Placid and Berries: Tweaking a recipe to my taste
submitted about 9 years ago by DrDoobie22

I have been mixing a Placid clone a lot and it is really good. However, like any other juice I vape a ton, it started to get stale on me. So I stepped away from mixing that and worked on a few custards. Then the thought came to my mind to try to tweak it and maybe add an extra layer to it. What I wound up doing was adding a berry profile to it. The recipe (I believe it was made by Fizzmustard but I am not 100% sure and I can't even find the original post/comment that I first saw it) was

TFA Honey Suckle 4%

TFA Pear 4%

TFA Strawberry Ripe 4%

FA Lime Tahity Cold Press 1%

So with that I decided to see what berries would work. I didn't want to go for a complete mixed berry profile (for me that would be Blackberry, Blueberry and Raspberry) because I didn't want it to sneak into the front. So what I settled on was Blackberry and Blueberry. I know that pears and blackberries go really well together but I had no experience working with Honeysuckle in any capacity, let alone mixing. Right now sitting on this recipe

TFA Honey Suckle 4%

TFA Pear 4%

TFA Strawberry Ripe 4%

FA Lime Tahity Cold Press 1%

TFA Blackberry 0.5%

FA Bilberry 0.5%

TFA Blueberry Wild 2%

TFA Blackberry is potent. Pretty much every blackberry flavoring I've tried is potent but TFA Blackberry has a balance of sweet and tart that I really like. Here it compliments the pear and sits on top of the berry profile.

The blueberry rounds out the berry profile. FA Bilberry is crucial for any blueberry imo and at half a percent has always done me right. I thought of using Blueberry Extra as well but decided to omit it in favor of sitting with just Blueberry Wild.

This tweaking has led to a juice that I like even more than the Placid clone as it satisfies that love of berries and gives it a bit more tartness. Thought I'd share this with you guys. Thanks.

Thanks for this... I'm gonna try it when I get home. I need to mix something other than the tweaked version of Tongue Fuck I've been doing for the past year!

Can you actually taste the Blueberry Wild at such a low percentage? Even standalone I don't think I could taste it at that percentage.

Agreed - I use around 8-9% if it's a main note, and 5-6% if I want it in the mid palate or a little further back. However, that touch of Bilberry always does seem to bring out the earthier notes in Wild that I'm looking for.

Yeah that little bit of Bilberry will take your Blueberry for a ride!

Probably not but I use it to accentuate the Bilberry as I dont want the blueberry to be prominent. The blackberry is really the flavor that compliments the other ingrediants really well.

That makes sense. I love Wild as a main note, but I have so much of it that I'm interested in the prospect of other uses for it. I like blackberry as well so I'll try that combo out for sure.

I use a similar mix of berries in my main custard vape, but typically reach for INW Raspberry over blackberries. Might have to throw that mix in in my Placid as well - always enjoyed raspberry+lime.

True. Placid is one of those juices that I feel like a berry profile really goes nicely with

I made a special bull city purchase so I can try this. Super excited, thanks for sharing

No problem! These ingrediants all have a lot of uses outside of this recipe so you wont be disappointed. TFA Honeysuckle is so interesting and tasty too.

Just made a 30ml. Hot damn, good shit dude

Also, no joke about that blackberry. Even at 0.5% I get significant notes

Yea. TFA Blackberry is no joke. I max out at 1% in my recipes. I like it so much better than FA Blackberry because it has a good balance of sweetness to tart.

Looks nice. Beig a non strawberry taster, I've always enjoyed Placid variants. FA/INW Raspberry work really well here also.

When it comes to Raspberry I usually go with TFA Raspberry Sweet but I have heard very good things about FA and INW Raspberry

Is anyone else finding the flavor muted after a day or so?

Which part is being muted or just overall? If you are shake and vaping it, the lime is really strong. The lime settles after a day so that might be the muting you are talking about which wouldnt surprise me.
