Left 24mg nicotine in a regularly hot bathroom, any possible degradation?
submitted about 9 years ago by Lollywater

Room mate leaves the heater on before and while showering. The room gets quite warm. Wondering if might have degraded the potency?

Seems like heat definitely degrades it, but too many variables in your situation to say exactly how much.

Unfortunately the guy has not excluded two very important factors, which are UV light (why blue bottles? they absorb yellow/orange light!) and air, so we don't know if heat alone degrades nicotine or if it just speeds up degradation initiated by UV light or air in the first place. Another point would be the way he excluded results. You just can't take only values if they fit to the previous ones. This makes it impossible to calculate a standard error for the measurements and it's impossible to know if the finding has statistical significance.

But the most obvious finding is that the first two values (control and 125 °F) are just apart by 0.9 % and that's clearly within the error.

Are black bottles bad to store nic in, since they also absorb heat? I bought one to store my nic in and figured black would be better than clear.

If you don't place it in the sunlight it won't get warmer than the environment. And yes, light protection is important.

you bring up good points dude, I am not sure what to say though. I can all OP can do is vape it and see if it helps his nicotine cravings.

Yes it will. Whether is was enough for you to notice is another issue. The lower concentrations tend to oxidize a little slower, so it's probably not as bad as leaving 100mg/ml in a warm room.

You don't mention for how long. If you're talking about a single incident, it will be insignificant.

A few weeks

I still honestly doubt you'll notice any difference at all. Fairly weak nic, it shouldn't get that incredibly hot in there, the heat shouldn't last for hours on end. As long as the cap was screwed on, it's probably fine.

The potency might have been slightly degraded, but with such a low concentration it's probably insignificant. If it's still usable is another question, only way to really find out is taste it and see if it's harsh.

Vaping on it now and it definitely seems usable.

24mg is the full strength of some entire e-liquids. Even if left in a hot place for a month it'll be fine. If it were a higher concentration then I'd be concerned for it. Vape away - chuck if it feels harsh.

New mixer questions belong here.

Delete this post and post your question in the proper thread that I linked.

I wouldn't call this a new mixer question. It not even the typical 'i left juice in my car all day...'

It's pretty much the DIY equivalent since heat, oxygen and light are nicotine's kryptonites. "I left my nicotine somewhere that has hot temperatures" sounds like a new mixer to me.
