Setup: Plume Veil RDA; dual parallel @ .40Ω; cotton wicks; 50W
Testing: CAP NY Cheesecake @ 4%; Aged: 16 days
Flavor description: Thick, wet, creamy, sugary cream cheese taste, but not overly cheesy at 4%. Also has subtle notes of vanilla and butter.
Off-flavors: Some people reported gym socks, cardboard, or stinky cheese. I do not personally taste any of this at 4%, may be possible to obtain these tastes at higher percentages.
Throat hit: 3/10 fairly smooth
Uses: Part of a cream base, the obvious cheesecake recipe, desserts. Great "thickener".
Pairings: Graham cracker, other creams, preferred fruits, custards, cinnamon, and mostly any vanilla flavoring.
Notes: This flavor may require some time (2-3 weeks) to age before it reaches full potential. I consider it to be a fairly versatile flavoring as it easily plays into many different recipes.
IMO this flavoring is the only cheesecake you need. TFA CCwGC doesn't even come close to the authenticity of this flavoring. Actually in any situation where you'd use TFA CCwGC I'd first use this.
I love this flavoring. I've used as high as 6% with CAP sweet cream at 2% and had no dirty sock taste. It needs a good amount of help to make a true cheesecake, but this is my favorite. Great write up!
First mix I made with this was on of the top rated on ELR. Some beard vape or something that said use it at 10%.
No idea how it was rated so high, it was really smelly. The foot/sock description couldn't be more accurate. I generally go for about 5% now and it seems perfect!
This is one of my favorite "blank canvas" flavors to work with. That being said, it has been one of the more inconsistent flavors I've used. I've had 3 different batches (2 from WL, 1 from Gremlin) of CAP NY Cheesecake. Each one has had a different threshold for that "sweaty socks" taste.
I've found a few things that help me work around that if I need to use NYCC at higher percentages or adapt a recipe to a new batch of flavoring:
Pair with CAP Sweet Cream to thin out the flavor slightly and up the threshold where it develops off flavors.
TFA Marshmallow has the same effect on off flavors without cutting the thickness but it will add some sweetness and round out/mute some of the dairy components.
If you want to use it a lower percentages but need to up the dairy/cheeseyness, FA Fresh Cream at low percentages can bring out those dairy aspects of the flavor without adding to the off flavors. Careful though, Fresh Cream will make the off flavors worse if either the Cheesecake or the Fresh Cream is too high.
Similarly, FLV Greek Yogurt (a few drops) will also up the dairy and "tang" of the cheesecake, helping you keep it at lower percentages.
