Mouthfeel

Dense, moderately heavy and creamy. The mouthfeel is very nice with this one.

Throat Hit

3/10

Flavor Properties

A complex flavor with several subtleties. Not like an american vanilla custard but more like a semi-sweet vanilla gelato flavor. I’m getting hints of lemon/citrus on both the inhale and exhale with a delightful creaminess on the exhale. There is a very subtle vanilla spice on the exhale. A slight eggy note, but not unpleasant.

Relatable Flavors

Italian custard. Semi-sweet gelato. Cream.

Off Flavors

There is a slight alcohol note.

Position In The Recipe

This flavor is a decent standalone vape, though it will really shine along with some fruit and a bit of extra sweetness. I’ve used this in recipes up to 5% and as low as 1% and it’s been solid each time. As others have posted it makes a great base for a gelato recipe but could also be used to add a bit of creamy texture. It’s got a nice inherent sweetness but isn’t as sweet as most dessert recipes I’d normally vape, which are themselves much less sweet than most commercial e-liquids.

Pairings

Fruits of all kinds, meringue, vanillas, chocolate, pastries, tobaccos.

Notes

+1 for it going great with Meringue and pretty much any fruit.

Thanks for the review! Very informative.

Any thoughts on subbing FA Custard for CAP Vanilla Custard v1? Or using them together?

I just ran out of van custard and would be interested in subbing it with some recipes (actually already did with one 30 ml bottle, we'll see how it turns out).

If you sub it for VC VI the result is going to be very different. Not necessary bad, possibly (but not likely) even better, but very, very different.

> I just ran out of van custard

This made my heart hurt. I think I'd rather watch Old Yeller or the beginning of Up than hear this.

Yup, two completely different flavors with pretty much nothing in common.

Hah, thanks for the input! Have to re-stock soon anyway, just wondering how close the FA is.

Thanks for the reviews always appreciated I believe somebody already mentioned this but it was a duplicate if you could please add your review under comments on the existing review, and just a request feel free to ignore but in the future try to pass these out I usually keep to one a day that way people actually read them.

https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/wiki/index/flavor_reviews

Check here if a flavors already been review please add your opinion to existing notes I have done this several times myself having multiple reviews in the same spot is really going to help out the wiki

Just my 2 cents but I'd rather have the wiki link to multiple reviews if there are "duplicates" than have additional reviews mixed in with the other comments. Some of the reviews don't have a lot of comments so it's not as big of a deal, but if there is an older review with a lot of comments already I don't see posting another review that's going to sit at the bottom of the page and being mostly unseen very helpful. If the general consensus here disagrees I'll play ball, most of my reviews I have to type up haven't been done yet anyway. However, going for other reviewers as well, I'd rather see their "duplicates" on the front page when they write them, and then be able to look through different reviews from the wiki with the actual review notes in the post itself for my sanity. As for "duplicates" I can see that being a problem with low effort, no additional info review reposts, but if there isn't much duplicate in the post besides the name of the flavor being reviewed I'd rather have that in its own post, regardless of the OP. I understand the intent, but due to the comments being mixed in with additional reviews I don't like this idea and think it should be more of a wiki organizational issue. /End rant.

I see your point and ultimately it's up to the mods to decide. In my personal opinion, it would be easier to scroll through a single post for opinions on a flavor, even if the most useful information is at the bottom of the page, than browse through multiple threads. And should you want to add a comment, you wouldn't have to choose a thread or feel the need to post duplicate comments to make sure they're read. Also helps reduce the spam on the front page. Just my 2c, but again, up to the mods really.

Totally. I don't really care either way. Like I said most flavors I've got to write up haven't been done yet, so it's not about karma or anything. Say there were 3 or 4 reviews of a particular flavor I'd rather tab open each and see the info I'm looking for at the top of each page in a clean uncluttered manner, then scroll through comments if I want to or ignore if they go off on tangents, but to each their own. I agree that I wouldn't want spam on the front page but I wouldn't consider thoughtful reviews of previously reviewed flavors spam, and would welcome these from anyone, but that's just me. If there was a problem with low quality duplicate reviews the mods could always just remove them after all, but due to the UI and design of reddit, both options have pros and cons and it honestly seems like a trivial issue to me at this point.

So I agree and I disagree I agree that as the author do you have the right to put it on the front page but I disagree about the organization of the wiki if we start putting up duplicates triplicates exedra it's just going to be a big cluttered mess there are already thousands of flavors up for review that being said I would be interested to hear from the other folks that have editing power over the Wiki as of right now if you want it to live in perpetuity on the wiki I would add it to the already existing fa custard review. I'm in the future if you want to add a review to the front page that's already been done and then add it to the wiki I don't think that's a bad idea. And lastly I just wanted to address your concern about it sitting at the bottom of the comment section personally if somebody takes the time to do a review and add it to one of mine I instantly uploaded most comments at Max have like 7 Up and there really aren't that many comments on most of these reviews should only take a few people looking at them and updating it before you're at the top of the comments list it may take a little time especially if you are adding a review and older review but I know personally I constantly get messages on stuff I written three or four months ago. Thanks again I'm not trying to discourage you I believe this is the most logical way to organize reviews but let's tag everyone else and see what they think.

Holy run on batman. I don't think it would be hard to have a clean list of reviews. You could just add 1, 2, 3 etc after the flavor name with each number a link to said review. As seen in many clean wikis and resource lists in general.

Sorry, /u/Chrisdvr1, I've been extremely busy with work and remodeling my house lately, plus busy summer weekend plans, so I haven't made much time to mix or contribute. I'm on board with whatever you guys decide though, as long as someone's review doesn't get hidden or buried.

I do like /u/Lambroghini 's idea of the 1, 2, 3 after just to keep it uncluttered though, and I also agree adding a review in the comments might not be seen, and isn't an option after 6 months. (reddit rules). For the most part, I think people adding 1 or 2 things in the comments rather than doing a whole extra post works out well. Unless of course, the OP totally missed something..? I don't know. I'm probably not going to do many reviews at least for the next couple weeks until things start to calm down around here. Responsibilities and commitments can be such a drag at times!

Hopefully by fall/winter I can spend more time mixing, it's just that I have a LOT of priorities right now so I barely make juice for myself lately. Luckily, I made over 1000mL a couple weeks ago so I should be good for a while.

Eh how? did you read'em?

by leapinglabratsabout 9 years ago

In the sense that they are two posts covering the same flavor, this review should be added as a comment to the first post. It's going to be a mess if we have several different threads on the exact same topic.
