TFA Pancake - quick tasting notes
submitted about 9 years ago by Tabboo

Picked this up on a recent TFA order.

Color: Black. Black as night. At first I thought I had gotten the wrong thing, or a concentrate. This is the darkest flavoring I have ever worked with.

Used @ 4% Griffin .22ohm, 50-65 watts.

4% was just a guess, but it wasn't a bad guess. Pretty good for a single flavor tester. Primary flavor is "cakey", with a maple syrup finish.
It is sweet, but not overly sweet like you'd expect. On a 1-10 scale I'd say it's a 5. The most notable thing about this flavor, IMO is along with cake, there's this weird uncooked pancake batter flavor that is present through out. Not bad, or good, just unexpected. This flavor could be used to help round out certain dessert or bakery flavors in you don't mind the syrup. I haven't tested it in conjunction at lower percentages but could add that doughy-batter flavor to a fritter. Maybe. But that damn syrup is there.

I just saw this flavor on their site yesterday. I had to get it as I love the breakfast stuff. I don't mind the maple so that's not a deal breaker. (I may add more). I'm looking forward to this, some Capella Butter and some fruit flavors to round it out. I can't see it as a single flavor, but as a base, I'm all for it!

Well, it came in today and I think I'm going to have to make something before I judge it. It just smells like a strange Maple Syrup flavor. And as OP says... it is black liquid! I'll play with it Monday when I get in but I think I'll stay with TPA Waffles or Real Flavors breakfast flavors for now.

But.... if you are feeling the urge, it IS in stock. :) I do need to sell it to someone so it doesn't just sit on the shelf. LOL

Just whipped up a batch with it and this review is spot on. That pancakey batter flavor is throwing me off a little. I tried rounding it off with some Bavarian Cream with very moderate results.

Very interesting! I think it'd be great if we could find one that's like just batter or pancake without the maple. I think the only thing similar I've come across so far is INW Waffle since it's just waffle, no maple. Those profiles haven't exactly been at the top of my priority list though lol.

Exactly. I think this could be of real benefit in a lot of recipes w/out the maple, but with the maple it will be pretty limited.

CAP Waffle definitely has a maple taste to it as well, you're right, it limits it a lot.
