesn't deserve it because it does, but what or who decides what recipes go from the monthly thread to the main page? Is there criteria? Do I post on the main page or do we get an admin to move it from the recipe thread?

from the sidebar: "Recipes belong in the monthly thread, UNLESS they offer SIGNIFICANT development notes or other info that helps mixers up their game."

right but i had a recipe last month with some pretty decent notes with it too and it never got to the main page was just wondering the process for that. Is this something I should do myself and hope it doesn't get deleted? I don't want to step on any toes.

Are you posting your recipe with notes to the monthly thread or are you posting it as its own thread to the main page?
