Is this safe?
submitted about 9 years ago by danhufc

Some PG arrived and this label was inside the box

I've never seen this before, I tried searching on here and google but nothing really turned up. Is it safe?

Despite the fact TIL (see Manufacturing section):

> All commercial production of propylene glycol is by high pressure, high temperature, noncatalytic hydrolysis of propylene oxide (qv). A large excess of water is used in the conversion of propylene oxide to a mixture of mono-, di-, and tripropylene glycols... ...Propylene oxide is manufactured by either the chlorohydrin process or the peroxidation (coproduct) process. In the chlorohydrin process, chlorine, propylene, and water are combined to make propylene chlorohydrin, which then reacts with inorganic base to yield the oxide.

I'd still err on the side of caution and msg the retailer/reseller... It's probably a shipping requirement in that state, or it could've just been a mistake, or could be totally legit, or...

Sent them a message just before I posted this. Got a reply saying that it's 100% PG and they're not sure how the label got into the box.

Does the label that you posted a picture of actually say propylene glycol somewhere on it? Or does it just say "contains 5% chlorine"?

If not (and if it smells normal to you) I'd be inclined to believe it was a mistake. But then again I'm not a very cautious person..
