Throat Hit 2/10
Flavor Properties
Moderately tart with a bitter aftertaste. Like an unsweetened cranberry juice without the body. Hints of rind and berry topnotes. A bit earthy. Tastes mostly natural but missing some elements of a full cranberry flavor.
Relatable Flavors
A tart cranberry skin or dry cranberry juice flavor.
Off Flavors
This flavor has a bit of a funky aftertaste and is very bitter at this percentage. The earthy/rind flavor might not play well with some recipes.
Position In The Recipe
This flavor seems like it would work well at a lower percentage as a cranberry topnote or to add a little tartness or bitter quality. Not a good standalone flavor and would require additional cranberry or fruit flavorings to round it out.
Pairings
Other cranberries, stone fruits, nuts, orange, citrus, vanilla, and possibly creams.
Recipes
I haven’t tried any of these but there are a few on ELR
Notes
Some have reported plasticy taste before aging and improved flavor with longer aging times. Will try this again after it has aged further. At ten days it doesn’t provide the cranberry bliss bar type of cranberry flavor I’m looking for, but it might be a nice accent to another cranberry flavor and would be good for anything that needs a little bite on the mouthfeel. If you are looking for a craisin, this isn’t it.

If you disagree, well that’s just like, your opinion man.
Cranberry is definately a strange one. I have been vaping it alot recently in a modified version of Spiders Crawl that /u/the_perrycox posted (Thank you). Works really well in that recipe. For reference here is the recipe I use atm.

Who called this one straight-up Ocean Spray? /u/elephantrainbows ?
Yeah.
/u/notcharlesmanson also gets the earthiness from it. I still haven't tested it myself, but it smells like ocean spray.
I'm going buy some and give it shot regardless, but would like to know more about what Manson got from it. I'm thinking the 5% OP tested is probably too high. /u/NotCharlesManson what % did you test this flavor? /u/Apexified, what's a good standalone % for this one?
I did 2, 3, and 4%. Stopped at 4 because it was just not good. No matter what %, I just got this weird earthy taste. Like cranberries dropped in dirt. It would be a nice addition to a berry recipe at .5-1%, but I just didn't like the flavor on its own.
Tested it @ 3% and it was tart, bitter, slightly sweet. I didn't get any earthiness. I've worked it in as an accent in a Blue Raspberry recipe and tried to make it work with FA Fuji for a Cran-Apple Juice (it basically disappeared with anything more than 1.5% Fuji)
I basically agree with the OP and assume the earthiness comes out either at higher % or after a longer steep (I let it sit for a day before testing) It's realistic but not what I was hoping for.
Give it like 10 hours and your other acct should be able to post these. Wish there was a way to give approval to accounts without making the sub private.
