Marshmallow [FLV]
submitted about 9 years ago by skiddlzninjaThat one moderator. You know, the honey guy.

Setup

RDA/ Goon Coil/ 6 Wrap Single UD premade clapton W/ 60 Wicking/ Full Cotton, Cotton Bacon v2 Ω/0.79

Testing

Steep Time/none % Used/ 4
PG/VG maxVG Nic%/0

Mouth Feel

Soft, dense. Very "pillowy."

Throat Hit 1/10

Flavor Properties

More like marshmallow filling than actual marshmallow. Sweet, almost a light floral vanilla. Very hard to describe, besides that all the flavors are mellow and subdued.

Relatable Flavors

FA Marshmallow at a very low percentage, a single drop of INW vanilla shisha in 10mL with EM on top.

Off Flavors

This flavor isn't strong enough to cover the flavor of VG. May dump half and mix 50/50 and edit this thread.

Position In The Recipe

Smooth out rough edges. I can't think of any complete recipe that could benefit from this. It could definitely help some unfinished recipes reach completion.

Pairings

Pastries, creams, banana, peach, apple, pear, perhaps some bold tobaccos.

Notes

This is a pre-release sample.

Rating B+, they achieved what they were going for, but not entirely.

Please if your opinion differs, or you have another review for this post it in the comments. Will help the master list with multiple reviews in one spot.

Very interesting. Testing at 3% I found this one to be more along the lines of an actual marshmallow than any of the other ones I've tasted to date. It's got that sort of dryness you'd expect from plopping a marshmallow in to your mouth, which I find interesting. Banana sounds like an awesome pairing, hadn't even thought about banana + marshmallow!

I subbed out TFA in a mix and I will say the outcome was quite different(not better, not worse, just different), I still want to test it more now that it's steeped.

Yeah, it's definitely closer than others to a marshmallow, but that's not exactly saying much :/

This definitely has a place in my toolbox for thickening and sweetening recipes, though.

Just now trying it for the first time. Reminds me of the night when some of my friends thought it would be fun to see who could stuff the most jumbo marshmallows into our faces at once. It's very much more of a marshmallow than the others. I'm going to have some fun with this one.

I have a little sample at home and from the bottle it smells so good and right, like burying your face in a bag of Jet-Puffed, I but haven't had a chance to mix it and taste it yet. Sounds like it doesn't taste as wonderful as it smells.

If you were going for a recipe that actually tastes like marshmallows, say a juice that tastes like a handful of these shoved in your mouth, would FA's marshmallow be your first choice?

Hmmmm, that's difficult. FA's is like FLV because they're both sweet, I would use them to sweeten and thicken a pastry or cream. CAP is more of a cereal marshmallow, like FA meringue. TFA's is just, TFA's. I'd do maybe some FLV with TFA toasted marshmallow(a hint) and some FA. Then maybe a drop or less of an anise flavor to get the mallow root in it.

I've been waiting awhile for FLV before trying make those fruity little mallows, and from the smell I thought it would nail the marshmallow part, but apparently not. Obviously we don't know exactly how it interacts with other flavors yet, but something like this, as a starting place?

  • FLV Marshmallow 2%
  • FA Marshmallow 3%
  • TFA Toasted Marshmallow 0.25 - 0.5%
  • CAP Anise 1 drop per 15ml
  • TFA Strawberry Ripe 2%
  • FA Lime Cold Pressed 0.5%
  • FA Orange 0.25%
  • FA Mandarin 0.25%
  • FA Lemon Sicily 0.5%

Edit: plus maybe a little meringue to get that powdery feel that mass-produced marshmallows have, cornstarch or whatever it is that keeps them from melding together in the bag?

I'd use sweet straw instead.

Is FLV giving out free samples of these pre-release flavors?

Nice review!Got mine yesterday. Would you say 4% is the sweet spot?

Who else got Rainier Cherry? I didn't know it existed until I opened the box.

Rainier cherry is TFA quince. That's all I taste from it.

Vaping it now.

I really want to like it. But there's just something off. I'm getting a cherry right up front, but the back notes are leaving me confused.

I never did a single flavor test with quince. I've only used it in your nana' cream. But, yes. Now that you pointed it out, I'm totally picking that up

I was also looking to review this cause as of my smell test two days ago I was really excited. It wasn't until I read your review that it hit me. It really is like the filling, it's very "jet-puffed" as the description says, with a tad more vanilla than others I've tried. Definitely reminiscent of fluff or marshmallow paste. I see this working in a ton of different recipes, but then again it really hasn't had more than 2 days to steep, and the little insert that came with the flavors says it needs a good 7-14 days steep (IIRC)

Is there any difference between dx marshmallow and marshmallow?

4 points

by skiddlzninjaabout 9 years agoThat one moderator. You know, the honey guy.

DX contains no diketones, so it will be tangier and less full flavored. Think of it as soy sauce vs low sodium soy sauce. Or sugar free mints vs regular mints.

Perfect analogy, thank you.

I tested this at 2%. To me it's closer to marshmallow fluff (delicious) than the real jet-puffed guys. However Flavorah did say it's a flavor that would benefit from a decent steep so we shall see.

Question not pertaining to the review: How do you like the Goon? I have a black one on the way from Eciggity. Got lucky and snagged it during their 4th sale.

I love it. I really liked the airflow on the early atties, like the tobh, and this is just a simple direct airflow.

Awesome, thanks. Pretty excited to get mine Tuesday.

Anyone tried it steeped yet, and if so did the flavor mouth feel change at all?
