Watermelon Crack Clone v. Final Version
submitted about 9 years ago by VurveVurve with the Swurve

It's about time I posted this up. After quite a few iterations and a lot of playing around with different marshmallows, I've found what is quite possibly the closest version to the original watermelon crack.

#Watermelon Crack Clone

Watermelon Crack Clone|% ---|--- Watermelon LA|9.5 Jungle Juice FW|4.5 Hard Candy FW|3 Watermelon FW|1.5 Marshmallow TFA|1.25 Cool Mint CAP|0.25

  • Watermelon LA - The background to the recipe. A nice candied watermelon that tastes a lot like a jolly rancher. It's found in a very abundant amount, and I don't think I have to justify this one if you've tasted it before. Not to mention, BX himself practically admits he uses it in large amounts when he posted a V.1 of this recipe ages ago.

  • Jungle Juice FW - This is where all the menthol comes from in the recipe. It has a nice musky candied taste. 5% is also just about perfect for the menthol flavor and the background flavors in the recipe.

  • Hard Candy FW - Helps to reinforce the jolly rancher flavor in this recipe. It's more of a grape jolly rancher though. And it really sticks around in the recipe after a long cure too. This is would made me decide to continue lowering the percentage on this flavor. The grape is definitely there in the original, but not very forward. It should not be competing with the watermelon.

  • Watermelon FW - This is also somewhat of a candied watermelon, but still has some earthy naturalness to it this brings a lot more backbone to it than Watermelon LA. 2% is a bit too forward and earthy; the watermelon flavor needed to be a bit smoother. At 1%, it's too smooth and I'm not getting enough of that full candied flavor. 1.5% is jjjuuuuuussssssttt right.

  • Marshmallow FW - ~~Ok, so I now own every single marshmallow flavor, except for FLV's that recently got released, and obviously couldn't be in this recipe. It's hard to describe the differences between them as they all just about taste the same, but I ultimately landed on FW. It just fit. It did the best job of fluffing up the watermelons without adding any additional cream flavors. It's probably the most neutral of the marshmallow flavors. Ultimately, I still feel like this choice could be wrong because all the marshmallow flavors are so damn similar, add this easily interchangeable if you need to sub one. The only ones I wouldn't recommend are CAP marshmallow, or either of the toasted marshmallows.~~

Edit: ok, I ordered a fresh bottle of watermelon crack, and the marshmallow is definitely TFA. My old bottle was quite dated and lacked flavor. I think this is the main reason I liked v.2 better. The TFA marshmallow just does magical things to the watermelon flavor that FW does not.

  • Cool Mint CAP - I was fairly convinced there was only a drop or two of this per 30ml, but this is providing that natural sweetness to the watermelon. Up to about 0.25% seemed perfect for the amount of sweetness versus the amount of mint in the original juice.

#Curing

This juice needs to cure for about 1 week to let the watermelon smooth out and to let the marshmallow develop.

#Conclusion

So guys, this is my final version. I plan on retiring this recipe and calling it complete at about a 98% clone. Perhaps I will revisit this recipe further down the road when I get bored and have nothing else to work on.

If you are a fan of the original Watermelon Crack by B-X Vapor, mix this up and tell me how it turned out. If you follow me on ATF, you can stay up to date on the other clones I'm working on, which include Ahlusion Boba Tea Coconut, Kilo Dewberry Cream, and B-X Vapor Horchatatas.

If you want to try All The Flavors but are afraid of paying for it, send me a private message and I will give you a code for a free month!

Have you tried INW Cool Mint in any of your attempts? I know Bleux is a big fan of Inawera in general, and that's a damn unique flavor. Sweet, Minty, Cool, with a hint of Isoamyl acetate.

He may be a fan, but it's nearly impossible to land a wholesale account for INW AND get the orders on any sort of schedule.

That is something I haven't tried yet. It escaped my last order as I am very aware Bleux is a fan of INW. It's hard to miss it when you look at this recipe descriptions.

Perhaps later on down the road, I'll do some ninja edits to this recipe after I feel it's close to 100%.

Have you seen the pictures of his mixing station that he posted while developing his recipes? I've used them to pinpoint what to order whilst trying to figure out HSMC. It could be helpful to you while you try to clone Horchatatas.

I have not!!!

Do you have a link to it?

Thank you so much for doing this one. Watermelon Crack was my ADV and I was spending so much on it that it pushed me over to DIY. It looks like I have a couple flavors to pick up here, but I shall be providing feedback for sure.

Gladly!

It's not a 100% clone, but I got a lot of great feedback on my V.2 version. I personally prefer the V.2 as well, but I think this version is much closer to the original juice.

Curious what about the v2 that makes you enjoy it more?

Curious, have you made/tried it yet?

Sadly no, but once I get the flavors in that I am missing I will be reviewing here and on ATF.

So I can say from trying FLV's Marshmallow....it's very good, but it works in much the same way as every other marshmallow. It adds sweetness, but it's by no means a "marshmallow" flavor. BUT, it's heavier on the Jet-Puffed side of the spectrum; very sweet. Highly recommended (especially since you own all the other marshies....gotta catch 'em all right?)

This sounds like something I need to buy! Adding it to my next order.

Looks like it's time to start ATF-stalking you for Kilo Dewberry Cream.

Hey Vurve, big fan of the podcast, quick question. I am not a huge fan of Mint in vaping at all, do you think Koolada will give the same sensation with out the flavor, or do you believe the Cool mint is necessary to round out the flavor.

by Vurveabout 9 years agoVurve with the Swurve

Glad to have you as a listener!

I know it seems weird, but most of the sweetness in this recipe comes from the mint. The mint really does just blend in with the menthol though. So if you don't like menthol or mint, then you're going to have a hard time making this recipe work for you.

If you still want to try it out nonetheless, try this:

Watermelon Crack Clone Sans Menthol|% ---|--- Watermelon LA|9 Koolada TFA|3 Hard Candy FW|3 Watermelon FW|1.5 Marshmallow FW|1.25

The podcast is BeginnerBlending. Monday nights at around 9:00pm EST on www.mixlr.com/inthemix-podcast

Alternatively, you can just search for "InTheMix-Podcast" on iTunes in the podcast section. All the old episodes should be free I believe.

I just ordered everything for captaincannibal's shurb clone and Wayne's PRY4U on Monday. If this got posted sooner you would have made me over budget on my order.

I can't wait to try this in a month or two though!

I just hope you're satisfied with the end product! A lot of money and menthol went into this process 😃

Kind of late to the post, but I am in the process of trying to clone Luscious by VGOD.

You seem to be pretty knowledgeable with watermelon by this point, so I figured I'd ask what your process was for narrowing down flavors. Do you just buy every watermelon flavor and go from there?

I still feel like I'm missing some watermelon flavor, as I am 99% sure it is a mix of LA watermelon and some other "realistic" watermelon..

I assume you've tried TFA Marshmallow? pretty sure that's what he uses...

by Vurveabout 9 years agoVurve with the Swurve

As I mentioned to someone else, I may revisit this combination. I did really like the mixes it contained, but the differences between FW and TFA are fairly minimal at best.

IMO watermelon candy is cloying as hell. Maybe not so much at super low percentages however I've never tried. I really want it to work, I really do. The regular watermelon has a similar taste, though not as annoying..to me anyway..lol. Vurve is right though, LA is a dead on watermelon jolly rancher. CAP sweet watermelon is very similar. Can't wait to mix this up though thanks vurve!!

What vg/pg ratio do you suggest with this recipe?

1 points

by Vurveabout 9 years agoVurve with the Swurve

Sorry, I missed this question when you posted it. I would do somewhere between 80-70% VG.

/u/Vurve just got in my LA watermelon and mixed it up. So far so good! Did you use the colorless watermelon? I thought I ordered that one but the bright pink one showed up haha. Keep up the great work man

1 points

by Vurveabout 9 years agoVurve with the Swurve

Yup! I got the colorless, but LA has fallen off the vape bandwagon and no longer produces it.

1 points

by splooshnushabout 9 years ago

No wonder I can't find it anywhere! The juice is great regardless but the red dye in the watermelon makes me alittle nervous

1 points

by Vurveabout 9 years agoVurve with the Swurve

I ordered 4oz from Bull City Flavor(Vapor) about 2-3 weeks ago. They still had the uncolored, so give them a try if you are concerned. I certainly wouldn't vape the food dye.

I'm working on a replacement for the LA Watermelon (colorless), but it's still a work in progress.

by splooshnushabout 9 years ago

I just ordered a 120 from bull city thanks for the heads up. Can't wait for a version without the LA. I remember you and the cohosts talking about commissioning a clone request? How do I go about that? I've been trying to clone grimmgreen's glacier banana for a few months but have had very little luck

Just trying this now after 1 week steep (70/30). Hot damn, you're the man. You're spot on with the 98%. I just feel there is still a final menthol component missing (who would have thought). I'm going to try it with a bit more JJ, and maybe another batch with Koolada if I happen to get some. Thanks man!

TL;DR: Inawera Mix Mint is really good with this as a replacement for Jungle Juice.

I forgot to order Jungle Juice apparently and after making about 120mls of this stuff, I wondered why it tasted kinda odd... I never had the original BX Watermelon Crack, but from what I read about Jungle Juice... I decided to add a strong sweet menthol/mint. Inawera Mix Mint smoothed this juice out a lot, it was sorta harsh for the past 30ml I been vaping it.

I want to vape the original recipe as it was meant to though and apparently Flavor West is only 30 mins away, located right behind my parent's house. So I am going to swing by and pick up a 120ml of it on Monday.

That reminds me.

Been meaning to test with recipe with INW Natural Mint in place of CAP Cool Mint.

Thank you!

Here is what I came up with over the weekend in my attempt to clone Moon Mountain's Vapor Trails (a candied menthol watermelon).

It's a little less on the ingredients, although I may play around with adding some marshmallow next time. It's pretty good as is, but it can definitely be tweaked some.

TPA - Watermelon (pink): 10%

TPA - Apple Candy: 2%

TPA - 10% Menthol 3%

Pretty good as a shake and vape. But after 2 days all the flavors start to congeal and the overall flavor is better.

Well hell! Where did the top part go that said this sounded like a great mix to try? Shit...

I had meant the post to say that and instead of just saying that I have been working on my own I figured it would be good to share the recipe for notes, comparison, whatever. Oh well.
