Setup: single coil kanthal (0.25) with cotton wick; 35 watts
CAP Gingerbread @4%; 30/70 PG/VG; 3mg Nic; steeped 2 days
Flavor: Sweet, not spicy, ginger. Not a gingerbread as in your holiday gingerbread men or ginger snaps. Instead, it tastes more like a ginger candy with a slight flour note or like the gingerbread syrup flavoring put in lattes and the like. More than anything, the flavor reminds me of some Japanese ginger snacks I picked up at an Asian market once, similar to these.
Off flavors: Syrupy. Nothing offensive, just not the dark, spicy, molassesy, bready gingerbread man one might expect.
Throat hit: Noticeable but not terrible, maybe 4/10.
Pairings: Bought it to infuse ginger flavor into poached pear recipe, so pear and apple were the first things that came to mind. Followed quickly by stone fruits. Goodness this would go well with peach, I think, like in a peach pie. Also citrus, berries, tropical fruit, brown sugar, creams, custards, teas. Bakery type flavors, of course. And other spices like cinnamon, anise, nutmeg, and cardamom, too.
Avoid: ??? Nothing comes to mind except flavors I would avoid regardless, like that godawful FA Pineapple. If someone has any suggested contraindications with CAP Gingerbread, please share.
This is one I made for christmas. Delicious stuff: Gingerbread House:
CAP Gingerbread 8%
FA Marshmallow 2%
TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream 1%
FA Joy 0.75%
CAP Sugar Cookie 2%
TFA Sweetner 0.5
Thank you! I actually just followed the orange envelope from your post because I was looking for something else to do with this Gingerbread, and I've already saved your recipe to make later. I think I'm going to make it without the sweetener, though. Maybe replace with sweetener with the same amount of TFA Brown Sugar.
No worries. I made enough to last me through Christmas, but it didn't last :) I left it steep for about a week first to bring out the notes in the marshmallow and vbic. These made sort of the icing bits on the house. Didn't think of using brown sugar at the time, but I think it would go well to add more depth/body. I find Brown sugar can be quite overpowering sometimes though. I used it @ 1.5% in an apple cinnamon danish recipe and it took a good 2 weeks to mellow out to my liking.
I'm sure you probably found it in a search already but the recipe I found on here and enjoyed was as follows (I rarely post and am on mobile, if someone wants to fix my formatting or PM me a how-to for the future it'd be much appreciated)
CAP Gingerbread 6% CAP Sugar Cookie 3% FA Caramel 2% TFA Brown Sugar Extra 1% FLV Vanilla Custard 1% FA Cookie 1% INW Biscuit 0.5%
The recipe called for 1.5% EM, but I found with the flavors used it was plenty sweet. Next time I make it I will most likely drop the brown sugar, and the gingerbread. I too, get a dry taste from the gingerbread at this percent (not the regular sugar cookie though).
Did you really mix this at 70 PG?
Nice review. This sounds like a rather interesting flavor.
The dark brown gingerbread cookie on the bottle is a lie, but it's a nice flavor. It tastes quite a bit like CAP Sugar Cookie with some of the cookie-ness taken out and replaced with ginger.
My first thought was how well it would pair with that or maybe FA Cookie.
I imagine CAP Gingerbread + FA Cookie would get you halfway to a legitimate gingerbread man. For the other half, you'd probably want to add TFA Brown Sugar + CAP CDS or FW Cinnamon Roll + a very small amount (we're talking making dilutions here) of TFA Holiday Spice, FA Clove, or LA Pumpkin. LA CCI + TFA VBIC for some icing, if desired.
If I wanted to recreate those Japanese ginger snacks, I'd go with CAP Sugar Cookie, CAP Gingerbread, and FA Joy.
The only problem I have with CA gingerbread is that it just gets so dry tasting when I vape it on low ohm RDA's.
What do you consider low ohm? Lower than 0.25?
He is probably talking about higher power. I've found this myself, at higher wattages this is quite dry and harsh to me.
