Setup: Velocity mini clone; dual Claptons @ .30Ω; Full cotton wicks; 65 W.
Testing: TPA Mango @ 10%; Aged: None - Two Weeks.
Flavor Description: Starts off as a not very juicy mango, more like the meat or pulp. Becomes similar to a mango puree after a week steep, more of a soft/mellow mango flavor as compared to the brightness/juiciness of a ripe mango. After two weeks it tastes much closer to a ripe and juicy mango but it still has a bit of that 'puree' element to it, with a dash of brightness that makes it more fresh fruit like.
Off-flavors: Starts off tasting like a mango puree or artificial juice, mostly fades out by two weeks.
Throat hit: Most noticeable at the end, I give it 4 or 5 out of 10. I may have have over-nic'd it (oops).
Uses: Good in a tropical mix, or could do well as a base in a melon vape because of that thicker 'puree' quality.
Pairings: Tropical fruits, other melons, maybe creams.
Notes: So far I've been most successful using it in a Monster Melon's clone, and it does a very nice of providing a mango flavor throughout the entire vape. Doubtful of if it would make a good main note though, the profile just isn't right for it. It would need to be more bold or bright.
Rating: 7/10.
First time that I'm making my own flavor notes post, please let me know if there are any areas that need improvement- i.e. more or less details in a specific section.
Imagine something vaguely resembling a mango sat on a shelf collecting dust, not decomposing, just collecting dust. And then you decided to eat it without dusting it off. Welcome to TFA Mango.
Mango is supposed to be juicy. This is not juicy; it's practically desiccated. Mango is supposed to have bright and sharp notes; where are they? Not here. This flavor has that tropical earthiness that you expect from a mango, but that's about all it has going for it. With help from another mango flavor or two, it can be useful. By itself? No. This is not the mango you're looking for.
Yeah, I have to agree. It works well in the monster melons recipe mentioned, but that's because TFA cantaloupe and papaya are there to help it out- the cantaloupe in particular I find brings the bright and sharp notes necessary to make the mango more realistic.
I remember someone mentioning the idea of mixing it with cantaloupe to make it better - it might have been you. I've been meaning to get around trying that. But at the moment I'm obsessed with SC Mango and I have an unopened bottle of FLV Mango I'm cautiously excited to try, so trying to make TFA Mango to actually taste like a mango stays on the back burner.
Which Monster Melon's clone recipe are you using, though, for future reference?
I want to try FLV Mango after /u/kirkt 's flavor review of it. The monster melons recipe I use is -
TPA Mango - 5%
TPA Papaya - 5%
TPA Cantaloupe - 5%
TPA Marshmallow - 2%
Really simple and really yummy - I do love me some melon flavors though, so I may be biased. I've made it with and without marshmallow and adding it makes the vape sweeter, heavier, and blends the flavors together very well. Mango and papaya make the 'meat' or pulp of a tropical melon, and cantaloupe adds the juiciness, brightness, and sharp notes that make it a more life like fruit.
It's a great flavour to disappoint a new mixer who's trying mango, imo. It needs CAP's Sweet Mango and a little FA Mango as a base to be good.
Ha, yeah, I think it might be causing some people to say they don't like mango vapes.
Agreed, TFA and CAP Sweet Mangoes are better together than they are separately, and both of them are better, individually and together, with the addition of a little something like FA or INW (both problematic for other reasons on their own) to give them some high notes they lack.
I've been experimenting with other fruits to bring out certain notes of my mango mixes. Dragonfruit didn't seem to help, nor did any citrus flavors. My favorite so far has been apricot. It's a close comparison to mango, and helps bring out some brighter top notes. It's not perfect but does add something that's lacking in most mangoes. I haven't tried melons yet, but I'm open to anything at this point. I'm looking forward to trying FLV's when it finally gets released, but not getting my hopes too high.
Just a thought, do flavor testing with no nic.
I've considered doing this (I know chrisdvr1 does it that way) but I know that nicotine effects the final flavor of the liquid for me and would prefer to know what the flavors taste like with 3mg nicotine, so that I'm not surprised by harshness when I add it in.
Of course when doing 5ml single flavor tests a single drop over of nicotine can mess it up noticeably, so perhaps I should reconsider...
I made a mango TFA juice too and it was decent after 3 day steep, but it started turning worse as it aged. The sweetness died off and it was a very mild mango flavor without much sweetness. I think that was mostly due to my 50/50 mix. I believe this flavor needs more VG to bring out a little more sweetness.
