The Recipe
I've been working on this one for a couple of months in preparation of summer. I wanted to make a good watermelon vape and this is about as close to perfect as I've gotten. Without further ado here's jonny
- 6% - Watermelon (Colorless) (LA)
- 3% - Coconut (TFA)
- 1% - Raspberry V2 (CAP)
- 2.5% - Marshmallow (TFA)
I mix this one at max VG so depending on what nic you use you may have a different pg/vg ratio. This tends to be a little harsh as a shake and vape but after an overnight steep it mellows out.
Notes
Watermelon (LA) - I started out this recipe using TFA's watermelon but it lacks the candy watermelon I was after. It was almost a sour watermelon whereas LA's is like a watermelon jolly rancher. At 6% it's at the forefront of the mix, any more and it takes over everything else, any less it's a little bland.
Coconut (TFA) - I've always been a fan of TFA's coconut, not too sweet and not too chalky. Granted I haven't tried some other coconuts so there could be a better one out there. I don't use their coconut extra as it's too easy to add to much to a blend and have it end up tasting like suntan lotion. Also at this percentage it sits nicely in the mix, sort of a background note. When you first have this juice you'll notice it but after vaping it for a couple of weeks i can't point it out in the mix anymore.
Raspberry V2 (CAP) - These next two flavors are helpers to the main ingredients. Capella's raspberry i had lying around from "deputy" by bombies. At 1% it adds a light berry to the watermelon to really round it out. I did try this at a higher percentage but it ended up taking over the mix.
Marshmallow (TFA) - I've really liked adding marshmallow to any of my coconut recipes and TFA's is light enough at this percentage to serve my purposes. At 2.5 it keeps the coconut from turning the mix into suntan lotion and also gives a little more sweetness to the mix.
Let me know if you decide to mix this up, I'd love some feedback. Sorry for my shitty notes but it's the best I can do, probably not all that helpful but it may give you an idea why I decided to put these together. Happy 4th, 'Murica.
Quick question (slightly unrelated to your recipe), what did Raspberry v2 by CAP remove that the original had that was "bad to vape" so to say? I don't remember it being a warning flavor, definitely not choked full of Diacetyl. I ask for general knowledge and because I've ran across a few recipes lastly that call for Raspberry v2, and I only own version 1 of it. Wondering if the v1 would be a perfect substitute, or if v2 tastes better as well as the removal of some less than safe compounds?
It should be ok, I have both and from what I can vaguely remember v1 was more "sour" than v2. Almost like a raspberry Snapple taste where v2 is more of a candied raspberry. Give it a shot and let me know how it turns out! I don't think there's really anything "bad to vape" in v1, just think they went for a different type of raspberry in the v2
V2 Capella raspberry is acetyl propionyl and acetoin free.
ahh, okay... thanks man. So acetyl propionyl & acetoin aren't Diacetyl, but sit in the Diketone family because they can turn into Diacetyl in particular situations?
Sorry to the OP; didn't mean to turn this into a Diacetyl talk, but was just curious about it. You tend to think of Diacetyl\Diketones typically sitting in buttery or creamy flavors.... not a raspberry fruit flavor.
I can see how Watermelon coconut and marshmallow can work together here, good stuff! Any substitute or Raspberry V2 CAP and if so at what %s? I have never worked with any raspberry before so I have no clue :(
