I just received my 1st DIY nicotine (1 Liter) and am going to put it into 2 oz bottles. I have read here the oxygen is bad sooo I thought maybe packing 2 or 4 bottles together and totally suck the oxygen out. What do you think? I use about 1 or 2 ml a day so Thanks so much.
/u/abdada commented in a thread long ago about using a jar system with vacuum toppers, it's a viable idea. I'd say freezer for the bulk and have a working bottle in the fridge, but that's just because that's how I roll and it's worked for me.
I was under the impression leaving a bottle of NIC in the fridge was bad? Freezer only? Was I told wrong?
Fridge is for your working bottle, what you mix out of. Freezer for long-term storage. Freezer will keep fresh longer than refrigerator which will keep fresh longer than a closet which will keep fresh longer than a well lit room which will keep fresh longer than in a hot car, etc. Minimize heat, light, air contact.
I can't imagine that if the freezer is OK, and room temp is OK, that a temperature in between(fridge) is bad. Cold simply reduces the speed at which chemical reactions occur, like oxidation(the thing that makes your liquid yellow/brown).
The only limit to how cold you should go is the freezing points of the chemicals in the object. Chemicals freezing can results in separation or actual chemical reactions, which is how you get freezer burn on your chicken.
-74F or -59C is the freezing point of propylene glycol. The freezing point of vegetable glycerin is 55F...which is also why storing your nic in PG is better than in VG. Because VG will turn into a 'solid' sooner and the nicotine molecules will be more exposed to the air. Solid VG is more like a gel/paste than a solid.

Separation? Maybe, but no neccessarily. It depends on the solubility of nicotine in cooled VG. Why would it separate as long as the solubility is not exceeded? Just as an aside, I have for long term storage 1 l 86 % VG 14 % water with 3.6 % nicotine bottles in the freezer at -18 °C and it's not frozen, it's just as viscous as 99 % VG. The melting point of mixtures can be fairly different compared to pure compounds.

For 99 % VG I'd say a solid or an extremely viscous liquid can hardly be chemically attacked or react other than at the surface while a low viscous liquid can still experience gas diffusion and molecular motion.
The only possible concern I would have is....
If your Nic is concentrated enough, and you create a vacuum around the bottle, you may be creating a situation where the vapor pressure of the dissolved nic is higher than the strength of the seal on each bottle can withstand. The more diluted your nic the less of a concern this would obviously be. I just know I've had some bottles that don't create a perfect seal. I'd hate to see nic vapor escaping the bottle at a much higher than normal rate. Just a thought.
Won't there still be oxygen in the bottle?
That was my question. If the seal on the cap is good, there will still be air on the bottle. If the seal on the cap is bad, vacuum pack could suck out some fluid.
1 NO Have you ever used a food saver? .. you would know immediately if there is a problem. I'm doing this tomorrow....when sealing you know right away if there is a failure... fix that asap.. The nice thing is that I can do a "do over" without much mess.
So no there won't be oxygen left in the bottle even if the cap it tightly sealed?
Please post update tomorrow once you've tried. This is damn interesting. How much is one of those food saver doohickeys anyway? I'm assuming too much to make it applicable to anyone not in the food vacuuming business but still could be an interesting development in the whole 'how to preserve nicotine' category.
I could see that working really well. I usually keep about 15ml at a time working nic and the rest is in the freezer. I know Argon does a really good job of protecting the nic too. I'd be interested to see how it works out for you
Thanks! I don't know how Argon works, but I'm the best vacuum packer around! To be safe I'll vacuum pack bunches and put in a plastic container so if someone is reaching for hamburgers in the coffin..the nicotine won't get jostled..
Argon is an inert (super lazy and incompetent, like that one uncle everyone has) gas, so it basically just acts as like a blanket over the nicotine so oxygen can't get to it.
There's a product specifically for that, it's called Bloxygen. Here's an Amazon link, but it's available all over (it's ostensibly for preserving cans of expensive wood finish, but it's just compressed argon.) You can also find the same type of stuff at some liquor stores, usually called "Wine Preserver" or something like that. Same thing, just compressed argon in a can.

No you put the nic in the Amber bottle close the top then put into a food saver bag...vacuum and seal
what kind of containers are you going to use for the nic? dont they make vacuum sealing jars?

In one of his posts, a reputable chemist on ECF mentions that vacuum packing bottles is beneficial but only in case of a breakage/leakage.
In case of oxidising, over time oxygen will leak through the plastic. That's you should use glass for long term storage vs LDPE/HDPE bottles (especially LDPE).
